I lived in Alice about 25 years ago. It was on the downhill then. I'd never go back. The town was lovely. The day folk are mostly good, but the mobs of first nations youth are bloody scary. I was called so many racist names and given so many threats just because I wouldn't hand over money. What amuses me, in the case of Alice Springs, is racial profiling not a consequence of one group of people acting out? If it was another race acting out, would they be called out and outed, yes.
what if the only people out committing crimes at 3am were from the communities? That wouldn't be racial profiling then.... that would be criminal act profiling.
Ferals 🤔
I left 20 years ago, yes it was a great place to grow up but sadly gone down hill. 😢so sad to see 😢😢😢
That shirt, the way the young lady came up and gifted it to you, awesome. I'd rock with one of those shirts, awesome to see someone doing positive things for themselves and sharing their culture.
Gifted oh my god you're such a Google sheep
The drinking ban is not about racism!! Most elders support the alcohol ban. Check what goes on to small children in some of those communities, the ban is to save them.
May not be because of racism but they are definitely racist, I’m not even from there and I was rejected by at least 4/7 shops I tried to shop at
It may not be a racism thing but it's definitely a control thing before you know it one rule for all of Australia
The most dangerous city in australia has alcohol restrictions? What are the chances?
100% bro
Your one of those one's that listened to John Howard's bullshit about paedophile rings they had such a problem with in those communities And thought it was reasonable to rashen their water usage in remote communities...
I think it is important for people who have no idea about Indigenous communities to understand what is a “dry community”. If you live in a “dry community” , the community and the elders have CHOSEN not to have alcohol. If you live in this type of community you are not supposed to drink, you cannot have alcohol in the community or bring it in. You are not supposed to go out of the community and then go back in, drunk. The way it is being portrayed here, for whatever reason, is very disingenuous. The locals are not telling the full story.
I loved Alice Springs. Now I’m glad my family moved out. It’s heartbreaking.
Yes agreed, it's not for racism but family lore and custom. No drink or drugs strong spirit
Yes, it's a bit one sided, unfortunate!
I was thinking the same thing. It’s a bit disappointing to see the young ones disrespect the elders rules.
I never knew that. I genuinely thought it was entirely the government's decision.
Fully. The government lifted the bans and the elders pleaded until they were put back on.
I wish to God everyone could read your comment
A two week curfew for under 18s (must remain indoors, at home or a safe place, from 6 pm to 6 am) has just been declared in Alice as well. Shows really how bad the situation has gotten.

@@shereepfeiffer6356Listen, I don’t mean to sound like a bigot, but what ethnicity are these people? The comment about chess reminds me of a few groups
@@bayersbluebayoubioweapon8477 oh, we old folk brought in the board games and musical instruments, dvd's etc to share, and people gave us food for the kids and juice drinks etc. It was mainly Kiwi's against Aboriginals and some whites (especially in the very young like 12yo's who were having sex and smashing shop windows). If you gave them a DVD player they would smash it in the middle of the road. Probably took it off the kid who did want it. Twirl their scooters all through the place. Steal things like digeridoo's but then have a war and bring it back to us. Girls would come in screaming and covered in bruises and sit right up the back with me, with a few big hefty men up in front. One big volunteer we had was an ex con so he was great. We also had a preacher who knew Aboriginal elders etc'. I was a musician but good at yelling and getting kids to behave a bit. We also had the kids who would talk to the groups and tell them to settle down, like gang bosses but they were too loosely organised to call them gangs. More like friend groups with enemy groups. One white kid was truly evil all on his own but he also had followers. Some were gentle souls who had to get out of the house for the night. All different, good and bad, even within all races and types.

