  • The world’s biggest luxury group faces a succession conundrum. Europe’s richest man, Bernard Arnault, has to battle global economic headwinds to ensure the longevity of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. He will leave behind a legacy to last generations, but one question remains: Who will sit on the throne once the king of luxury steps down?

    These huge family companies are wildly interesting. "Daddy" (it is often him) has to make difficult choices: he needs to balance family life and relationships versus what is best for the company, necessarily moving him towards showing a type of favoritism towards certain sons or daughters that are more gifted / more able to fulfill the tasks required. This in turn can lead to tension within families, which can be dangerous in its own right.
    For me, family companies under the guide of a good family culture are vastly superior to public companies that are just supposed to bend to the whims of outside shareholders. At the same time, they can go down under internal strife, which introduces a specific type of risk factor.

      @@shepherd4901 there will be 2 cases. Either spoilt brat cases and otyer 1 is just like parent, they want to stand high and may be ambitious and work hard for that position. May be it will be in genes. I feel delphine seriously works hard and frederic too but this frederic is super shy and introvert and values family connections. But I feel antoine is cunning, Alex is show off, jean is just that young one enjoying his rich life.

    I think about this company constantly. With all the fear still looming from a global pandemic, a luxury goods company majority stakeholder/CEO becomes the richest person in the world for a bit? Wild.

      The Luxury market is very specific. It does not work in the same way the non luxury markets work. For instance, in "regular" items, if prices increase, the demand tends to lower. In luxury items this doesn't necessarily work like this. A lot of times demand increases. Luxury, i think particularly nowadays is a lot about show off. so if it is more expensive, means that the person who owns it has a lot of money. its about exclusivity. Plus, people who make enough money to buy this type of products are also not affected by crisis and disruptions as the regular folk are.

    • @fchick
      @fchick Před 6 měsíci +4

      And the interesting thing is luxury is mostly preferred by middle class. Poor can't afford, rich don't mind. Middle class will always be wasting money on this for nothing. I can find better designs than these pieces in market but the brand holds value and celebrities go for this and they influence middle class much.. As long as these blind influence exists, luxury market will be valuable. Once middle class stops buying, the market falls super hard.

    I found it funny that Bernard thinks Apple isn’t a luxury company. Maybe he just doesn’t understand or just jealous that Apple makes a lot of money selling iPhones. The reality is Apple is a luxury brand. Almost every aspect of the brand follows the same playbook as LVMH and Kering. Notice how Louis Vuitton has been selling tech products? They know, it’s a market they wish they could enter. And I am certain that Bernard Arnault, if he had enough money, he would buy Apple. He is notorious for swallowing up anything that is luxury. But Apple is way too large now.
    Steve Jobs actually approached Bernard Arnault about opening an Apple Store. This is an indication that ever since Steve Jobs came back to Apple, his intent was to copy luxury brands. Tim Cook continued this plan, even hiring Angela Ahrendts from Burberry, and they redesigned all of the stores after she arrived to further position the brand as luxury. They’ve clearly succeeded.
    If you stop looking at Apple as a tech brand, and start to look at Apple as a luxury brand, a lot of things make sense.

    • @jonatasoares7496
      @jonatasoares7496 Před 5 měsíci +7

      Apple uses luxury strategies, but its product loses value over time, being replaced by a new version.
      Luxury products do not lose value, they are unique.
      Jobs was very clever in selling his products like jewelry which increased the perception of value, but Apple is a premium brand not a luxury one.

    When fashion actually does improve a persons physical desirability it can attract a greater range of potential partners. When luxury items are paraded for reasons of vanity alone it tells the world you might be worth stealing from and attract gold diggers male and female and maybe you're a bit of a try hard.
