So here's the thing. I agree with almost everything in this video except for one thing. I was the singular person who wanted the Country of Musketeers. I grew up watching the Three Musketeers movie over and over when I was young and I lost my absolute shit when I heard it was confirmed for 3ds. That was what convinced me to buy both the game and the system. It is my greatest sin.

recently discovered your stuff when i was looking for a guide for all the treasures in kh1 - i kept thinking “omg i wish i had my old strategy guide with all the stickers!” so when i found your guide it was a life saver. then over the next week i just ended up watching your stuff and i have to say i’m really glad i found your channel. we’re around the same age so a lot of your experiences with the series mirror my own. my cousin also helped me beat the first game, i read the strategy guide so much it nearly fell apart, and certain parts of that game terrified me because i was so little when i was playing it!
i think your content is really strong overall, though. don’t doubt yourself. you’re funny and you speak really well on these topics. you have a good mixture of sharing information while also having personality in what you’ve posted so far. most kh vids on yt are pretty devoid of the personality part, so it’s nice to see.

I love Days and it deserves a massive reexamination in the fanbase imo!! It’s so good, the story is fantastic and the slowburn pacing of it as you do mundane missions is absolutely my kind of shit (though I guess if that’s not your thing or you don’t care for the story in Days then I guess it’s just not for you). I also love the setup of getting to play throughout Roxas’ time in the organization and as a massive fan of the franchise, getting to see the Organization members interact with each other on a casual level is honestly the best.
The battle system isn’t nearly as bad as people say either; like yeah, it’s definitely a DS game, but it’s got a retro charm to it in it’s clunkiness and it’s at least never unfair or broken. I can see why people don’t care for the panel system, I personally liked it but I also like jigsaw puzzles and Tetris so that goes without saying. Overall, I think it’s a really solid experience and it’s miles better than the clunky cutscene movie they slapped together for the HD Remix. I really wish they’d port it for the Switch or something, maybe in a bundle with re:coded, but that’ll probably never happen since the fanbase barely even acknowledges the two titles.

For Days, I feel like I enjoyed it more than most would. The character stuff in the game is top notch like you said, where we get to see the ordinary lives of the organization members. I felt the gameplay was fine, aside from the later boss battles being bs and missions that consisted of chasing a single fast enemy in a large room, but I really enjoyed the mission system. It was also great to finally be able to play as the organization members, Donald, and Goofy after so long.
As for Birth by Sleep, I was surprised to hear you say that a lot of people are giving it a lot of flack nowadays. Even though I was in a tough spot in my life when I played it, there were a lot of great highlights. The command deck system was great, it was interesting to see how they split the story and worlds between three characters, who in turn felt unique and more useful during different phases of the game.

Seeing you put Days in D hurt me a lil bit. I’m sure for a LOT of people this game only lives in old memory, but I think it holds up fairly well.
While a lot of people may not love the whole Roxas/Xion/Axel story, the story of the Organization as a whole is well done in the game, showing you insights into a lot of their characters and relationships, giving you just a little bit more to chew on towards Xemnas, and filling in some gaps relating to KH CoM and 2. Personally I think the Xion boss fight is possibly the most emotional and beautiful struggle in the whole series, pitting you against one of Roxas’s closest friends after seeing her grow and develop over the course of the game, and forcing you to watch as Roxas holds her as she fades away, only to tragically forget her existence immediately after.
I’ll admit that the Panel system was maybe a bit jank and some of the missions can be tedious, but the intricate world layouts, secret bosses and encounters in missions, and dope ass abilities and combos Roxas can master help it out greatly (Many of them that originated here would be carried forward into BBS and beyond).
Not to mention that it was the first KH to game to have Multiplayer! Mission mode could be extremely fun with friends, allowing you to crush those extremely challenging secret bosses with 4 people, and able to play as any of the Organization members, as well as Sora, Riku, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy.
It’s sad that it’s been stuck back on the DS, and thus many people haven’t revisited it since their youth. I think I last played it 5 or 6 years ago, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit! Personally a B tier for me.