Regarding aboriginal housing; nearly forty years ago I lived and worked along the Darling River.
My first week there I was driving outside of Bourke with a few workmates when I commented on the appalling state of the aboriginal housing that solicited a few wry grins and shakes of the head.
One of the older guys said "See these houses?" pointing at a group of smashed up houses with yards that looked like small garbage tips. [Why it was pleasing for me to see that the residents of that Alice Springs camp obviously take care of their homes and yards]
My colleague shared that he had helped to build those houses just five years prior.
The aboriginal occupants had destroyed their own brand new homes, then had the gall to bleat how they lived in deplorable conditions.
Government can't keep throwing money at indigenous issues. The aboriginal people must be part of the solution for there to be any chance for positive change.

I lived and worked in ALice back in 2021, with Stumpz for a while actually. I can confirm the guy is solid as a rock and such a good guy. I have never been in a place like Alice where I have felt so unsafe in my entire life, even as an older guy that has been in scuffles (by no means a fighter) I was legitimately petrified at some of the things I saw and experienced. In saying that there are so many beautiful people up there and I will be back to visit.
Incredibly honest portrayal. He speaks about royalties (those guys are smart), he visits town camps, he speaks about pay back and calls it out as an eye for an eye. The highlight is seeing Alice at night, completely raw. Even spanian is warry and can't believe what he is seeing. He misunderstands the banned.drinkers register. He is right to point out it is discriminatory but does not realise it is actually the local elders and communities that want to be dry. A must watch for anyone interested in the territory
I bet all the women and children who get bashed by drunk partners love the banned drinkers register. As someone with an alcoholic father who grew up in a very similar neighborhood in the late 80's early 90's during the recession, alcohol is literally the Devils Piss. Alcohol should be banned Australia-wide. This country has a drinking problem. Unfortunately, indigenous people are prone to alcoholism in the same way pacific islanders are prone to diabetes - their bodies simply aren't conditioned to it as Europeans have been for thousands of years, same as Islanders with high sugar foods. Anyone who has lived in areas with lots of indigenous folk for long periods of time know that all too well.
He’s only going off what he’s being told by the people showing him around. There’s no houses in Sydney with alcohol banned signed so of course he’s going to be spinning out. I remember the first time I went to Alice in 2004
hmm
The BDR exists for a reason, its not racist its harm minimisation
@@robo_au2004 Alice was a nice place. 2024 they destroyed it.
Showed this to my Year 9 class today. A group of boys that usually can't stay still for 5 seconds were glued to the screen and we had a big chat afterwards about how the role of police changes in different parts of Australia, why so much violence exists in the NT and what could be done to stop it. Thank you for what you do - big fan!
I guess it's good to discuss these things. I think we need to get back to basics, enforce the laws, don't pussy foot around just because people are from a minority group etc. There was a shocking lack of policing going on in that video. They only showed up at the very end.
@@KM-pq7sr The problem is they can't enforce laws. Police have had most of their effective powers stripped, they are so undermanned that it is a miracle you saw a police officer in the video at all. No-one wants to be a cop in the Territory after the Rolfe case because, even though he was found not guilty (and according to every standard for use of force, every single shot he took was justified because his oppo was being actively stabbed until AFTER the final shot), and it's even put off other Commonwealth armed law enforcement who are under NT jurisdiction (AFP, Border Force, Defence Force - NB, Defence and Border Force are both armed law enforcement on the northern Australian border, but NT based assets actually fall under NT coroner jurisdiction if force is used) from wanting to deal with potentially violent jobs up here because of the utter feeling of betrayal and lack of support when force is required. Especially after the coroners court has basically argued the opposite of what the criminal court found. And, even if force is effectively used and the suspect detained, 99.999% of the time they'll be back out the next week doing exactly the same thing, so why even bother? It's much easier just to let people destroy each other than it is to enforce laws that won't be backed up by the government or the courts. Peace stopped being a part of the Territory years ago - it's just taken this long for other people to realise the fact.
You are a good teacher. Used to work in a state school in QLD and saw too much trashy stuff and nonsense teachers introduced to students. Keep up your great work. THANK YOU!
This gives me hope in the education system.
This should be shown to high school kids.
It opens so many political and socioeconomic discussions that kids usually find dull and boring.
Brilliant teacher.
Thankyou for your service to our future leaders, bless you 🙏
@@sa25-svredemption98 I take your point. It's going the same way in parts of the US and UK. Police are resigning in their droves because the system seems to be against them now. It's not worth risking life and limb to enforce the law when you may end up in jail yourself just for doing your job.
But the anti Police agenda seems to mainly come from the left wing. Just look at the mess they made in Portland Oregon with the anti Police agenda.
I had abit of scary do when leaving Alice Springs.. Me n a lass drove out of Alice n filled up at first gas station, with our life in our car.. not long after, a car with blacked out windows drove along side us..then took off.. it was pulled up around a bend on the left..there was a guy stood out of the back door, telling us to pull over..they were 3 guys in the car.. i didnt bother, then the car set off at speed following us.. i ended up flooring my old 2.2 suberu to get away, but couldn't really pull away, this went on all the way to near Tennant Creek.. by that point, i has slowly pulled away, at the same time not blowing my engine..it had dark too,.and was a relief to see their lights slipping further back.. we missed the Devils marbles too..gutted we had to shoot right past them..we ended up pulling into Tennants Creek and waited at a big gas station, before camping in a compound..god knows what would of happened if our car had let us down! I had just recently put a new radiator on it, by myself, so was dreading it was guna blow again😅
I feel a lot of love in your heart. Thank you for your insights into places I would never have the courage to visit. God bless, Anouche.
I had a friend do a stint as a copper in Alice. He said it was pretty common advice for people visiting that "If you hit someone on the road in the middle of the night, don't stop to check. Call the cops and drive to the police station. If you get out your car you'll probably be killed or seriously injured by friends/family of whoever got hit." I was a bit skeptical... but seeing this... I dunno man. I could see that shit happenning pretty easily.
Yep
Ive seen it happen, the driver was a security guard and was lucky enough to have backup arrive very quickly. The woman who was hit was chased onto the road by a fella with a stick, he turned on the guard blaming him when it was clearly his own fault.
Bit of context, it was night time and the two had been chasing each other up and down the road yelling abuse and throwing things at each other. The police had been called but as is usual it can take several hours for them to get around to attending.
Common advice for any third world country (Nicaragua, Guatemala, etc.)
I have hit 2 on my motorbike in Alice. Both at night. Went straight to the police station and reported it. Was never charged as both were blind drunk.
Having experience of life in the outback, I would agree. I had a friend that lived her whole life in Mt. Isa, she was driving home one night and there was a wake at the hotel outside of town. A brawl broke out and spilled onto the road, unfortunately she hit someone, didn't hurt them in any way, but they pulled her out of the car and bashed her within an inch of her life, she was 69 years old. She spent months in the hospital trying to recover, she never did. She no longer felt safe living there as nothing was done and no charges pressed. I know from first hand experience having gone through a stabbing in Sydney involving and indigenous person, she stabbed her partner 7 times with 5 different steak knives, she got a 3 month good behaviour bond.... go figure. I was advised by the Police that if she was white she would have spent at least 15 years in jail. They wonder why we don't treat them as equals.

