  • Today I picked up this neat new water testing 'kit' from Afishionados my local tropical warehouse. They just imported an incredible new line of aquarium products to Canada from one of the huge players in Europe, JBL.
    The JBL Proscan water testing kit uses a downloadable app on your smart phone that is 100% free. The test kit retails for under $40 Canadian and the refills are even cheaper. So a super affordable European made quality Aquarium Test Kit = GAME CHANGER!
    It gives not only a very detailed analysis of your freshwater water chemistry but also suggests products and methods to solve any water parameter problems that may occur.
    This is truly an invaluable tool in maintaining a healthy thriving home aquarium and so easy to use for the beginner to the most advanced aquarist.
    Thank you kindly for watching and supporting my on my aquatic adventures.

    I love your 75 gallon!! What a beautiful slice of nature 😍
    This is really interesting 🤔
    I had heard about a digital water tester, but this was cool to get to see! Technology is fascinating to me, although I don't know a lot about it 🤣 I'm tickled that I know how to use my phone 🤣 All this incredible stuff that you can do with it though.WOW!!
    The price point isn't bad on this,
    it measures the CO2 😳, and really seems very easy to use. This would be really helpful for beginning Aquarist and even for people wanting to try to keep some different types of fish. I like it Chris! I will have to check around to see if it's available here. Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed weekend! 🙏🌿🐟🌿💚

    This is fascinating Chris! Interesting that they also measure CO2! Thanks for sharing! P.S. I enjoyed the livestream from a few days ago!

    Thats awesome! Im not really good with distinguishing color shades so this is perfect. Also, the graph and tracking over time is great. Can you track more than one aquarium with this? Also, did you encounter any issues after using it for a longer time?

      Still works great, no issues at all honestly. I use it on all my aquariums

    Great review - hurray Canada 🇨🇦. Love what you said about an aquarist’s responsibility to the tank inhabitants. Was the shirt choice ironic, then? 🤣

    It seems a lot like the My Aquarium thing from tetra, but a little more involved and *hopefully* more accurate. I don't mind the tetra test strips, but the app is pretty bad. It seems like that card that you lay the strip on to take the pic, makes all the difference. The c02 thing is cool though.

      I can honestly say my expectations were exceeded. Having come from a lab atmosphere in my younger days...We as aquarists do not need lab grade tools for keeping tropicalfish. Deciphering the information and truly knowing the ramifications of the test are lost on most. Aquarium fish for the most part are very resilient beings. and truth be told an aquarium regardless of size is not generally the best environment. But on the other hand with the continued decline of wild or native habitat for flora and fauna perhaps a healthy appointed aquarium is a suitable replacement.
      cheers!

    Why didnt they add ammonia to the test strips? seemes important if you ask me.now i have to get another test kit just to test for ammonia?

    Seems a great idea but not very accurate I tried this product and didn’t like it , test can vary so dramatically as it depends on the photo and your camera on phone , also lighting has a lot to do with it , you can do a test and then do another one 5 mins later and get a completely different result , great idea but not for me very inaccurate

      @themadaquarist  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m in 100% agreement. At first I was excited about something new embracing technology like this but it is far from accurate. The same tank tested four times in a row gave vastly different results.

    How can carbonate hardness be ideal at zero? When nitrifying bacteria uses carbonate hardness to live and your PH wont be stable without carbonate hardness.

    • @themadaquarist
      @themadaquarist  Před 2 lety

      I’ve come to not be a fan of this kit as I can do four test on the same tank an hour apart and get vastly different readings. It went into the bin!
      Nothing will be a good quality drop test… quality being the key.

    So is the card purely for color calibrating the app?

    • @themadaquarist
      @themadaquarist  Před 2 lety +1

      As our eyes each perceiving colours differently also dependant on available light the card acts as a consistent benchmark for the app to give a truer reading

    As so many, even you, later on say this test not accurate, you should remove the whole video. Or at least pin the fact: the test aint good! I guess you to much of a jbl friend. So sad so many giving bad info and with that ruin many peoples fun having an aquarium. The video got for sure i BIGG dislike from me.