wow, this is a great video dude. loved hearing your thoughts and opinions and it’s always refreshing to see discussion of the pros as well as cons of the series, and i’m glad you’re willing to put controversial opinions out there. one lukewarm defense i’d like to give towards KH2 is your point about the Disney content being filler.
while yes, the Disney worlds are in no way as impactful, well designed, and important as KH1’s, I’d still argue they’re actually not THAT bad, and actually better in my opinion than KH3’s. to explain what I mean, it comes down to the goals of our protagonists in each game. KH1 and 2 has Sora looking for his friends, trying to keep peace, help people out, and get back home. simple and understandable. KH3? uhhh.... he needs the power of waking? whatever that means? (which i’ve played through the game a few times and it still makes no sense, especially considering when he ends up getting it all he had to do was wish for it really). this vague power is what he’s looking for the whole game but nobody really tells him how to get it, so it just feels like you’re wandering around leveling up waiting for the plot to come back and tell you you’ve earned it. in KH2, while it’s really disappointing that they didn’t integrate the overall story as much into them, the Disney words don’t feel as bad as they could because they’re still looking for Riku and the king and fighting off a new enemy. something simple and identifiable like that helps to remember what we’re there for, but i wish they could’ve brought it up more in the plot of the worlds. also, while it’s not super consistent, there are the integrations of Organization members in a few of them (Luxord in Pirates, Demyx in the Underworld, etc.). and a lot of worlds after completion have cutscenes from the main plot to kind of reward you with little bits of progression. going back to my KH3 comparison, while it technically does have more to remind you what’s going on throughout the worlds, it doesn’t really feel like it because it’s just constant exposition explaining lore we already know or bringing up questions. theres no focus, there’s not much REAL progression, and like you said, no significant halfway point like KH2. there’s no 2 hour Hollow Bastion 2 visit where we get a bigger picture of what’s going on with lots of development, making up a little bit for the slower pacing in the worlds. while yes, WAY more scenes going back to the main plot are spread throughout, ESSENTIALLY nothing happens. it’s all just characters talking about how to get the others back, backtracking and overexplaining. for 75% of KH3 except for the beginning and the end. also i get that every other game dumped a ton of stuff at the end, that is indisputable. but it doesn’t feel as earned or impactful in KH3 because the events leading up to it were so confusing and not really that important, and everything that does happen in the end is just predictable. it’s really nice to see, but it was obvious that everyone was gonna get back together no matter what. i just wish they did everything else more interestingly. also the Disney worlds are much longer in KH3 which is great for content but bad for pacing.
anyways, sorry for the long tangent. i still agree with plenty of your points and loved the video. just wanted to give a position i don’t see many people take (maybe because i don’t make sense lol). you just earned a sub. i love this kind of discussion. keep it up :)

My problem with Terra isn't "how could he not see that Xehanort is evil?" even though there were subtle signs that he is at least a little weird.
My problem is that he shows NO sign of critical thinking and skepticism. I feel like his story would've made more sense if it were Ventus since he's a kid, thus easier to manipulate. Terra is an adult, who is more capable of level headed thinking. I don't expect him to outright argue with Xehanort over every thing he says (he's a master after all, worthy of respect) but Terea could have at LEAST shown some skepticism over Xehanort's overt praise of darkness. Terra was trained for perhaps his whole life to fight the darkness, yet ONE guy comes along who he may have just met, and he just believes him?
I don't think he should have seen through every trick, but SOME form of questioning would've made him 10x better for me. He just comes across as really easy to trick, which makes me think far less of him.
Riku went though a very similar thing in KH1 but again, Riku was a child, thus easier to manipulate.

While I agree that Eraqus' almost overblown hatred of the darkness probably pushed Terra away somewhat, I'd argue that Eraqus (also a master worthy of respect) probably has some knowledge worth considering. Maybe Terra could have thought that there has to be SOME reason Eraqus is so repulsed by darkness, it can't be that simple, and that Xehanort is WAY too into darkness that there has to be some questions being asked.
Again, I don't think it would make sense for Terra to be fully skeptical of everything he's told, but SOME internal conflict over this sort of thing would gave gone a long way for me. It really doesn't help that he's an adult, I wouldn't even think of this complaint if it were Ventus, or when it was Riku.

