-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Who else here feels truly blessed to have been alive during the era of great music like this?
Yep!
Absolutely blessed! ❤️🔥
Yes!! And over across the pond, we were going for it too. Bowie, the Stones, Sex Pistols and the Clash. A great time to be alive.
young folk will never know, but glad they are finding these gems
me!
"I know it's a shame, but I'm giving you back your name." Gut wrenching..
The lyrics are heartbreaking. It's like he's talking himself through the realization that there was never a chance for a happy ending, that they were always going to break up, because he wasn't what she wanted and she wasn't what he needed. Real anguish, but also closure. It's a brilliant song.
It gives big “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed” energy and I’ve always loved that. Complete 180 from, say, You Oughta Know.
The Commodores and Earth, Wind, & Fire were absolutely everything back in the late 70s. Brings we right back to 7th and 8th grade. Such great music.
It is Lionel Richie singing. FYI: Richie/Commodores were from Alabama - hence that country twang. The group formed in college at Tuskegee Institute. You can hear the country in a lot of their early stuff.
Ritchie grew up in Joliet, Illinois
“Stuck On You “ has country elements also
@jimgoebel5348 Doesn’t take long to pick up that twang when you’re living in the South ! 🤣 Just ask this girl from New England!
Their early stuff was heavy on funk some jazz and R&B. You can hear some early Kool and the Gang influence and some Bar-Kays, especially the first 3 albums. Walter Orange sang and wrote a lot of their early stuff. Their slower stuff had a tad bit of country influence like 'Still', 'Stuck on You' and even 'Easy' but most of there stuff was R&B and funk
Tuskegee, wow, that's got some wild historic undertones
"Easy" is one of my favorite Commodore songs!
My favorite
Zoom. Live
Amazing
'Still' is it for me.
They did Easy a year ago mate. Its on the channel already 👍
YES!
One of my all time favorite songs. The lyrics and vocals are top notch. And that bass is just perfect.
What strikes me about this song is just how patient the Commodores were in unfolding everything it has to offer, revealing a serious level of musical confidence and sophistication.
Easy Like Sunday Morning is, to me, one of the greatest mellow songs ever written. It just creates a warm and happy mood.
Again I have to say, we're all so glad you love our music. We know who we are.........
True.
"History has been arranged; to hide us from our secret names. But God knows who we are."
Cassandra Wilson
"Memphis"
Hearing this just takes me back to my youth and i just didn't even realize i missed this kind of music so much.
Commodores were the soundtrack to our lives for probably 5 or 6 years. Everything they did was magic.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs by anyone. S tier for me.
"You gave nothing in return" just hits them where they live.❤
The excellence of the Commodores shines through ❤
Who can resist horns with strings AND bongos, drums and a great bass line. And the lyrics and delivery are a given. ❤
Because of the poll I went and listened to this again. I had forgotten how good it is. It's one of their best. It builds in just the right way. Good bass, good horn arrangement, enjoy.
"I Don't Care Anymore" by Phil Collins ❤ Greatest breakup song ever. Embraces the anger of a breakup.
Song For Shelby
by
David Bromberg
Yes, @rosenfield10, no doubt about that! "I don't care what you say, you never listened to me anyway...I don't care anymore." Anger and disrespect, couple that with a bit of verbal and some slight physical abuse, it can scar you. Been there, done with that. I hope A & A will do this song.
The Commodores' songs are some of the best moments of 70's music. Lionel Richie a first rate songwriter.
Their best songs include:. "Still", "Theee Times A Lady", "Just To Be Close To You", "Brick house ", "Sweet Love", "Machine Gun", (a fantastic instrumental), and a great hit without Richie, "Nightshift ".
Easy!
@@laurakali6522
Obviously, I thought if that 1st but then discovered they'd already did that one.
Love "Machinegun." A very underrated funk instrumental for sure. The bass synth in that song is top tier.
I love “Sweet Love” as well.
Rapid Fire even better than Machine Gun imo
Have always loved this song 💔
That big chorus with the bright brass, bongos and maracas uncorks and just soars, literally, sailing on past your ears and lingering forever in your head with perfect brevity.
Took it for granted while growing up; these songs and their counterparts were coming out weekly for my whole childhood and teenage years
This is “S Tier” for me all the way!! I wore out my 8track and 45 of this several times! And “Yes!”, this song DID help me and many other folks for sure!! That ending is so damn triumphant!!
The horns after the the 1st “sail on honey” never repeat but are just sublime
This is similar vibe to Chicago’s “feeling stronger everyday”
His song "Still" is similar but more emotional.
