The Tammany is an awesome acoustic, and definitely a ton of fun to play :)

Sounds great! How did you record this? Was it the Fishman plugged straight-in or did you use a microphone?
Hi!
Here's how I set it up:
I always start by setting up a condenser mic 12 inches away facing the guitar's 12th fret.
It's my 12/12 rule. A person can tweak mic placement from there, but it's a great place to start :)
do people just approach you and ask you to evaluate or demonstrate their product? surely you aren't buying all this gear.
I like all the D'Angelico reviews you have been doing recently. It's a brand that gets overlooked by alot of reviews and I find them more desirable than a Gibson.
That's a great sounding guitar. Nice review Darrell.
Been watching a lot of your guitar tutorial videos and learning a bunch.
Well, now, just when I've convinced myself I don't have a need for another guitar, you pull this one on me, Darrell. It sounds beautiful, balanced tones, and a perfect compromise between a nylon classical vs steel string. Aesthetics are very pleasing.
Nice demo, Darrell, as usual. Acoustic-electrics are really my default choice, and have been for years. This one is gorgeous, sounds great, and I've always liked D'Angelico's Art Deco touches, from the stairstepped truss rod cover to the tuning knobs (and on this one, the bridge). I think you're spot-on about the neck finish, and I agree about the tone - balanced and usable - and a small body is always a plus for this player.
Excellent video Darrell. I really like your acoustic playing. Keep up the great videos!
Really Spanish and Classical like indeed my man! Awesome and adequate showcase as always my man!
The "Auburn" finish is especially gorgeous. Thanks for the demo.
Thanks for the demo Darrell, beautiful sounding acoustic and it looks like she's fun to play. Do me a favor and take down that Surf Green beauty, I don't want to have any more Tele-centric dreams.
Being a double descendant of St. Tammany, it was so miraculous finding this guitar, and a video with Darrel Braun. :) I've enjoyed many of your videos!
This guitar has a lovely open, clear sound - and would perhaps get even better over time as the instrument sound matures...
Pronounce it as though there were no apostrophe.
Nice sound. And as always, great playing Darrell.
Old Man Zen pronounce it like he does. Look up the company and listen to how they say it. Follow John D'Angelico. It is DEE Angelico.
Awesome demonstration. Thank You.
In my humble opinion, this video, like the other recent D’angelico videos, comes across as an infomercial. There should be disclaimers provided for these types of videos that stipulates the relationship, if there is one, between the parties. Is this a paid advertisement? Are they a paid sponsor? Was the instrument provided free or was it provided at a reduced cost? I believe a viewer should be provided this information, especially if they are using these videos for the purpose of a future purchase. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very professional video completed by a very knowledgeable and skilled person, which in my opinion makes it even more important to provide any relevant information.
The sound on that guitar while you were playing at the intro remind me the sound of the Portuguese guitar to play Fado a style of music
One of the most beautiful affordable acoustics out there.
Sounds so cool!
Sublime playing! Very nice guitar!
imo
really good vid about a guitar that deserves it
imo
Sounds awesome !
I'm ordering mine this week 👍
I WANT that guitarrrrrrr.
Awesome.
I like watching your acoustic videos (like the Godin). D'Angelico guitars are making nice guitars at reasonable prices. The style of the Tammany is a great looker; most guitars like Martins. It's unique. It sounds excellent for $800 with a new hardshell case. And, unique, again, made with Ebony. I liked the look of the saddle, it has seems they have made it with a router. I wonder how many are selling in the stores. I would guess that it has "curb appeal." Could you do a video for a Takamine soon? I played an EF TT and a Pro Series 3, and I thought they should be more expensive. It would be nice to see an in-depth review. I loved the Jim Adkins Fender/Gibson Tele....I guess I like unique stuff.
Would like to see you do a lot more acoustic reviews and comparisons in this under 1K price range.
Seems very cool for fingerstyle playing with a lovely bright tone, I might consider it as my next guitar! Plus, the D'Angelico headstock is stunning, it differs from the traditional acoustic guitars headstocks and it looks very great to me!
Sounds great. It sounds like there is reverb on the demonstrations. Did you do anything else with the sound in terms of processing within the signal chain? Just curious because that really influences the sound a lot!