I have played through and 100%’d every kh game that was console available, some even several times over. I’m actually in the middle of a 100% playthrough the the entire series. For me, the order of my favorite KH games are:
1: KH2 - I prefer it over KH1 solely for the amount of content in the game, and how much better the combat feels. The addition of optional endgame bosses was also a nice plus.
2: KH1 - KH1 will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first KH game i played, and back then i couldn’t even get past the trickmaster. Feelsbad when sora commits die.
3: KH3D - I enjoyed playing through the entirety of KH3D. The addition of a new type of enemy and a separate mechanic to adopt them as party members that you could form bonds with was really fun. The commands you could unlock were also especially satisfying to unleash mid-battle. It eventually became repetitive though, especially with the dive segments and dream bosses.
4: KH3 - The game everyone waited for. I personally found KH3 to be a disappointment. It felt rushed at some points, too childish at others. Despite being the largest installment, the game felt way too short. I have no doubts it would have been better if it had the right dev team, and they took their time. Re:Mind gave a much more satisfying ending to the game, and made the combat so much better. But i still can’t forgive what they did to my boy.
5: BBS 0.2 - Seeing Aqua’s story and descent into darkness was very fun. To see it was soo soon before the first game too, was even better. The game was short, but it felt just long enough. The graphics improvement was a huge plus too. How i wish they would remake the past games on the unreal engine.
6: BBS - I enjoyed BBS as a prequel to the original story. The command menu was fun to use, especially after having already played 3D. Though i found it to be too much of a grind to get 3 different save files at 100%, just to unlock the secret ending.
7: KH:recom - While i never played the ds version, i did play the ps2 remake. This game is the culmination of my hatred. This is the only KH game that took me more than a month to complete. Infact, my first playthrough took over a year. Some of the bosses were way too hard as a kid; days of raging, quitting and coming back weeks later just to beat it first try. It fills a huge hole in the plot between KH1 and 2 though, and Riku’s story was a huge redeeming factor.
8: KH 358/2 days - I never got the chance to play this game, but i did watch the movie. The movie just made me wish they remade the game instead. The story was great, and while the ending was a sob scene, it just made it better.
9: Melody of Memory - I have placed this game here, strictly because i have yet to play it. I like rhythm games though, and the ending has me excited for the next installment so i’d say it did its job.
10: KH Unchained X - I have not and will not play the mobile installment of this story. The art style is just TOO childish, too cute. But the movie adaptation in 2.8 looks amazing. Following the stories of the ancient foretellers was interesting and it also helps pave the way for the existing story, both answering old questions and bringing new ones.
12: KH Re:Coded - I have never played this game. But it watched it. This “movie” was so boring, and it far overstayed its welcome. The fact that they sold a retelling of the first KH twice is astounding. Similar to KH2 you even have to go through every world a second time, but unlike kh2 it’s just so much worse...
13: KH Union Cross/Dark Road - Heh.. No. Same with Unchained X, i hate the mobile art style. I keep in check with the story though, since it maintains significance.

One thing I’ve noticed in all of your videos is that you tend to use the same two words to describe KH1 as I do: atmosphere and mystique. It’s just a different feeling you get when playing it than you have with any other game in the series-though I do agree that BBS comes closest to that feeling. That’s probably why I have the easiest time replaying it than the other installments, even if I may like other installments a little more overall. Just that intangible X-factor of mystique.

people always bitch about the bbs trio not realizing Xehanort is evil but like they have no reason to assume he is, those three grew up pretty sheltered, Xehanort is a friend of Eraqus', Xehanort is also a keyblade master, they were taught to respect their elders and why should they distrust someone who is trusted by Eraqus? iirc Eraqus himself didnt realize what Xehanorts plan was until it was too late? ( I could be wrong about that tho),

358/2 days was my first Kingdom Hearts game.
I didn't really understand everything but it really made me passively hate Sora and, to a lesser scale, Riku.
I think it really works as an alternative introduction to the series, it's like Roxas became the hero and not Sora.
Combat system wasn't really special, but I don't think a 2009 DS game could have done better. Still, solid story and emotional beats. From pure nostalgia I would rank it way higher, but if we're being honest I think your place for it is good. Maybe C ? I don't know.