I always love the bass in these old Commodore tunes.
This song is therapeutic!
Lionel Richie! The Commodores! Awwwww what a time to be alive! 70’s music can’t be beat!
Literally "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" is the OTHER break up song to hit. Greg Kihn Band.
As a 64 year old man who remembers when this song made it's debut, I'm happy you two understand how good this song is.
Graduating high school in 1985 was the absolute BEST time in music! Now some might argue that the Woodstock Era or the late 70'S. BUT how awesome my music journey has been!
Hard to beat the Commodores for great R&B music. They never disappoint.
The music of the 70s.
Ain't gotta say any more! 🎵♥️
VERY TRUE 10 BEST YEARS EVER
This and Easy like Sunday Morn…sublime
forgot how good this song is. Thanks for reminding me 👍
Favorite line “I’m giving you back your name”
I saw the Commodores in concert in the early '80's. An excellent concert. Great sound
Nightshift is another gem that requires a listen...🎵Mahh-vin🎵
Yes!
Nightshift is definitely a fantastic song
I’ve listened to this song hundreds of times and know every word to it, but I never really noticed that it was such a great break up song. Maybe because the music feels so positive throughout. 🤷🏽♂️
Lionel Richie is a criminally underrated songwriter.
A Southerner equally at home in a Black Gospel church, Blues-Funk club or C&W hoedown, his musical chops were always impeccable. The Rolling Stones were inspired by the music, Lionel Richie lived it.
c'mon man
I was eight years old when this song was popular and my dad died unexpectedly. Every time I hear this song, it brings back memories of him.
Thanks for your reaction:)
Lionel Richie also wrote a hit song for Kenny Rogers, entitled "Lady". Even with Kenny Rogers singing it, you can hear his signature style all over it. He's an amazingly talented songwriter.
Being from Alabama, their home state, I've always been proud of the music of the Commodores. They did a trio of break-up songs close together about three different types of break-ups. Easy takes you by surprise because the chorus and easy melody didn't match the lyrics of a terrible break-up. Sail On covers a break where you're ready and willing to let it go and set them free. The hardest one for me to hear is Still... it's about a marriage that both tried hard to make work.. the love was there by other things going the wrong way.. listening to all three are powerful.
This was a great surprise! Classic Commodores! The thing about Lionel Richie is, he's from Tuskegee, AL, and puts all of his Southern life into his music, country feel included! He can get lost in the Stevie Wonder/Prince/Michael Jackson of it all, but his run of hits is spectacular!!
Love this song!
The Commodores were everywhere and everything at this time - the talent was undeniable.
Great tune. The Commodores were a hot dance band back in the day
Back in the day was the 1970s
Smooth as silk
One of my favorite songs ever! Thx guys!
The classic breaking up song 😭
I’ve always enjoyed this song and glad you kids did too.
"Sweet Love" - such an uplifting song by the Commodores.
What a glorious song - brings joy to one's heart. 😉
One of the best kiss-off songs in popular music. I think that great would-be chorus at the end was in place to show his jubilation: a huge burden has lifted when he decided to walk away.
It would be pretty much impossible to paint an adequate picture of just how MASSIVE Lionel Ritchie was in the early to mid 80s.
Those who have watched the We Are The World documentary got a taste. The night they recorded that song was the American Music Awards. Lionel Ritchie was the host... and won practically every category he could win!
MASSIVE.
The commodores were fantastic.
As you, Alex instanced, the structure of this song is just so self-assured - it saves the hookiest bit until last, but musically hints that it's coming up almost all the way through. So, that when it does get to it, there is such a great sense of fulfillment. It's a masterpiece of song writing and the musicality touches right through and the absolutely superb production it make it one of my top 3 songs of the 1970s.
The song "Still" still gives me goosebumps.
Although the full version does it much more justice this shortened version doesn’t feel like you’ve been shortchanged, a true classic
Amazing the songs I wouldn't be caught dead listening to when I was in my teens that I just love now, this is one of them for sure.
Omg thanks for connecting this with America (my favorite band). My best experience in Vegas was seeing the Commodores live then getting to dance with them at the hotel club right after. And Earth, Wind, and Fire guys showed up, too. Epic.
So smoooooooth.
Love this one! Classic! 🔥
I had Billy Ocean' " Carribean Queen" stuck in my head yesterday. I rarely get songs like that stuck, it's usually rock. 😊
I had turn your love around by George Benson 💕
The fabulous Lionel Ritchie singing and that amazing piano playing - so beyond talented. The Commodores have several timeless songs.