Great video as always! I have a question Darrel. You always talk about straight headstocks and strings for better tune stability (e.g. tele vs LesP). Many acoustics don't have that (except for acoustasonic) and have tension in the nut. Can you please explain if this is relevant in acoustics too? Cheers from London
That's a great sounding guitar, especially for the soloing. How is the action on it?
Hey Darrell, sounds great! What are you playing in the fingerstyle section starting around 2:56? (And is it in your tab store?) I really like it.
Not a huge fan of the strummed sound, but fingerpicked and picked single notes....... wow! It sounds great! Hard to beat that sound at that price!
That’s the first acoustic I’ve heard on you tube that doesn’t cost thousands that has a really nice sound
Really? Then you haven't looked much lol
It does sounds nice and balanced with a typical (fairly high quality) OM sound!!...
I am impressed with this guitar
U made me want to listen lawson rollins man thanks
Hi very nice video, thanks.I would like to ask you if you know where manufacturing the guitar usa or China?
Hello, which is better option for take D'Angelico or Orangewood?
How would you stack this up against a top of the line orange wood?
Like this guitar but not crazy about the truss rod cover on the headstock
Darrell,
What do you think of the Yamaha FG-Trans Acoustics?
Great Vid... what is this for a scale in the Intro ?
Darrell, can you explain, maybe in a video, the basic question of why so few acoustic guitars do not offer cutaway shapes. It seems like few higher end instruments offer cutaways. It’s usually the cheaper instruments. Is it just tradition? Or is there a noticeable sound difference? So many times I find myself saying, “I would buy that acoustic if I just had better access to the upper frets.” Sigh.
Fender makes a travel guitar with a cutaway. With a small guitar body a cut away decreases the volume output significantly.
Hey Darryl! Maybe you could do a short instructional video on how to set the notch filter on acoustic/electric guitars for those who are new to them? Also, two questions: what software did you use to record this guitar, and what kind of effects did you have on the signal? Any reverb, etc.? Thanks, man!
Hi!
Great idea! I'll add it to my list :)
Just reverb and a limiter (so the signal doesn't distort) 😊
Cool! Thanks, man.
Sounds great. I just can't get by that head stock. It makes the guitar look oddly out of proportion. Superficial? Yes. A guitar's looks are very important to me in terms of enticing me to pick it up and play. Thanks for the video Darrell.
Kevin
Nice review like always 🤘.
A little question, what are your thoughts on ovation guitars?
Thanks for the amazing content!
Erwin Matthew Hoffmann De Alarcón I bought an Ovation Balladeer back in 1975 when they were still a pretty new company. I was very young, and I really bought into their claims about "the latest technology," and "designed to focus ALL of the sound out through the sound hole," and so on. I really should have spent a lot more time, playing a few in the store, but like I said, they were a new design and there just weren't that many around. Plus, I was just out of basic training and in tech school, so I just didn't have a lot of spare time...so I just bought it. And soon wished I had not. It just sounded weak, with no projection and very little to like in the tone department. Now that was a LONG time ago and things may have changed a lot...but I suggest you spend as much time as you can with as many of them as you can, in a music store, with many other actual wooden guitars as you can before buying one. You may LOVE them...or not. You may even own one now. They're not for everybody, but for some, they're the only guitar they like.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I've only played them a handful of times over the years. I'd like to try them again if I get the chance :)
I had one and I didn't care for how narrow the neck was at the nut and when playing seated it kept sliding off my leg, thanks to the rounded back. I traded it for an Ibanez electric.
I had an Ovation Custom Legend purchased in 1978 . Wonderful guitar with nice tone equivalent to a martin D18. It was stolen in 1984 at a gig I was playing at. I tried Ovation again to replace it, They are not the same anymore. I can't recreate the sound I had on the origional. Trying out the ones today, it is a brand to stay away from. All I have played look and sound terrible.
nice guitar indeed
Trouble is, Darrell, you make EVERY guitar sound great and easy to play, lol.
😂 Thanks!
what about the weight of the headstock? dose it affect the weight balancing?