Definitely agree that the mechanics and gameplay of Days aren't anything to rave about; they aren't super interesting, or ever all that good. But the reason I have a soft spot for it is the story. You literally get to be in the capital 'B' Bad Guy organization. You're chillin' with the enemies, working with them, and even getting to like a lot of them. Plus, the Axel, Roxas, Xion crew is so much fun. I love them as much as I love the Sora, Riku, Kairi crew. It's a really tragic story, but there's a lot of fun and beauty in it too.
Not to mention, the DS version has some of the wonkiest dialogue lines in the series, and that's saying something.

  • @Malisteen
    @Malisteen Před 2 lety +1

The world of darkness was so cool & compelling in 0.2. It's so frustrating that the series never really spent time there before or after. DDD would have been so much better & made so much more sense if s&r had been going to the realm of darkness to try to restore worlds that had fallen into it instead of introducing but not really explaining the 'dreaming worlds' concept. Heck, you could have combined the two with dark=night=sleep=drean with worlds in darkness being 'asleep', dream eaters being a kind of heartless that aren't inherently hostile within their own realm, etc etc.
Likewise one of the complaints of kh3 is pacing - there's no strong mid point like the return to twilight town in kh1 or the return to radiant garden in kh2, and then way too much is crammed in at the end. Imagine instead you visit worlds once, go to the graveyard and get the bad ending at the mid point, then the final world bit, then instead of a short sequence fighting the lich heartless several times in a row in individual rooms from the disney worlds instead have a whole second half of the game entirely in the realm of darkness with sora actually revisiting the worlds to find and restore his friends' hearts - along the way encountering and saving aqua, reviving ven, etc, before going back to redo the graveyard with a complete team and winning. You get a strong mid point that way, you get time in the world of darkness to see first hand what's at stake if xehanort wins, you separate replayed scenes by half the game instead of half an hour, etc.

I think Days is my favourite side game, pretty much just because you get to play as the boy, Roxas. Also out of all the friendship trio things in the series, RAX feels the most natural (except maybe SDG) imo cuz pretty much the whole game you're just watching their relationships develop. Also I really like this part where Roxas and Xion first arrive in Beast's Castle and think it's haunted (which I guess it sort of is). Speaking of, if you were to ask me, I'd say that Days also does a pretty solid job of weaving the KH stuff with the Disney stuff. Since such a big part of the game is Roxas developing his relationship to himself, his pals and the Organization, the disney worlds (from what I remember) really heavily contribute to Roxas' growth more than I feel like they do with the other protagonists in the other games. But yeah, it ain't very fun to play. Story and character-wise though, I think it might be in my top 4 or 5 in the series. I haven't really given any substantial thought as to where I'd place any of the other games in the series (except for the numbered titles, same rankings as yours) but I'd definitely put Days in like upper B. Also Union X and Dark Road are in E for me. Everything else is probs around B or C.
Writing this at like 4am, so sorry if that wall of text ends up being a bunch of nonsense. Also, for our minor disagreement about Days, I must ask that you DRINK MY BLOOD AND BURN IN HELL YOU SKINNY DORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!(jk)

