- The Installation of this GMRS radio from Midland was installed on my 2021 JL Wrangler. The nice thing about the MXT275 radio is all of the radio controls are located on the hand mic. which means the head unit can be hidden away. Very stealthy installation. I paired this radio with an antenna mount from Cool Tech. Not only is this a quality mount but it enables you to mount your antenna In four different locations. Enjoy!

Great video, i have my antenna on a tailgate hinge mount. Cable runs along the passenger side. I worry about the hinge crimping the antenna wire. I also have a ground wire from the antenna through the tailgate and down below the jack to the frame. You gave me the idea to run the antenna wire that way and along the frame to the drain plug. Thanks for the great idea! I have a MXT 115 in the passenger side but the antenna wire will work the same as yours. Also, the radio ground goes over to the area for the door wires. Yours is better. I know my plans for this weekend - wiring!
Awesome. Glad to give you some ideas. Enjoy your weekend of wiring.!
Thanks for the vid. I’m curious to see where you ran the wire underneath. Not sure where to fasten it along the way.
The wire comes out of the drain plug going toward the passenger door, runs on top of the frame rail, into the engine bay next to battery, and finally along the back fire wall to the driver side. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Did you use the 12 ft cable from Cool Tech in addition to the mount?
Chris. I bought the midland radio bundle. Came with cable and ghost antenna. Thanks for watching .
I don't even know where to get a socket to remove the seat bolts. That fastener is new to me...
It’s a torx 50. The same one to remove your hardtop. Take a look in your Jeep tool kit that came with your Jeep. Thanks for watching.
I've got the MXT275, but I have 2 small issues with it; 1 - The volume control is not granular enough (to loud at No. 1 setting), & 2 - no way to lock in the active channel when scanning
I haven’t ran into that issue, but for an inexpensive radio it doesn’t surprise me. Cheers!
I ran into the problem of no split tones on this particular model which prevents me from using my local split tone repeater. I didn’t think about this when I purchased it. I have since upgraded to a full featured radio that is wide band, can scan other frequencies such as fire, police, can monitor two frequencies at once, 50 watt, split tones, etc.
do you have a vid about the mic mount that you used... by the way do you live in Santa Cruz CA? I ask because, I do .
Yes. I live In Santa Cruz. No video on the mic. But you can go to CMM website. Install is very easy.
Could always meet up as well. Cheers
@@santacruzoverlander I have a stock Gladiator with the Max tow, just so that you know my capabilities are at the monment... def up to meet and wheel.
is this radio unit waterproof?
Not that I know of. Thanks for watching.
@@santacruzoverlander hopefully in that location you don't have the doors off when you go through a deep puddle like I did and water got into the cab.
