I attended MJ and David’s hall of fame press conference, while MJ was swarmed by a crowd of 50 people, a 7’1 Robinson walked out of the hall of fame alone, unbothered by fans. I took this as an opportunity to shake his hand, I’m 6’4” 220, and this man shook my whole arm with one hand. I told him what and honor it was to meet him and that he was a major inspiration. He smiled, was gracious and very kind in our brief meeting. What an honor it was to meet a legend.

People forget how utterly freakish Robinson was. He could jump, and he could outrun guards, too. It was always fun to see the terror on their faces when Robinson chased them down. He brought the Spurs from being a laughing stock to relevance, all by himself. He deserves every accolade he gets.

Robinson is one of the most underrated players in history. He isn't considered a top 10 center by many but he absolutely dominated in the 90s. Easily averaged 25ppg 11rpg and 3bpg for the decade.

That defensive style of play takes a toll on your rhythm and shooting pulse, as well as energy. You are just soft like the players and the game today, where spread and stand is the name of the game. The best defensive play of today's game are just normal occurence in the 90's and 00's NBA. Yet despite that, no player in today's NBA can do night in and night out what prime Jordan, Kobe, WIlkins, Carter, Kemp, Hakeem, Robinson, and Shaq did.

I’m a Chicago native. I was a serious Bulls fan. But San Antonio used to kick our ass when we were in their house. Robinson was as great a defender as you could find in the league. They also had great coaching. It’s was always amazing competition going on our west coast trip every November. 👍🏿 I miss good basketball.

This is just one example of why MJ is the goat. He turns adversity into victory. He just wasn't intimidated by clashes with big opponents who played great....
He motivated himself to play better than the best. Robinson was by no means a slouch, but a great player who is still underrated today.

He was so much fun to watch. To see an arsenal of skills (not just because he's bigger and stronger). Left hand, right hand, in the paint, mid-range, 3-point shots...how many steals did we see! GOAT!!! AND, played all 82 games, with no rest management or excuses, even without Pip or Rodman. GOAT!

Watching that game, it's nuts to see how many big shots MJ was hitting in the 4th quarter and both overtime periods. Especially that 3 to tie the game after a missed 3 with seconds winding down on the clock.

It was never just one game when you grew up watching the Chicago Bulls every game that Jordan played was usually extraordinary.
As a Bulls fan, you always knew MJ was gonna take over the 4th qtr, and elevate to a whole nother level, and you could see his opponents just didn’t have it in them, and the exhaustion on their faces spoke volumes…I always put my money on the 4th qtr, because he was a guaranteed Clutch Man, no matter how many ppl you put on him, it only raised him to another level and to make matters worse, even the coaches were frustrated on the opposing team…I’m thinking the time he played with the flu…lmao…He went off anyway 🙏🏽💯…There are no clutch players that could consistently, take over a game, rise to another level, still play as a team player, for 48mins, and get any shot he wanted, ANYWHERE on the floor…🔥🔥🙏🏽💯
That’s what gets lost in the GOAT debate was how clutch MJ was. I’m not talking these new “clutch” stats they’ve come up with but it was that not only did bulls fans have the utmost confidence in Jordan his opponents knew that if it was a close game Jordan was going to pull it out.

In his later years he would pace himself but when they need defensive stops, he was just as clutch. For some strange reason, the greats seem to be in the right place at the right time and capitalize. You can't play defense in the modern era because everything is called a foul. Today's fouls were called "ticky tack" fouls when called back in the 90s because the attitude was LET THEM PLAY.
Go as far back as the 80s, some fouls could be career-ending, they were so rough, hence the introduction of flagrant fouls and still penalties.
The league had the right balance in the 90s and 00s. Now it's overcorrected the other way, to the point where the modern era is just a race track + shooting contest.

Little known fact: David Robinson, Hakeem, Chuck and MJ were actually pretty good friends. This was post back surgery David Robinson who was a shell of his former self unfortunately. You could tell that Mike couldn’t help himself and want to light up David that game. Tim was still young and not the player he later became but when Mike was on he so t going to be stopped. I was an intern at a local tv station back in these days in San Antonio and I saw a few of these games sitting on press row. Mike was seriously intimidating to everyone including the guys on press row. It was like god walking up when he checked in.

In that drive, both Jordan and Longley knew what had to be done. Jordan shoots early and anticipate the block shot threat, then pass it around and get it back to Jordan. Longley is very smart and gets to the right place at the right time.
Dream is my fav athlete of all time. The only person i felt could stop him or be at his level as a Center was Robinson. The Admiral was a great adversary to my Rockets in the 90's. When Jordan is on the scene you get the very best to test you! Damn i miss 90's Basketball!!

That's false. Robinson did not own Dream outside of the 95 WCF. And win loss records are skewered with Duncan taking over as the Spurs' best player in those victories. In a regular season meeting preceeding the WCF, Olajuwon put up a season high 47 pts vs SA. It's best to compare them from 90-96 when they were both healthy and not injury ridden.
It's more fair to say they had good battles.

It's better to bring up the 94 playoffs than the 95 meeting if one wants to talk about the 2 Centers. They both faced Utah and one Center dominated and the other performed poorly vs them.

David Robinson was incredible. I saw him play at the Alamodome back in 1998
Robinson was by many considered the greatest center of the game. And top NBA scouts noted that the absolute best of the best possible lineups would've featured Robinson at Center, MJ at G, Pippen at small forward, and who cares about the rest. But Robinson absolutely had super human-like talents on the hardwood. But MJ was still the machine that could not be stopped.
Spurs fan since 92'. I doubt many fans today would be aware how good Robinson was. But this video really shows how MJ is the ultimate dog. He really wasn't a great shooter, (that season 23% from 3pt, 78% FT), but the shots he made were so difficult and so clutch. He was always going for blood even if he was off that night. Rare to see players with that kind of tenacity these days.
But in the playoff all those numbers improves

Ok no hypotheticals. I'll put it like this. Jordan had slightly better stats than kareem while playing in a harder era, even after taking 2 years off in his prime. Jordan also averaged twice as many points as Russell while playing in a much harder era.

This season would be the last ever for that Bulls team as it was destroyed and never given a chance to defend their championship. The following year that Spurs team made it to the finals and beat the Knicks. This season also was much shorter due to the lockout which would have dramatically favored that Bulls team. Likely 4-peating for the Bulls and actually closing out the entire decade of the 90s would have been a such a more incredible scenario.
Early to Mid 90's Robinson was a monster culminating in his 71 point game and MVP in 1995. Robinson was quick and a big time shot blocker and had a unique set of skills to counter Jordan and Pipen's slashing to the hoop. Robinson's Spurs were the only team that held their own against Jordan's Bulls during that time, going back and forth in wins.

These videos still get me chills. I am 53 years old, I started watching NBA maybe 1984 or 1985, I watched all about it, all saturdays I was waiting for NBA Stuff with Ahmad Rashad. When MJ retired I also retired from watching basketball. Michael left the level too high, so it wasn't the same anymore.

Who is JEFF? Pippen book dont mean a damn thing. Jordan got more fouls called on him than many superstars and he was very aggressive on defense and took risk. He also attacked the rim putting pressure on defenders unlike many.

Imagine having to face Robinson and Duncan at the same time. Now imagine having to do that without Pippen and Rodman to support you. No wonder the game went to double overtime. Phil send their boys with knives between their teeth and the mission to defend, and omg how they did it. Two overtimes, and the score didn't even get to 90s.
