I have the old (24V) version of this trimmer and it was amazing. However, I will not be buying the 40V version for two reasons. First, the only reason I'm not using the 24V version anymore is because the battery died and Ryobi discontinued the battery. I'm not going to buy a new unit every few years just because Ryobi changes the battery design. Even if they are going to a newer design, there's no excuse to stop selling batteries for their old stuff. The second reason is that the old version had a large handle to support the pole. Here you just have to grab the pole. If I use my old one that way, the thing flops around like crazy. It requires a lot more work to hold steady. Sorry Ryobi, but you lost a customer here.

Super happy with the results in your video. Thank you! I decided to get this model I just don't like dealing with the hassle of gas and I don't have a huge property. I'm mainly going to be using this for my Laurel hedge and Camellia bushes which this can easily handle. I already have a Black & Decker tremor which does really well however it's a pain to get up on a ladder and have to reach everything

Great review. Not only did you do an "unboxing," But you also showed the trimmer in action.
Def on my short list after seeing your video.

I've used mine twice and it started smoking today. Hoping ryobi replaces it. I liked it while it worked.

Hey great video. I got a weed eater and hedge trimmer from my neighbor he used it 3 times. The problem I'm having. I use either tool. For 30 minutes I don't have 3 dots. My battery is dead I have to pull out the gas weed eater or wait for battery to charge. Without knowing the price on the batteries I was happy with my purchase. But now I'm not impressed with the batteries ability to last more than 30 minutes. I love the weed eater and trimmer . Battery no so much

    Great review
I bought one and the strap isn't in the best location for counterbalance.
I was using to sweep low lying growth in the woods behind my house along with trimming above shoulder height and it was a work out..

Good demo, but I would have preferred to have you stand on ground to operate. Not everyone has a deck to stand on.

Just what I need for a BIG job this spring. THANKS!
Please chime in if you have this battery... can these batteries take a charge before being completely empty? If you keep topping the charge off, will it diminish the lifespan of your battery? I have a really big job and know I would want to fill the day with cutting without interruption. Plan to put it down only to clear the debris and plug it in to charge while doing that. Start again when I am ready, not necessarily when the battery is full. Is that doable?
Regarding the weed trimmer in this line, if you use it for edging (soil cutting) should one expect that resistance will lessen the charge/power over just cutting blades of grass? Thank you!

@A-ron The small 2 Ah however you write the power I could use about 3 times but now have three 4 Ah from the leaf blower, chain saw. They last all day as I do lawn care, yard work.

Anyone encounter problems when installing the hedge trimmer attachment to the power source? Mine sometimes it’s hard to put back in the shaft and won’t lock, takes awhile of twisting and pushing to get it to go in. Any solutions to this dilemma? Oil or something?

What do you recommend this one or the small handheld one. With no pole.

The bad thing about ryobi is that they don’t sell the pole only without the battery...i already have another hedge trimer by ryobi so i have the 40 volt battery....

Probably a great product, if you're willing to spend more on the extra parts to be able to use it. I sent mine back without even unsealing the box. Bought it off Amazon for £168, but I should have read the small print more closely because it doesn't come with the battery. Depending on the amp hours of the battery you buy, this will cost of further £100-£150. Then you will also have to buy a charger which can be anything from £70-£150. And all of this If you can work out which battery and charger you actually need.
So please be aware to use this product is going to cost you over £300, my personal belief this product is slightly misleading, at the bottom of the box is the word battery, then a small picture next to it of a battery with a line through it they should make it a lot clearer that you can't use this product straight from the box.