Loving your content! You've made me reconsider my own feelings on some of the games. I've always liked them all - but I don't think I realized just how much I adore 1, despite revisiting that less than any others.
I think for me my ranking would be:
1: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix (Seriously, the more I think about how small the disney worlds used to be, yet how much personality and hidden secrets they housed in KH1, the more love I have for this game. A full on epic RPG version with Super Mario 64esque level design. A lot of things were of course improved upon - but i'm still mad that they got rid of tech points for parrying. It actually gave me proper incentive to learn how to block and time my attacks - whereas in most future games you can mostly just pummel everyone that isn't a boss. From 2 and onwards there were lots of great quality of life improvements - but I do think 1 as a complete package is top tier.
2: Kingdom Hearts 3/Re:Mind (Idk if it's just how hyped I was for it, but KH3 was the opposite of birth by sleep for me, in that it was over far too soon. The content that was there I liked, most of the worlds were passable if not great. Toy Box is probably my favourite disney world in the franchise, I was so excited to see some Pixar representation. But there are one too many flaws for me - the disney worlds felt very seperate from the main plot - not quite as bad as 2, but still there, the gameplay loop was very linear - which isn't neccesarily a bad thing, but I didn't like it here. It felt weirdly rushed, which is weird considering how long it was in development for. Still - a very good time, and with the added data battles I find myself having less reason to revisit KH2 other than if I want to experience the whole saga again - which I definitely will)
3: Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix (In some aspects this is my favourite - the combat is so satisfying, the story is the perfect follow up to 1 and COM, and all the new final mix content was perfect. But the more I think about it, and one thing your videos made me realize, that yeah, the disney worlds are the least impressive of any main game. 3 had the grand sizes, 1 had small but intricately designed levels with lots to explore and discover, even birth by sleep did a passable job of the KH1 world design ethos of small but lots to find - but 2 they're just kind of there to facilitate the combat)
4: 0.2 A Fragmentary Passage (If it wasn't for how short this game was, it could've easily been a number 1 contender - I loved the story, the gameplay, the secret boss is my all time favourite in the series, the little quirks like the outfits for aqua (I wish that was carried over to 3, I loved being able to customize appearance). I like how it ties up the end of KH1 too, even if it is a bit forced.)
5: Birth By Sleep ( These last 5 I all adore equally - but if I had to pick one that I get tired with first, it'll be BBS - and I think that's predominently because of how long and repetitive it is. I think they do a really good job of mixing up the worlds and playing through the different story perspectives is a really good storytelling method. But I find that by the end of a BBS completion run, I find myself wanting less)
6:Dream Drop Distance (I quite like this one gameplay wise - but the worlds do feel very empty - sort of like days, but in days it made a bit more sense from the context of playing as the Organization - whereas the sleeping worlds just felt kind of blegh. I have a soft spot for the dream eaters though)
7: Melody of Memory - (Still working through this one - and although it's kind of disappointing with some of its omissions, I am having a lot of fun with this - and am more likely to want to replay this one than Re:Com. I think having a game with the ambience of KH that you can just pick up and play for a little while without having to get fully immersed and engaged is nice)
8: Re: Chain Of Memories (I fully agree with your video on this - it is such a good story, but I feel that the 3D remake took away a lot of the charm and really showed the mechanical cracks. This game is better than people give it credit for - but I'm also not in a hurry to replay it. I honestly think if I could've chosen, I would've rather chain of memories been included as a cutscene compilation on the HD releases, and 358/2 days getting a full remake. Chain of Memories worked as a GBA game, far better than days worked on the DS imo)
9: 358/2 Days (If this were to get a full remake in the KH2 Engine this could easily rocket up to the top 5 - I adore the story. I quite like the weird tetrisy equipment mechanics - I like how you can play as all of the organization in mission mode. This game had so much potential that I feel like was lost due to hardware constraints and a less ambitious world selection. There's only so many times I can revisit the KH1 worlds before I get bored)
10: Re:Coded (In some ways I prefer this to Days, I think gameplay wise it's infinitely more engaging, but the meh story and repetition of the KH1 worlds, without the benefit of exploring them with completely new characters, meant it felt a bit tedious)
11: Dark Road (Haven't actually played yet, so giving it the benefit of the doubt)
12: Union X (Great lore hidden behind freemium bullshit gameplay. I'm so mad that this exists in this format - because I'm obligated to care as a KH fan, but it's a nightmare for the completionist in me at how much there is to do and how little I care about any of it.)

