Planting Jackfruit Seeds Right in the Ground

  • Jackfruit trees don't like to be transplanted - so we're going to grow them right in place. Jackfruit seeds won't germinate if they dry up and though it's still the rainy season, I have a fruit with seeds in it and don't know when I'll find another one. Time to plant! We'll keep these seeds watered and they should germinate in a month or less.

That is my favorite shovel of all time . In my little circle of insane gardeners we call it a poaching shovel. Not sure if its the real name of the shovel , but its also great for poaching slivers of other peoples plants with very little disturbance . Not saying I know this first hand , but its a all around groovy shovel. Good luck on the trees.

This one (yellow) is a riped jackfruit and is eaten as a fruit. When it is unripe (white interior) it is used as a vegetable here in India. I like to eat it as fruit, it's so good.

No place like home! Really cool with the jackfruit seeds. My wife and I are going to Puna come April to check our land and relax...When cutting down the junk trees on the lot, after seeing you do that with the jackfruit seed, that’s what I might do...3 to 4 years to fruit....hmmm perfect timing when we move. Thank you😃🌈🤙

I'm jealous you have worms where you are. I'm eagerly waiting for my first worm (not grub. We have plenty of those) that's not in my bins.
I've planted multiple jackfruit from transplant and they bounced back rather quickly with some protection from the blistering sun.

where did i plant the one plant?

Dylan : yeah that happens to me. After some time the place you dug and planted the seeds becomes totally camouflaged with the soil and i wonder did i plant my seed here or over there. Hmmm. It wud be great if i can identify the plant when the seed grows into one.

How fast can a Jackfruit tree grow in that climate? I'm in Lakeland FL which is 9b, and this month (March) my Jackfruit from seed is exactly two years old and 15 feet tall. It doesn't do much in the winter but I thought this was pretty fast for being nearly dormant 3 months out of the year. This is recorded in my videos I have on youtube. I built a shower over it this year to freeze protect it but we didn't get any freezes so I didn't get to experiment with that.

Hey so it’s been 5 months since you uploaded this video. So can you do an update video on how the jack fruits are doing so far. I too have recently (a month ago and a week ago) have planted seeds of jack fruit on their different stages ( some directly from the fruit, some from 1 week doing the paper towel rooting the seeds, and some after having almost 3 inches of roots from the seeds.) so i was wondering how yours are faring compared to mine and how would they eventually grow up to. Also, if u have any new videos that have glimpses of that jack fruit, i wud love to watch that too. Thanks in advance

I've had a can on my pantry shelf for 8 months whose label says "Green Jackfruit in Brine". It's still there because I've been terrified of what might crawl out if I open it. Can anyone tell me how fresh jackfruit tastes, and what to expect from the can?

Mate, get yourself a crowbar and a long-handled post-hole spade... use the crowbar to break up the ground and then shovelling will be soooo much easier for you without bending your back. Trust me I hand-dug over a hundred postholes and holes for large trees in no time using this method.
