    I enjoy watching your videos, your farm reminds me of some of the farms here in Jamaica. We also have all those fruit trees here. I have some of those in my backyard too. We use the leaves from the soursop tree to make tea. It helps to settle/calm your nerves if you cant sleep at nights.

    I bought some Champagne mangoes the other day at a roadside stand after eating them I want to try to get the seed to root so I can throw it in my food forest here in Jax, Fl.

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  Před 8 lety

      Marvelous! Probably a good idea to plant them all so you can hopefully get something similar despite the genetic variation. If they're polyembryonic, they should produce true to type, though. You can tell by opening the pits and seeing if there are multiple seed sections inside. You'll get a few trees from each seed, sometimes. I love mangoes. Good luck!

    I was so impressed with your jungle ninja machete throwing skills until the end of the video. I love this stuff. Yesterday I ordered the Meadow Creature broad fork. I can't wait for it to arrive. There is a big chunk of my back yard that is going to get tilled. I ordered the smaller one with the 12" tines. Which size did you use in that other video?

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  Před 8 lety

      I usually do a lot better with my machete throwing but holding the camera in one hand messed me up - it definitely shouldn't have taken that many tries. Congrats on the Meadow Creature! I have the 14". The 12" ought to be really easy to work with. Post a video if you get a chance - I'll link to it.

    I went to Costa Rica in the early eighties on a surf trip, I saw a post for 30 acres on the coast with some kind of cocoa orchards, and a hacienda for 30,000.00! Two problems though, what 20 year old had 30 grand in 1982, and if you didn't live on the property pretty much constant, someone else would, if you know what I mean! lol Costa Rica at that time wasn't very civil to non Tico's, no property rights at all back then.

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  Před 8 lety

      30 grand in '82 was like 100 grand now. I know the feeling of seeing something amazing, passing it by, then later wondering. Costa Rica has definitely gotten better over the years, though it's a lot more expensive now.

    • @fishrider62
      @fishrider62 Před 8 lety

      Yep, way better, hindsight is that place would have made a great surf camp! But, those weren't invented yet, I sure didn't think of it.

  • @trey2099
    @trey2099 Před 8 lety

    That is beautiful! You should start a boomerang hobby to help with
    those breadfruit. How close are you to being food self-sufficient?

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  Před 8 lety

      We're probably close. If we add more yams, chickens and some sheep, we could make it.

I have an edible yard on the central east coast of Florida on a barrier island and have been pretty successful with Mango, Sapodilla, carambola, barbados cherry, mutingia, sugar apple, canistel, peach, banana, avocado and citrus. Trying to get Jak fruit, litchi, and cherry of the rio grande to produce. Great inspiration! Makes me want to move back to Costa Rica.

    David, I recall a video you did where you mention citrus tree greening and a plant that is supposed to help prevent the citrus greening and was wondering do you recall that video or the plant? Thank you again for this video it is very informative. By the way will you offer eco /Agro tours at your new place at some point?

    • @davidthegood

      Guava trees contain a compound that's supposed to deter the citrus psyllids. I may offer tours at some point.

    David the only thing that blows my mind is the lack of any beautiffull design at all when it come to this Permaculture farms. They look like one big weedy mess. Is that the norm when it comes to Permaculture?

    • @davidthegood
      @davidthegood  Před 8 lety

      It wasn't designed with permaculture in mind at all. Just a straight up orchard with extra trees planted where there are spaces. It is an agroforestry system, though. If you've ever grown in the tropics, it's impossible to keep the weeds down in the rainy season anyhow - you just roll with it.