This Video is...a little bit older but I want to say, you're vids are great! I've been looking for a Kingdom Hearts channel for what feels like dacades. I mostly agree with the list. Re:Coded for me is just this filler type Thing, a rewind like "hey, remember that?" Gameplay is fun and some Storybits also but it's more like something you should play cassual.
For days, I personally love this game! After beating 2 for god knows how many times it's nice to see everything from the perspective of the antagonists...as specially Xardas was pretty interesting. Gameplay wise it's fun, nothing for more than two hours straight, but with the mission system and the slow pacing of the Story, it really feel like a whole year is passing. In fact I played the whole game for more than 200 hours, just for the experience...sorry long comment, what I'm trying to say: amazing videos and replay days and maybe re:coded, if you feel like it

    1. Birth By Sleep
-has one of my favorite things, simultaneous campaigns that intertwine.
    2. Dream Drop Distance
-has TWEWY characters!? Free flow combat.
    3. Kingdom Hearts 1
-the Disney interaction was it’s strongest here. Loved beating up Disney villains with my fat key sword.

I like KH3, the only reason i rank it slightly lower than KH2 is content. Even with Re:Mind kh3 is just so... short. Its frustrating too since I like the combat of 3 more, it feels so fluid and satisfying. Movement fluidity is one of the most important things a game can do for me, and kh3 nails it. Wall run into flowmotion jump into dash into glide just feels so perfect. The problem is I barely had any time with it. KH2 has you revisit every world except like timeless river and the final one. KH3 doesn't give you any reason to reuse Gigas or the pirate ship, both of which i enjoyed.
Every time a villain shows up in KH2 i recognize it as important. Jafar may have a downgrade since KH1 (KH1 is better imo), but at least i recognize that he is a threat to his world. Mother Gothel was just kinda there until she went heartless. Larxene existed in Arendelle, which i keep forgetting was in the game. Vanitas I think showed up before the thing with Aqua and Ven. Maleficent and Pete took a guided tour for the entire game. You at least fought Pete in kh2, and maleficent served as an unlikely ally. Come to think of it, Olympus and Caribbean are the only two worlds with what felt like genuine threats to me. Hades may be off the whole council thing but taking over the cosmos still seems like a relatively worthwhile goal. Rock Titan was an actual fight. I was invested in watching the scramble for the chest, Luxord made it feel important even if it wasn't what he was after.
I mean I liked the Big Hero 6 world. Hiro and Baymax were the main two I cared about, but the world felt so different and alive. Its a shame its one and done with not that much time actually spent there. I feel similarly about a lot of kh3 worlds. KH2 worlds were less appealing individually but that repetition made me care more about the people in them. KH3 didnt even get coliseum. Overall i would like kh3 more if it just had more to it. Liked what I got but I didnt get enough.

"I don't think anyone is saying Days is super fun to play." You'd be surprised. Had a conversation a while back with a guy who was talking about how it sucks Days wasn't playable in the HD collection. I talked to him about how Days best aspect is its story and the rest kinda falls flat, but he just outright disagreed with me. And like, more power to him I suppose, but I really can't see what he means. I really can't see any reason to play Days in 2023. Sure, when it was the only normal Kingdom Hearts game on a portable console, but now we have Re:Coded, Birth By Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance, all three of which blow Days out of the water. And since the story is in 1.5, yeah, there's no real reason to go back to Days outside of completion's sake.

Yikes on the 3D take D': Imo it's the only handheld game that even comes close to controlling like the first two mainline entries, and some of the recurring worlds have far better design than the first two mainline entries. I mean, 3D Traverse Town is in my top 5 worlds in the whole series. From the rearranged field music, to it feeling like the most well realized town in the series, idunno, maybe I'm the odd one out, but 3D is my favorite handheld KH game.
I'm more of a gameplay oriented person, so the freedom of movement and exploration earned some serious points from me.

    • @RegularPat
      @RegularPat  Před 2 lety +1

I do love DDD Traverse Town. I think the game has high highs and low lows tbh. My main issue with Dream Drop (honestly can't remember if/how much I talk about it in this vid) is that the Flowmotion totally invalidates what would otherwise be well-designed worlds. I would accept "you don't have to use it" if Flowmotion weren't sort of pushed as like, the primary gimmick of the game. I definitely concede that it's satisfying to like zip around rooms and go fast, but there are so many set pieces and platforming areas that are made redundant by it, which seems like a conflict in design principles. (I go into it a bit more in my Evolution of Motion video essay)

I loved it mostly but then I realized Aqua and Ventus become invincible if you mash evade. And that's not an exaggerated way of saying it's op - you like actually have invulnerability frames from start to finish once dodge is leveled up.. You can just stop a fight at any given time by mashing dodge; don't look at the screen at all and take a breath, have a snack, wait for an opening...it really borked up the otherwise hard fights for me. Borderline exploits aside, it's one of my favorites too though. Great characters, skill systems, cutscenes, etc.

