  • This is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland built and documented in 1797 but the undocumented records say at least ten years earlier which means it's a contender for the oldest distillery. It was built in the 'Valley of the Garioch' the breadbasket of Scotland. In the 'Granary of Aberdeenshire' the old town of Oldmeldrum grew around the distillery where Distillery Street passes through the distillery. This was where the best barley was grown in Scotland and it is also is the most eastern distillery in Scotland. So it has history, too much for me to add to a video but I did get some of it in. If you do not want the history and culture around these distilleries just scroll through the video to the review. King Charles, known to some Scots as the 'Duke of Rothesay', has a love for Scotch and pays a visit to Glen Garioch. I have grown fond of the 12 year old Glen Garioch bottling but got a chance to get my hands on the 3rd Chapter 17 year old and the 4th Chapter 18 year old which I am doing the review on. These 4 bottling's were called the Renaissance Series in 4 chapters aged 15, 16, 17 and the 18 years old. Glen Garioch has had some renown blenders through it's history with Morrison Bowmore (Now Beam Suntory). The famous 'First Lady of Scotch' Dr Rachel Barrie and today Ron Welsh. In the video I will have to correct myself. I mentioned Sandy Hyslop as one of the blenders that worked with Ron Welsh but that was prior to Suntory buying out Jim Beam and he now works for Pernod Ricard. My apologies. A lot of articles and videos do get out of date because the industry is experiencing a surge of growth and changes. Master distillers and blenders are constantly moving around in the industry as companies change ownership etc. I welcome your comments and enjoy the video. Sláinte

Greetings from Alberta. Quite pleased to see the 17 and 18 year bottlings below $100 here recently. I really like it and I’m a peathead. Great review

Great review! I'm hoping to get my hands on this bottle soon. I've tried quite a few Glen Garioch, and I've never been disapointed. My favourite so far is the 15yo sherry cask matured.

Thanks, I will keep working on that. I think every time I pour a dram of it I will have to say 'Glen Geer-eee'