Yes well those kids don't get to see real Aboriginal people in the media or on social media or anything like that, they're never the ones making the decisions it's always people of mixed blood so of course the only people they see that looks like them are the African American gangsters . Wow, fantastic expose there Spanian. I am a travel nurse, I was submitted for a contract in Alice. Glad I didn't end up going through with it. I think my heart would break each day having to deal with all the stabbings, assaults rampant alcoholism and a city at breaking point. Too much for this gentle soul.
You actually missed out. My time at the hospital there was the highlight of my career.
All sorts of injuries come through the Alice ER such as star picket stabs, axe wounds while my mother was working it as a nurse an aboriginal woman came in with a headache turns out her sister stabbed a kitchen knife in the top of her head and snapped off the handle. The blade was through the roof of her mouth and somehow survived.
I am so sad to see what has happened to the Alice over the years. I lived in Alice and worked at the TV station just behind Todd Mall from 1996-7 and I would finish work when the TV station closed transmission (1-2am in the morning) and walked the 1km back to my home, bought things from the Coles (open 24h/day) and did not feel unsafe at any time during those 2 years. I worked alongside Aboriginal people that I had a great respect for and valued their abilities and dedication to the work we did.
I visited for 2 nights in 2017 and it had changed so much. It wasn't even quite like the video, but I could see the transition to the lawless town it has sadly become now. The video shows me how everything has deteriorated since my last visit. It used to be Tennant Creek had the bad reputation and The Alice was better, but it may be the situation is now reversed.
It's sad to c the decline & lack of resources & help. Unfortunately Tennant creek is still as bad, probably worse. There r even fewer resources & less people out there trying 2 fix the problems that lead 2 hopelessness & violence. TC is basically just a stop off 4 fuel 4 most people. People don't usually go there 4 holidays like they do Alice so there's even more lawlessness cos cops r focused on the Alice or elsewhere.