    • @mizzix
      @mizzix Před 3 lety

@@SynCelestial that's why i don't dodge all that much, i prefer to block, especially because renewal block exists and it gives you free hp for blocking an attack plus you can use your counter move.

  • @herahbgad9061
    @herahbgad9061 Před 3 lety

I mostly agree with your placement but here's a few explanations ...
BBS gets criticized mainly because of Osaka team's tendencies for how they design their combat systems. Boss' not being able to stagger or have no revenge values can makes boss fights unnecessarily hard at higher difficulties. Surge attack commands are also pretty overpowered in the game since they give you lot's of invincibility frames so Osaka team didn't do a good job at balancing the commands either. The reason why BBS gets a pass for these flaws is because the game features one of the better level designs in the series and endgame content too. BBS for all it's faults had decent level designs which lend itself interesting platforming segments and level interactivity too. The waterways/vault in Dwarf Woodlands, Cinderlla's house , Maleficient's castle, entire worlds of Disney Town and Deep Space are all examples that shows Osaka team is more than capable of making competent level designs that were sorely lacking in most of the series.
DDD is rightfully just Osaka team being at their worst. Boss fights are even worse in this game and balloon commands are overpowered so they obviously didn't learn their fundamental flaws from the previous games. Level designs are just as bad as KH2 but instead of having hallways with treasure chests you now have big empty rooms with treasure chests so the flowmotion mechanics were wasted in the game.
Re:CoM's combat system wasn't originally designed by Osaka team which was arguably a plus considering that the team didn't have great design patterns when approaching combat systems at the time so the game remains devoid of most of the problems that comes from Osaka team itself. The level designs were repetitive and uninspired but at least the game came with a deep and reasonable combat system.
358 Days might have one of the better story in the series but it has the absolute worst combat system in the entire franchise since there's nothing creative about it and using magic was painful.
Re:coded has the opposite problem in that it has one of the best implementations of the command deck but it has an atrocious story. While the combat mechanics were good, the game didn't do a very good job of showing this since boss fights were ruined with bad gimmicks.

I definitely didn't want country of musketeers. But it ended up being a surprisingly enjoyable world mostly because of the presence of Disney slapstick. I Totally lost it when Mickey and Goofy defeat the Beagle boys by throwing themselves out a window, it was so random. I love it when that kind of action appears in Kingdom hearts. Especially if its Sora jumping around with his pants on Fire, he is such a goofball.

I really want to like KH 3D, but switching characters through dream drop is so jarring. I liked seeing new worlds like the Country of the Musketeers, The Grid, and Pransksters Paradise. And I’m so glad my favorite Disney. cartoon, Hunchback of Notre Dame, finally got some recognition with La Cité des Cloches. But how can you enjoy all that if you can’t even remember what you were doing last time I was playing Riku? Oh, that’s right: I was rubbing bellies to get stronger. Sigh.
On a side note, I’m surprised you didn’t buy Crisis Core: Final Fantasy for PSP. It’s practically the 358/2 Days of Final Fantasy, lol.

Riku part is by far the best bit of com. The worst part of the game, especially re:com, is grinding moogle points, and riku doesn't have to do that. The second worst part is being underpowered because your deck is too weak because you didn't grind moogle points, keading to fights that are too hard in a frustrating, unfun way. The third worst part of com is after you finally break down and grind points and make a custom deck with pre-ordered op slights and the game is trivialized and boring.
Riku not making his own decks solves all of that and makes for a much better experience with a sensible difficulty curve. You stay engaged, learning to make the most of the deck he has by actually playing the game instead of wasting time grinding & tinkering only to break the game in your own favor.
