My house has about a 3 foot or less vent to the exterior wall and it would be easier to clean it myself rather than hire a company. But in other neighborhoods, like the one he is in, most homes are built the same and require almost the same maintenance. It makes sense to start a business based on how homes are built and what needs to be maintained/fixed regularly.
@c3h8O Not true, lint still goes by the lint trap and collects as it goes down the vents. I have always told clients when I delivered a new dryer to get your venting cleaned yearly. one of the biggest causes of house fires.
I cleaned mine out by hand a few weeks ago. It was only a few feet long, but man now I want one of those drill attachments! It works like a dream now, I can dry a load of towels in one cycle. I'm pretty stoked about it. Shit, I must be old now.
cleaned mine out when dryer wasnt working.cant believe how much crap was in there Edit: many people let that stuff buildup in there. It makes the dryer work harder, causing undue stress on the parts. And waaaaay to many people are overusing fabric softener, for crying out loud, please stop using so much. That's why your clothes take so long to dry. I run my clothes on medium heat level for 45 min on my cheap dryer and they come out dry, towels and all. When I moved into my apartment, I asked them to clean it out, they bs'ed me and said I couldn't do it myself, so I climbed up on the roof and did it anyways. When they confronted me, I told them I can call the fire Marshall and get an inspection for their fire extinguishers, and to see if their smoke alarms are up to code. They left me alone after that.
Nice job from outside. Very important to wear a respirator when dealing with the amount of bird residue that would be in there- birds carry serious disease - especially psiticossis. If you use a critter proof (snakes like to get in there also), cover and use your leaf blower (take outside cover off to let lint blow out), from the inside once or twice a year depending on how much you use your dryer you will never have a problem.
I have a dryer vent that runs about 12 feet with a few elbows. I borrowed my daughters bouncy-castle blower and held it at one end and blew the lint to the next county. Nice work and video👍🏼 Very important lesson for new homeowners.
I would of never guessed that you clean out a vent this way. Pretty cool. I wouldn’t want to breath that stuff. Builders are idiots putting that much distance for a dryer to vent.
Yeah, the dryer vent on an exterior wall is a great idea. It’s where mine is, the run is about 2.5 feet, and I can get a big comforter done in less than an hour.
Good video! Incredible how much crap came out of that pipe! That crap of course significantly reduced the clothes dryer's efficiency but even more importantly is cleaning the vent removed the possibility of the dryer element burning out because of overheating (& the further threat of a fire hazard). I know from experience, because that happened to me. A very expensive lesson to get the dryer repaired but at least we did not have a fire in the vent pipe.
Did this years ago in Vancouver. Set up 4 leaf blowers. Used the 220 from dryer and wired so that the blowers had enough amps. This was great for blowing water out of long run ducts in condos. We could blow the nests 30 ft out from the building. Used a 3/8 snake wire in a 1/2 air Line in stead of the rods. Always replaced the flex duct with Ridgid. We found 1 in 60 did not actually make it to the exterior of the building in the condos. This guy is doing a great job!!
@@shawnm.1540 haha nice catch. I just saw other comments from like 20 hours before and assumed it was recent. Guess I'll leave the comment here anyway lol
Oh, yea... every time he turns around with a heavy power tool... moving his center of gravity away from the ladder... uh, get woosey thinking about it! :)
I use the same workflow but after the brush I use a leaf blower from the dryer wall outlet inside the house. This blows remaining material out through the vent to the outdoors. You’ll just have to pull the dryer away from the wall of course and wrap a towel around the leaf blower tip for a snug fit and less blow back. Time consuming yeah, but it’s done right.
This is a good thing to do! Too bad your not in Wyoming. You sure make it look easy. One of the things I didn’t realize is that a lot of dryers aren’t designed for a long run and have to be cautious of the elevation too. owners manual specs out how many feet and elbows. If long run like that it should be hard pipe not flexible pipe. Only learned this from the home were in. The builder installed flexible foil type ducting and just left it lay over the trusses. Hired a professional and they installed hard pipe with it insulated and a slight slope.

We had a similar issue with our dryer. We ended up getting a whole new vent pipe which was super easy to get and install due to how our washer and dryer units are placed in our house. The inside of that thing was NASTY! no wonder we couldn’t get our clothes to dry!
My dryer sits nicely in the corner of two outside walls, our vent never needs to be maintenanced. We'll take a look in once in a while, but it's always been pretty clean
Pros and cons....some have a mesh and they really foul up quickly with lint. Prefer the kind that is energy saving. This is the product but I saw different video on it earlier. czcams.com/video/8HGzQJ5N1Po/video.html&ab_channel=H%E1%BB%A9aHuyPhong
If I were the homeowner next door and a tradesman came to my door telling me he’d been working on my neighbor’s house and noticed I had the same problem, I’d definitely take his card. I’d ask my neighbor for a testimonial, then schedule an appointment.
@Drew Conway: Wager a discount since he is on scene and let him do it now. One time my neighbors had a tree service crane taking down some trees in their yard. I went over and secured a deal to take down a large pine tree in my yard since the equipment was on site.
Dryers cause over 6k fires a year in the US and a leading cause of housefires according to Consumer Reports. You should clean inside of your dryer.Use an appliance brush inside the pipe coming out the back or side of the dryer, vacuum it out.Take out the whole screen bracket (usually held in with 2 screws) brush and vacuum where it mounts and remount it.I have to take out the filter to do it on most dryers. It has a sensor wire but Ieave it attached and put it out of the way inside the dryer. Its a small inconvenience but if you get a fire it just might be the end of your home and you as well.
I ordered the tool and cleaned my dryer. No more complaints from my wife since. Also I think I should see my electric bill go down. There was so... much lint.
This is so different to what I have here in Australia. I have a lint trap inside the drum of my dryer. Although you guys over there do seem to use your dryers a lot compared to us, I might use mine three times a year or not at all. I have a huge line under my back awning that I use in bad weather.
I'm getting a dryer soon, but why does the exhaust go upwards instead of horizonal assuming its on the ground level? I'm thinking of just doing a horizontal exhaust setup because it'll be less than a few feet long to the outside and sounds like it'll be easier to clean as opposed to a vertical setup.