Such a beautiful song
Beautiful song♥️Love The Commodores♥️♥️
Maybe I am biased but the 70's produced the best music regardless of genre.
❤
Love the Commodores! All of the songs were when I was in High School. Great memories.
I forgot how great this song is. Top Tier!
I think I love this song more today …. Great song !!! Great reaction!!
Lionel Richie’s voice is magnificent. He’s always been smooth. The band is terrific, the strings, killer bass and percussion. I’m so glad to have grown up with this music!!
I sing this song at karaoke all the time...I was a kid in that era...but this was MUSIC! As a kid I heard it on the radio and my mother had the album (actual album lol)....When I got older I began to not only appreciate the lyrics, but also the instrumentation!!
The difference between today’s music and music like this is that today’s music describes the artist’s feelings and expects you to empathize. Music like this just lays it all out both musically and lyrically and evokes an individual emotional response from each listener.
Many thanks to Andy and Alex! 💎 In school, I used to tell people that lead singer *Lionel* *Richie* was my cousin... because we had the same last name (although spelled differently). 😆 My silliness notwithstanding, this is a most beautiful song.
Phil Collins "I Don't Care Anymore" is a banger of a break up song! Lyrically and sonically, it's the exact song ya need after a break up. It's from his 1982 solo album "Hello, I Must Be Going" (great album!).
Saw Lionel perform at the LA Olympics closing ceremony. Flawless live, as I expected. If I hadn't paid so much for the stupid tickets I woulda liked it more 😹
There was a time in the 70's where groups put out music very country inspired. Rolling Stones, Elton John, Eagles etc. Check out girl with far away eyes by the Stones.
Horns & strings ! 🎉🎉🎉
You need to hear the long version
Wait, there's a long version? O.o Extra vocals or just music?
@@MichaelB769 yup on BOTH it repeats the chorus, the last verse and has a longer outro
Its impossible to dislike this. Perfect.
I always liked this song...never was on my top 100 chart but was just one of those songs I loved listening to and singing to...its simple but just an easy catchy tune to listen to
During this time, my boyfriend was from a somewhat aristocratic French family and came to Dallas to intern where I worked. When he left, he sent me a cassette tape saying he was sorry but he had to marry a French woman or his father would disown him. I recorded this song over his message and sent it right back to him. He did stay in touch with me over the years and even sent me a picture of his first born child.
This is one of my favorite songs ever!! So good! ❤
the song ended with it's first & only chorus -truly unique!
I saw The Commodores in the late 80's in the old Omni in Atlanta. It was sold out, 15,000 fans. The crowd was about 50% black and 50% white. No fighting, no arguing, no racial issues of any kind. It was just 15,000 people enjoying music from one of the greatest bands of all time. Sail On, Commodores. Your music is timeless.
Why would there be a problem
I was a white kid growing up in rural South Arkansas in the 70’s. I sent in a penny to the Columbia Record and Tape Club and got 11 albums. The Commodores was the first album that I really got into. Lionel Richie was one of the first voices that I was drawn to. It’s actually kind of funny, funk and R&B are my first music language, and it’s all because of that record and tape club.
While all my friends were playing with Tonka trucks, I was in the game room, listening to Commodores, Parliament, Kool and the Gang and Johnny Guitar Watson.
This is my favorite Lionel Richie/Commodores song. It's amazing! Love the piano and strings.
Nice chill out song, it would be great if you could check out Al Green How can you mend a broken heart (live on soul 1972) top song
Oh the memories!! A good one!!!
Tampa in the House! Shout out to our home boys - Andy and Alex!!!
You played a prematurely faded version, That Breakdown at the very end oes on a while longer. MY FAVORITE!!!!
Oh Man! I had forgotten how much I love this song - haven't heard it in so many years. Thanks so much! I am having a whole new love affair with Lionel and his voice and the band just kicked ass!!! Such a great song.
The Commodores and Lionel Ritchie's solo stuff is pure gold.
Classic song. The ending notes “Sail On!!!” So good 😊
Beautiful song!
Love this song, it's a song that 95 percent of people can relate to, have went through and have lived with sometime in their life.
One of THE BEST songs, EVER🔥... ❤ The Commodores🙌
Everything about that song is perfect
Guys, love your insightful reactions to some of the best music ever, love the flower shirt too.
This song, and "Zoom" by far, S-tier and my all-time favorites from The Commodores.😊
