Brilliant Mike, you have exactly my luck. You try to do something nice and you end up busting something. My windshield wipers froze to the windshield and when I turned them on the motor turned in the spline resulting in the wipers had to come off. I used a screwdriver as once the nut was off they wouldn’t budge. Ended up with the force necessary I broke the plastic surround 😮 so had to buy that . I found an actual puller that pulls the wiper off now so I don’t break the plastic. But loving this, as saw you scratched the plastic instrument binnacle ! That’s me too. Now I’m more experienced I now look at what can I do wrong that will break something and then ensure I don’t . So I come at it from that angle now. Love the video tho

Mike, next time when you want to disassemble a steering wheel, please contact me and I will support you. I worked in a Steering Wheel factory and disassembled a lot of wheels on my own. I will teach you the right steps, in order not to break anything anymore :P You were lucky to be able to put back those wires into the connector. Hopefully they locked in completely (the wires' crimps have some latches which during pulling them out, they bent, so only by unbending them back, you are able to lock them into the connector). But it may be possible that if those wires locked in only partially, to have intermittent function of the paddle shifter, so it means some error codes will pop up, and also you could have no up-shift function.

Aside from this, the wheel looks awesome man! Congrats! Definitely looking into CarbonTastic wheel now for my GTR 😜

When I was in college for automotive someone reach through the steering wheel to start the car and and the airbag deployed and blew their arm into pieces. Airbags are nothing to f with or take lightly how dangerous they can be.

Nice vid but if you are replacing electronic modules there are a few rules to follow with VAG:
First - disconnect the battery (no brainer - if the airbag deploys, you'll have to deal with bruises, broken fingers and/or broken hands). That first part is not VAG specific of course but their electronics are really sensitive and sh!t can happen.
Second - you need to code each new module using VCDS or similar tool to ensure it works properly. Most electronic modules have different variations (more/less functions and revisions over the years) and the car may not be able to use it properly or at all. Even if everything works fine, you may still get error codes stored because of not having the right coding for that module.

You allways say you are one lucky guy. This video just confirms it again :).
The best thing that you have done is that you took a brake and continued in the next day. That is what a lot of people should learn. For sure that prevented you not braking anything else.
You got lucky a couple of times. First - no airbag blown up. That would be a .... let's not go there ;)
Next - you where able to plug those wires back, man with your bulky hands and no tools - good job.
Third - you put the bolt, before the spring and locking the horn-airbag assembly. That saved your life again. Imagine driving without a bolt on. It's an idea for a "What if..." video!

Between the airbag light and potentially blowing the bag itself there's always a reason why instructions are written the way they are.
