    Great video! But I think it might worth mentioning that the shaft can be changed without removing the gate? Since sticks like the silent JLF might get damaged if the gate is removed

    • @JoystickNY
      @JoystickNY  Před 3 lety

      I actually dont know the real reason behind it, it might be a manufacture secret, if u check the website on let say, focus attack, if u look for the silent sanwa jlf, it actually warns u, if u remove the gate, it breaks the stick. Which i did remove it and it doesnt work, becuz i like to test things out, i gotta play with it more to see

    • @right_455
      @right_455 Před 3 lety

      @@Evoskylution17 it’s not in the video but it’s a quote from the manufacturer sanwa, I think it might be the switches they used are more fragile than normal ones so they made this claim?

    This video is super helpful and I've referenced it (and some of your other videos) many times. I've been working on a one handed joystick mainly for playing SNES RPGs. I know it might seem like overkill to make a controller just for that, but I have issues with my hands and can't use a d-pad for very long. I started modding my 8bitdo Arcade Stick based on your video and I kind of got into modding and building custom arcade sticks. It's a fun hobby and the parts are cheap! I recently modded my wayfair computer desktop with 30mm holes and a 26mm lever hole and put hardware in it plus wallmounts to have what basically amounts to a desktop arcade cabinet. Since the desktop was a little thicker I went with a long shaft for my JLF and an extra stiff spring and it all turned out perfect. Highly reommend if you have a spare computer desk laying around to convert it into a stick desk :P you can wrench on it as hard as you want and its not going to go anywhere, just like the old arcade cabinets.

    And the closest thing to the joysticks in the old Nintendo arcade cabinets is the JLF with the octagon gate, add the LS-33 spring inside the JLF spring, and the Kowal actuator...

    Should the lever rotate freely? I have the mayflash f500 elite and sometimes when performing combos, my hands slips and then the lever rotate and goes to different direction.
    I really don't like this and perfer if the lever/shaft would move but not rotate

    Love your videos, just a recommendation though, if possible in the camera don't use auto focus for the Parts and details of the joystick, it's hard to see with the focus changing constantly with the movement of your hands, still awesome video

    Can I ask I have an arcade machine with a Sanwa JLF and have used an extender. With the extender I am unable to use the shaft cover as it is now not long enough. Are you able to purchase longer shaft covers?
    Thanks and keep up the great content 👍

      Great question, i actually realized it too when i was messing around with the shafts and extenders, i personally dont use a shaft cover, and i never seen a longer shaft cover, try doing a search on focus attack, paradise arcade shop and arcadeshock and ebay, if no luck, i think you can cut a shaft cover and crazy glue it to a shaft cover for the coverage. If you have extra shaft cover laying around, and then just sand down the unflat side 🙏❤️

  • @Untilitpases
    @Untilitpases Před 2 lety +1

    I'd expect a shorter shaft would take less motion (I.e. from your hand/forearm) to execute a move resulting in faster execution. Like picture rotating a pencil from the middle or from the top, you'll find the arc it travels gets progressively larger as the distance from the base grows.
    Am I wrong? I fail to see how so, perhaps the difference is negligible?

    • @capresenooj4359
      @capresenooj4359 Před rokem

      Ive been using a short shaft paired with a 2lb spring (stock is 0.9lb) and it is noticeable how much less you have to move the stick, it especially makes DP motion and guilty gear 632146 supers easier to do

    If you watch Segaholic's channel, he's an arcade OG who was custom building some of the first E sports sticks for Virtua Fighter players in the early 2000's, in his video he shows that some places or people use a dust washer up top as normal, but also one directly under the same surface so there is even more protection, that would obviously have to be a smaller circled one for shaft width only, not for a cover. So shaft cover,, shaft cover washer up top, and a shaft only dust cover directly underneath the playing surface and maybe 4 lb spring is maybe good to stand up to the daily wear and tear of the public in an arcade as the spring also softens over time
    czcams.com/video/IMkLzSXigEU/video.html 14:20
    for the two dust covers shown, I think it may even be put upside down perhaps, I wonder if this affects the joystick height as well depending on the mounting plate

    10:50 That washer got me a little worried tbh. Last time I tried to take apart and put back together my Sanwa I realized that something was wrong. Basically whatever direction I was pressing it always felt as if something under under was getting on the way. I took it apart again, and I found out that that washer was sticking to the actuator, thus moving out of its base, and I was wondering if something like that was normal, due to the grease applied onto. (In the end I put things back together and it got back to normal, even though I kind of got traumatized that my input execution has worsened a bit 😅)
