Basically in Belgium this is now totally forbidden to have a vent for the tumble dryers. Water should be collected in a reservoir inside the dryer or be expelled through a pipe. Lint is collected in the inside filter on each cycle and if you don't, the dryer goes on error mode when too full. For the ones still using a vent, insurance companies do not cover damages if they can prove vent was not properly maintained and created a fire. Edit: I have now precised a country to avoid misunderstanding and miscomprehension 🙂
We have a lint trap (filter) inside the dryer that you remove from the drum portion and clean with your fingers. Manufacturer recommends this be cleaned every time before you push the start button. I even clean multiple times if I am drying a heavy load such as towels or jeans. A lot of people do not do this. Also, go outside every so often to clean the outdoor vent exit.
Not really. It’s moving air, height won’t have much effect on it. And the particles are suspended mid air so no matter how long or what direction the pipe goes. I suppose a smaller tube out the side would be less shit getting trapped on the walls but that besides the point.
Before watching these shorts I didn't knew venting a dryer out to the roof is even a thing. Nobody that I know of has this type of system, we remove that stuff from special compartments of the dryers
I'm glad we have ppl like you to help out ppl in need! I would never be able to do your job I'm allergic to dust and just seeing how bad some ppls vents get makes my nose tickle
Yeah all of our laundries are usually in the basement up here in the Northeast and they went right out of the side of the house. I think it would be beneficial to have the shortest route possible and going out the roof just seems a little overkill. More surface area for debris to collect on.
I worked as a tech support for LG appliances before. We have manuals for all these error codes. This brings back memory. There’s a lot of people out there who don’t regularly check or clean their vents, the lint traps, gaskets, or use too much detergent and fabric softener which causes buildup and leads to funky smell and leaks. 😆
My house that was built in the 50s had builders with actual brains. The dryer lint exit was installed on the floor leading to the outside with a protective cover that wouldn’t allow critters to climb in. I removed it to improve efficiency, never had to clean it or a problem with it. I will say though, I often have to broom Outside but hey, no fire 🔥 burn my house down!!!
I will never understand how people don't get that that needs to be cleaned out once a year. If you empty the lint trap in your dryer every so often you would think it would be common sense.

Ceiling vents are the worst. I've had to clear a few at my job and the fact they not only are much longer, but have to fight gravity makes me wonder what some people were thinking when designing some buildings.
Don’t use dryer sheets folks. They add a waxy type layer to the lint and it makes it so much easier for it to stick together and block your exhaust. You still need to do regular proper maintenance but it will make it so much worse.