I think it's a subconscious call for help... Even if they don't realize that themselves, they look up to someone who has experienced what they have in life, but has also learnt from their "school of hard knocks" and decide to change and move out of that. It's definitely something to look up to, like an addict whom kicks their addiction. It's a hard path to walk and it's why we aspire to be like those who have already walked it.

Every Australian needs to watch this video. If this was going on in a major city, it would dealt with extremely quickly. Because it’s happening in such a remote location, most Australians don’t even know about it.
You can’t deal with a mentality
You ever been to the valley, or King St, or Hindley St late on a Saturday night?! Reckon it's much different.
I live in a regional town where nearly 10% of the residents are indigenous. If the groups gathering and having wild brawls were white, the police would make arrests. If the groups were indigenous, only the most violent of the perpetrators would be arrested. Police have told me that they are under instructions to go easy on indigenous people, for fear of being labelled racist.
Can't be harsh or you'll be labelled racist
It was on the news about 5 months. Current affairs, news etx just how out of control it is. They tried too put curfews in place
The camps are really just Neighbourhoods. As far as the fencing goes, that is everywhere. Great eyeopener, similar to some of the towns over here in the west.
What should be not normal, no matter where you are is drunk young kids out in the street at 2am.
Just found this channel, lived in aus for a couple years now, and this guy is the most Australian sounding guy I've ever heard😂😂😂
I was raised in the projects in Russia during the Soviet Collapse, then got adopted and then put in the group home after living 3 years with the adoptive family, and the dumbest thing I witnessed living in these type of neighborhoods is young dudes willing to die for a block they dont own
What do you mean when you say "young dudes willing to die for a block they don't own"...cumn from Russia ur knowledge of Aboriginal culture and Traditional Lores clearly ain't sumthn ur aware of... and Russia was never invaded by another country or Nation.... my people the Aboriginal people of this country have been here for thousands and thousands of years and Traditional Lore at Alice Springs is very much alive unlike most parts of Australia where many of my people have lost their languages and traditional customs and Lores thx to colonization.... therefore there is so much difference between ur experience than wotz going on with my people.... much respect to ur people and ur country but u cannot compare wotz happened to my people since colonization to anything u may have experienced in ur Motherland...as THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY ALL OF AUSTRALIA IS OUR MOTHERLAND.... that we have lived upon for thousands and thousands of years and our connection to our land is probably the same as it's in Russia

I do have hope though, as my daughter's generation have compulsory education - her and her peers are proud and respectful of the Aboriginal culture. Many older Australians still have this ignorance as you read in these comments. A lack of comprehension of the dispossession and abuse .
Also you have many Indigenous -women especially - Amy McQuire, Chelsea Watego , Melinda Mann ( to name a few) rising in writing and academia .

