Installing Midland MXT275: Jeep Wrangler JLU Overland Communication Upgrade

Despite the bitter cold, we decided to upgrade my wife's new Jeep Wrangler JLU with a Midland MXT275 GMRS Radio. Communication is crucial when exploring off-grid and on overland adventures, and our trusty Midland USA GMRS radios have never let us down. We fired up the Camco Big Red Campfire in the garage to take the edge off the chill and got to work.
One of our favorite antennas for these installs is the 3dB gain Ghost Antenna. It's small and sturdy, able to withstand branches on tight trails, while also being out of the way for clearance. The reception range is impressive, with radio chatter picked up sometimes from 10 or more miles away!

I'm getting ready to install a new radio and came searching for install vids for my JLU. I got some good info here, but just wanted to point out that there is a grommet in the firewall that you can remove to give you cab access rather than bringing the wires up and around the A pillar. Figure someone else may find that useful.

Yeah when the weather breaks I’m going to clean it up more. I build Toyotas normally. Wife defected and bought a Jeep so I have to learn Jeep now.

This is great thank you for the video. Just bought the MXT275 so I didn’t have to have head unit out. This is perfect place to put it. Have you had any heat issues?
