#skincare #hairgrowth #hairloss #dermatologist #drdray Dermatologist Dr Dray discusses castor oil for hair growth. Does castor oil help with hair loss?
to anyone reading this right now, there may not be scientific evidence but it definitely does help lashes grow longer. i’ve been using it on my lashes for years and it’s helped tremendously.
@UCLh1kl-zcNLSXzdmMiRJXhA did you not read what the commenters wrote ? They said it worked for them they had picture evidence! Just because things aren’t scientifically proven i e big pharma doesn’t see a monetary incentive to bother with the research doesn’t make it not true.
@Vitamin Eee Yes and no. In the video, Dr Dray says that castor oil makes lashes look thicker, not longer. She never says that it cannot make lashes grow longer, only that it's not as of yet scientifically backed. Being a doctor, she can't very well recklessly recommend things based on anecdotal evidence alone. But we do know that castor oil has ricinoleic acid in it, which targets prostaglandin receptors. We also know that prostaglandins and prostaglandin analogues affect lash length (Latisse). So purely theoretically, applying castor oil to the skin at the lash line could act as a lash growth serum of sorts. Is there definite proof? No. Is there good reason to suspect that it could work? Yes.
I've only been using castor oil for my hair for like 5 days and my hair already looks much longer, I always brush my hair until it's completely straight and flat, and I've noticed last night after showering my hair got below my eye instead of staying a little above my lashes.
I can attest that it does work. I developed a bald spot about the size of a quarter and after using castor oil for a few months the patch filled in nicely.
Keywords, guys: “no scientific evidence.” That’s separate and apart from “science disproves/no correlation.” There is simply not enough research. This is one thing I’d battle a doctor on lol. I did not start seeing good hair growth in bald sections until applying Jamaican black castor oil. My hair was shaved down to my head at the time, so there was no “thickening effect.”
Another keyword that was omitted from the video, anedoctal evidence. This means that even tho science didn't prove castor oil can make your hair grow, people who've tried it have experienced growth. I used olive oil on my scalp for +1y with no great change, then switched to castor oil (plus almond oil) and noticed my hair was growing slightly faster. Could it be the moisturizing effects preventing my hair from breaking? Maybe. But it could also be the castor oil and we just haven't figured out yet how it works.
@@LlamaLynn24 I applied a very small amount to trouble areas and left it in. I have coily hair. If you have a looser texture, an hour pre wash treatment might work better. I’ve heard people have success with that as well.
Dr Dray. How about doing a test for 60 days to see if Jamaican castor oil increases hair growth on your head and report your results back. Do it for science? 😉
@@chozart88 the studies on this are extremely limited. From my recollection, there are less than 3, and the major one really focuses on hair matting. I personally don’t know how that’s enough information to take and simply “run with” (not directing this toward you; just the idea of concluding so much from so little).
I think it's important to make it clear that the lack of scientific evidence does not mean that it is not true. You say it as if the opposite has been proven, which is misleading and disingenuous.
There may be no scientific evidence but my sister used Jamaican black castor oil on her scalp daily and it was down to her butt! … speaking in past tense only because she decided to cut it short a few years ago!
My aunt is in her sixties and when she picked me up from the airport the first thing I noticed and commented on was her ridiculously long lashes to which she replied, "Castor oil, baby." I've sworn by it and use it nightly since.
@@southside_lullaby I just started using it myself. I put it on with a mascara spoolie . I also use it on my hair. I’ve made hot oil hair masks with it and my hair is like wow!! after 🤩 But I am all new to this, so I was curious about how it works. Thank you for replying!
Caster oil works like a charm, at first I had not a lot of eyelashes because I would rub my eyes a lot so. After using caster oil for less than a week I could tell a big difference. All I did was apply it in the mornings for school for 4 days and my lashes grew more. Also apply it were the lashes grow from.
I plucked my eyebrows so much when I was younger that I was left with almost nothing. The very few hairs left were so sensitive that were falling off at the smallest touch. I started using castor oil every night for the past year and a half. It is amazing what this oil has done to my eyebrows. They grew back almost the same thickness they used to be, plus now they're very strong. I can rub them as much as I want when removing make-up. Not even a single hair comes off.
I wonder if the results people see when using this are due to something other than a mechanism of stimulating growth, but rather by treating something that is *inhibiting* growth like mites or fungus. Perhaps the oil kills the mites or fungus and that leads to helping normal hair growth return.
Could be or just helping improve the health of hair follicles/skin barrier through moisture which in turn reduces stress, allows blood and oxygen to flow better….
I have hip length hair and castor oil has definitely helped me with the growth (not much with thickness though). Consistent use and dilution with lighter carried oils work wonders.
No shade or disrespect , we (black people) from all over have been using Black Castor oil for like forever. It’s not for your hair texture. It does wonders for our hair eyelashes eye brows. We don’t need “scientific research” to believe the results.
Hmmm. I have dry eyes. Nothing helped, until I started rubbing castor oil at least 3 to nights a week. Worked like a charm. I think all goes back to healthy habits of cleaning your skin properly. It's not meant to be put on during the day. Should be used at night and preferably wearing an eye mask. In the morning without scrubbing remove the excess.
I don’t know. I use during the day, and it’s definitely helping dry eyes, as well as my lashes, without any any irritation. An ophthalmologist suggested daytime use, especially since I don’t wear makeup.