I have a guitar like that with the same brand
It really does sound wonderful. I just wonder how much of it is you and your playing and equipment, and not the guitar. It is tempting. In my opinion, it sound like the Martin 000-28 modern deluxe at about 20 percent of the price.
Darrell, please - don't go down the all-sponsored-content road. You're one of the few good and trustworthy MI channels remaining. I've watched virtually all my favorite content creators turn into career spokespeople once they hit that 100K mark. WHAT DOES IT PROFIT A MAN TO GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD YET FORFEIT HIS SOUL?
Good playing. The headstock looks very big . Is it neck-heavy?
Thanks!
It balances perfectly on a strap - no dive. On my lap it does it I let go of it :)
Nice acoustic sounds sweet.hey Darrell any chance you can do a video on how to take the gloss off the back of a guitar neck.and make it satin and faster playing.thanks
Tom Shultz just sand it with steel wool buddy that’s what i do with my guitars
I'll add it to my list :)
i like it, but what does it sound like when you record with the piezo, not a microphone?
I just clicked off the intheblues flying V live clips video with you in the comments section
Hi!
It sounds great!
This fishman is one of the most popular preamps that manufactures use.
@@oldpcgamesmvp9774 i like to listen to good guitar players on youtube
Is the sound that we are hearing being produced through an amp?
No
Put that guitar in the trunk of your Duesenberg Model J and head to the gig!
What brand strings does it come with ?
D Angelico or Taylor?
Hi, where do they build it? China? Korea? Indonesia? Thanks in advance. Regards
All D'Angelico acoustic guitars are made in China. They're electrics are a different story, which varies based on price range.
Can anyone recommend a THINLINE type acoustic guitar with a body size of OM or smaller that plays and feels more like an electric guitar? Some of the ones I've been looking at (online so far) are the PRS SE Alex Lifeson Angelus, Yamaha APX500III was kinda thinking about the Fender Acoustasonic but it's too much like a electric guitar and it's just butt fugly.
this comment was a year ago, but if anyone is reading ibanez has a thinilne. AEWC32FM
Beautiful guitar! What’s the beginning song
Thanks!
Just a jam I put together for the video :)
Well, it kills, how about a tutorial?
You are like a black Jimi Hendrix , awesome!
Darrell dAngelico or guild ??
Sounds good... I just couldn’t buy that headstock
What is with alot of guitar companies installing the guitar strap on the neck? To me definitely a downer on an otherwise great guitar.
I meant to put guitar strap button on the neck.
Wouldn't it have been better if this guitar had a cutaway? For the way you've been playing... doing so much fingerstyle, I mean this guitar is very good for fingerstyle, and this full body shape has limitations as you cannot access the higher frets...
Just blindly bought one. Hope its worth it
How was it if you don’t mind me asking
@@anthonysuarez7905 well worth it, got one used, extremely impressed
@@nickc4257 just ordered mine hopefully it’s as good as the hype 😎
When D’Angelico started his company was building acoustic guitars?
Yes he did
Dan-gel-ico.
216trixie No, he said it correctly.
@@rexgoliath4032 it's an Italian name, so the correct way to pronounce it would be Dan-gelico
Check out the company, John D'Angelico or anything to do with them. It is DEE Angelico.
Are you sure the back and sides are ebony? Looks like rosewood to me.
Specs say they are.
To be honest I think a Orangewood for around the same price is a better guitar!
It says New York on the headstock and case, but it's made in China. Hmm!
Why in this day with better options available would they still cut a hole in the side of the guitar to put the electronics? It's not only ugly but totally unnecessary.
The new design is just rubbish !!. Im so mad because of what is happening with D'Angelico right now, I was a huge fan of the old design imperial/art deco style/block inlay guitars, all that fancy look.. Was thinking about buying my 3rd D'Angelico, but I will never, NEVER EVER buy a "new design" D'angelico .. where is their split Headstock ? where are the block inlays? the ebony fingerboard is replaced with some cheap material, the soul of their guitars is gone, now you cannot tell a difference between a cheap aliexpress guitar, and new D'Angelico design guitars... they hired the wrong person, or something is going terribly wrong with their vision.. The old look was what really made them stand out out of hundreds of brands
And the award for ugliest headstocks: D'Angelico
