- The one thing that I missed the most from the premium GR86 trim that my base model didn't have was the OEM duckbill! Luckily you can buy them separately and they come with everything you need to install them including the templates to drill the holes. Yes we have to drill holes....

That may be fine for badges and other type trim, but not something actually part of the airflow. Those who simply use the tape will likely lose their dcukbill someday, just hope I'm not one following behind🙈
Haha, there's no reason to not drill. Even if you miss drill, it's gonna be covered anyways lol, so I say go for it

I like how they made it a separate piece vs the 1st gen. Because if you screw up you could just buy that new plastic piece. I did this on my 1st gen and it’s literally drilling the metal trunk lid

I made the same noises when installing the Perrin trunk handle (curse you riv-nuts). Curious the duckbill could not have been designed to replace the entire trunk lip. Sure, more material, but the mounting points would already be there.

I have a carbon fiber duck lip coming tomorrow. I'm just going to use the tape. I had one for my S2000 and only used tape never had an issue with it and after 11 years it is still holding strong. I love your DIY video however. To see the Process if I need to drill is wonderful - thumbs up!!

Could you please leave a link to the spoiler? I'm from Australia and our base or premium GR86s don't come with duckbill spoilers and we can't order them from Toyota...looks like I have to source one from overseas if I want a genuine Toyota spoiler. Also how much was this?
Any chance you can see what wings would be compatible with ducktail 86s and do an install vid of your favorite one?
In all honesty, I'm trying to keep this low key so it likely won't have a big wing on it. If we get any in I can try them out though.
I wonder why they didn't the make the premium duckbill a whole new single piece that you replace, especially since it seems like the way the ducktail (and skirts) was designed to allow you to change the look by having them come right off, whole
Probably because it'd have to be two larger molds instead of just the one large mold and one smaller one. Usually comes down to cost.

Ive bought the same thing but havent installed it yet because i do not know if the tape will stick to me ceramic coated car, anyone know if it will?
My biggest issue is I have Neptune blue. And no one has a painted ducking bill for it.
After seeing the black spoiler on the orange 2023 special edition model, I'd been hoping something like this would be possible without too much hassle. Will definitely be looking at something like this for my base model too! Now I wonder if I should also do black on my red GR86 🤔

@@benrhysjenkins I didn’t notice that on their website so I’m assuming it’s a like a parts department situation but it still sucks, cause the Americans get it in the car as standard in top trim, no doubt we have to pay and have to ask around about one being supplied, fitted and painted.
Tbf though it doesn’t even matter cause all GR86 were sold out in the UK and to be one 2nd hand is the same story as the GR Yaris, middle aged men buying them and then deciding they don’t want it before it arrives so selling for more than new. GR Yaris is supposed to be just under £34 and I’ve seen people sell them for £35k-£44k brand new or even with up to 10,000 miles. Same with GR86 supposed to be just under £30k but seen them going for £32k-£36k

There are two different oem ones. There is the BRZ and the TRD ones that are both different.

Why aren't the holes pre drilled?
The duckbill only comes on the premium GR86 model. On the base model, you're left with just the trunk lip. If the holes were predrilled then you'd have holes in your trunk.

Not likely since it's not an oem option for the brz ☹️ you would need to go with the unpainted and then have it paint matched.

Not likely as it'd have to be a custom painted product. It comes in an unpainted version for you to paint match.

Because that's how it was meant to be mounted and is the most secure.

@@DatGR86 no it isn't likely to just fly off, but if you do it this way it's impossible for that to occur. If the holes were pre-drilled. Every base model would have holes in the trunks.

Probably easier (and cheaper!) to find someone with a GR86 Premium of the same color who does NOT want the duckbill, and swap the spoiler. Unless you have a BRZ in WRB.
There's a total of like 3 of these cars in my area haha I don't want to find a needle in a haystack. It would be convenient though!

it says subaru on everything because its a brz built by subaru, with tiny differences made for toyota's preferences. if you took off the toyota badges & look at the back of them, they also say subaru made in japan on them!

Carbon exterior components on a "daily" car are too loud for me. I just want something sleek. That being said I would love a cf Varis hood haha
