    As a Canadian, with the COVID situation, it created a backlog in procedures. Before COVID, there wasn't a three year wait list for cataracts. Hospitals, to catch up, are referring patients to clinics. There are wait times for knee and hip replacements, but to have surgery and be completely covered vs. US health care with deductibles and maximum limits set. I would hate to think what happens after you reach your dollar limit. Canada has NO limits, millions could be spent on a patient and you will not be cut off.

    What companion health medical insurance would you recommend with Skymed for both snowbirds and long term residents, especially over age 65? Thanks.

    How do medical tourists arrange a surgery even paying cash in a reputable Mexican hospital instead of waiting in Canada or even the US?

      You have to consider what recourse you would have if your surgery isn't done correctly?

    Catherine, since you live full-time in Mexico, if your husband had an emergency and had to be flown back to the US for treatment with his Medicare, do you have to have a residence in the US for Medicare to cover the emergency (since you are living out of the country for longer than plan C allows coverage)? I have heard so many different opinions on this.

    We here in Canada do not have to wait that long.. Knee replacement was 2 weeks... Second was a month... I have never seen anyone that had to wait more than a few months for serious illnesses...

    • @timgibbs4762

      What Province has such short wait times?

    • @sgkruse
      @sgkruse Před 2 lety +3

      Is this true? We're in Manitoba and have 130,000 procedures waiting to be done here with COVID delaying surgeries and diagnostic procedures. Our wait times are in excess of three years currently, depending on what needs to be done.

    • @ddavidson5
      @ddavidson5 Před 2 lety +2

      I agree and if you have a serious illness typically you are seen to right away. My wife had appendicitis and here in Ontario was operated on the same day. Similarly my brother-in-law had a failing liver (which turned out to be induced by a cancer growth in another organ) and he was operated on very quickly. Joint replacements, while major, are not usually life threatening and a wait of a few weeks is tolerable. Of course if you live in a province currently being overrun by Covid you may have to wait longer.

      Wrong I waited 2 years for knee replacement in Canada. The waits are very long. My fathers has waited 2 years for a hip replacement.