Then don't sell drink...if its such a problem nobody should be earning..everybody goes a bit mad on the drink once or twice in there life but I'm pretty sure sober folks can go just as crazy if push them but bottom line it's human rights too consume that's what laws are for if you break the law u go court but banning people will only store up anger beetween diff groups..you think they can't make own booze easy enough it's easiest thing in the world...but letting one group drink n others not is only gonna cause tension should treat all the same...
It’s actually because aborigines can’t process alcohol properly. Their bodies digest 1 unit per 4 hours whereas most other people digest 1 unit an hour.
Most people do alcohol kills so many brain cells it's a depressent
Aboriginals can’t process alcohol properly
The truth in one sentence. It is also a loaded, politicised racial topic...but basically it boils down to an attempt at harm reduction for everyone. Which is a good thing.
Back in Covid I travelled around Australia and the camps and Alice Sorings was the biggest culture shock even travelling around the world nothing compares I accidentally ended up in a camp barely anyone spoke English but in the camps people where so friendly Alice Springs was so sketch left straight away haha
Wow the timing of this video though.... I saw it in my feed before the riot and now it has a much different tone watching it back

Should have had a guide on both sides tho.. this is called embedded reporting, look it up. The fact that he's white doesnt look like he represents the white community in Alice at all.

There is VERY good reason they limit alcohol in those areas.
It's based on a person's address & if they have somewhere 'safe' 2 drink it. (ie, out of sight.) It applies 2 others (travellers not just homeless) without an 'appropriate' address. They didn't go into any of that tho. It basically comes down 2 racism. If u haven't lived there u wouldn't notice how invasive it is. Honestly man spanian has shown at LOT more than any news channel or networks within Australia. Going in and documenting EVERYTHING about these towns is doing way more than any other news channel.
Doing what exactly?
Yep, the media in Australia is all controlled by the left, so they will never show the aboriginals in a bad light. Hence why we never hear anything about it in the mainstream media.

It is significantly worse now, but the streets were never safe at night - not for women at least.

Spanian, i was impressed son. Well done of what you are doing. Proud of you.
What do you mean? What did he do that you were so proud of bra? All he did was glorify alcohol and violence and bemoan the tactics implemented trying to stop all the drinking domestic violence and crime, as racism.
I use to live in Alice Springs for almost 10 years and funny enough Dane was my old house mate and a family friend! The first few years of living in Alice, in my experience was good. Didn't have any issues with getting broken into, up until my last year of living there. Got to the point where my anxiety would rise when leaving the house for work. The fights and crime got worse each day that goes by and it was scary. It's sad that the media doesn't show and explain what truly happens in that town. I hope that something good will happen for Alice to shine once again.

Before you go around undoing the injustice handed out to indigenous people in Alice Springs Town camps by buying them booze as they are "discriminated against" you need to understand why these rules are in place and who made them.
The rules are in place to minimise domestic violence against women and children and to minimise sexual assault against children in the camps as behaviours are very negatively affected when people in these camps are under the influence of alcohol.
The restrictions are requested by the leaders in the camps (e.g. elders) and are then enforced by police aids.....the rules were not made by "white man" as a means of discrimination.
Before you make judgement, you need to have an understanding as to why and how certain practices came into being.
Example - if you have ever driven around the communities, you will notice many items are on the roofs of the houses, (stones, sticks, chairs, bikes, etc)......why?........when a fight breaks out the women go around and chuck these items onto the roofs as they cannot then be used as weapons by the people fighting.
I worked and lived in Arnhem Land, Alice Springs, etc for 15+ years.........and have some idea why things are the way they are........if you have NO understanding then don't try to change it.
Crazy to think that I've lived for 40 years in this country and don't know a fraction of what's going on in it because the only source of information was from mainstream media and the news. It took relatively unknown CZcamsrs like Spanian and Avi Yemini to travel around, get amongst it and show the real stories. RIP mainstream propaganda!
More that Alice Springs is a huge outlier.

We know what happened it was never this bad. Everything changed when the police went woke. Now kids as young as 9 or 19 are wandering the streets at night. Kids are not going to school either which is illegal but natives get a pass.
