As Joakim said in an interview: "None of what we say are our opinions, these are things that happened, so if you have a problem with that you have a problem with history and not us".
Nothing more needs to be said, that says it all.
And I loved the song from the first second, it's so catchy, I've had a catchy tune from it every day since the release of this song.

I think they're not immune to critism about the way that they frame things, who they chose to glorify & how they glorify them, but overall I do disagree with those criticisms. They've got a big catalog & are bound to have made some choices that some people find distasteful. Joakim has also come out & plainly said that he thinks that war is a terrible thing, and that absolutely comes out in their music.

History is one of the most subjective topics. Not complaining as every nation should have their own verzions and mythos. Thats one of the things that keeps us different and unique. Of course wars and death are fought over such things. But thats part of the beauty

@@adamhanson5565 That's the point though. They glorify herosim and compassion, no matter who shows it. Just because someone holds views you disagree with that does not mean that them giving their lives for what they believe in is less heroic than someone who happens to be fighting for your cause. Obviously that doesn't count for those who pull innocents into it (like extremist suicide bombers), but in the trenches of a warfront a US marine can be just as heroic as a nazi or soviet. Sabbaton celebrates what they did and not who they were. They have not once glorified any inhumane deeds they have never glorified any terrible actions, they celebrate compassion and humanity. If they sing about a great person doing a great deed, then if you get offended by said person not having been born in the country you would have prefered them to that is your problem, not Sabbatons. They're not immune to criticism, but any criticism of that kind I have come across was unfounded from people who didn't understand what the song was about or who took offense to a hero being celebrated because they happened to have fought for a side they don't like. So while you can obviously criticise whatever you want, any criticism I have seen so far was bullshit and snowflakes who think that if you are on the wrong side that automatically makes everything you do evil and anything you say wrong. The kind of people who think that the sky would turn pink if a nazi said it was blue, because nazis are evil and therefore everything they do is evil and everything they say is wrong. And I'm sorry but that's simply not criticism you can take serious in any way. That's just special snowflakes being naive.

Fritz Haber is a name every chemistry student knows. Billions of people alive today owe their lives to him and the method he developed of synthesising ammonia on an industrial scale, making possible the mass production of fertiliser and increased yields of food crops. But, his work also caused untold suffering to thousands of soldiers who found themselves on the wrong end of a gas attack. Haber's complex legacy is a good lesson that science isn't inherently good or evil- it's what you choose to do with that knowledge that counts.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the guitar solo adds to the dichotomy in the song. A man that earned the Nobel Peace Prize, who also helped make a weapon with a high body count. The darkness of the chorus reflects the war, and the uplifting guitar solo to reflect the good he did in his life. After watching the history episode for this song, I actually have great respect for Fritz Haber.

I think part of the reason the solo is so upbeat compared to the rest is because it *is* such a complicated subject.
Yes, Dr. Haber *did* father chemical warfare with his creations of chlorine & mustard gas - a horrific new type of weapon that he believed was simply the natural evolution of warfare just like firearms were before it.
He also created the Haber-Bosch process and that allows for the global population to be as large as it is without large-scale famine being as frequent - which really is a moment of triumph for our entire species.
Both are used to this day, and sometimes it can be difficult to reconcile that they came from the same man.

Things become even more complicated after the war, as scientists under his insitution created Zyklon A leading to Zyklon B, which was the gas the Nazis used, including on some of Haber's own extended family. Interestingly, his son would become an economist in the UK and publish a complete history of chemical warefare in the Great War.

I feel like the change to the "happier" solo is a great play on the contradiction of: Here's this guy that did so much good in peace time and then turns around and causes so much damage in the time of war. I could be way over-analyzing this but that's the vibe I got as soon as I heard the key change for the solo.

I, too, have the feeling, Jocke unpacked his deeep down range for this. And yes, being a baritone, he sings/ can sing pretty deep.

Sabaton are awesome. Funny fact about the Carolus Rex album made the sales of history books about Sweden skyrocket.

I have always thought of Sabaton, Valley of Death, to have my favorite guitar solo/bridge section of all their music, this song takes second place for sure.
And if your wondering why the guitar solo was uplifting, I theorize that it's intentional to show the 2 sides of Haber's accomplishments, the happy uplifting sound for his achievement in feeding 2 thirds of the world and causing a global population growth by almost triple to quadruple, by inventing synthetic Ammonia to be used in Fertilizer and Freezer box cars, with the dark chorus and vocals to represent the horrors of death caused by his use of Ammonia for Chlorine Gas. If you are unfamiliar with what Mustard gas and Chlorine gas does, it basically liquifies the lungs from the inside out, causing internal bleeding and suffocation. (At least I'm dead certain)

Completely agree with the whole Sabaton make me want to learn more about the History argument. Same with the Band 1914. Especially the ww1 stuff, as we did not learn much about it in school here in Germany ,whereas WW2 got pretty much hammered into our heads in history class.

Dat chorus doh. It reminds me of Carolus Rex. I can’t place songs that feature his deep voice but I love it.
As for the EPs this is part of the first which is the only new song. The other EPs will have more new songs to my knowledge

While its a song about Fritz Haber it's almost message talking about the morality of science and being careful with what you create and to the people saying it wasn't his choice it very much was he even instructed the German military on how to properly deploy it.

The mixed vibes are because he invented a gas that killed so many people but he also made an enormous triumph for fertilization with his synthetic ammonia.

Similar to Hiram Maxim's creation of the Maxim Gun (machinegun) Haber-Bosch believed chemical weapons would act as a deterrent to enemy attack, and thus war would be short or not waged at all. Unfortunately humanity is all too keen on using whatever weaponry is available to seek victory.

There's no arguing as to Haber's legacy, the man was one of the greatest contributors to human wellbeing in history. Those who died because of chemical warfare don't even begin to compare to the lives his work saved.
