Malkov makes fantastic products! I've upgraded all my lights with their drop in's and they have so far been bullet proof.

I have two of the M951 lights, love them. I don't have a problem with the output, it's the light quality itself. Good spot and flood but the color of the xenon bulb washes everything out. I have one of these conversions coming for one of my own 951 lights, thanks for the video.
You should have led with the battery orientation first! I got it to work but I broke the black collar thing with my needle nose pliers getting it out. If I would have had my batteries oriented correctly, I might have been able to skip that step.

Mine came with two different bulbs. The 60 something,& I believe the other is a 125. The 125 is actually pretty bright. I like it especially with the nv cap. Have seen other's putting up to 1000 lumens bulbs in. It's supposed to drop right in if you change the spring out with the old bulbs spring.
Hey back in the day 60 lumens was all you needed to clear a room.....the frag took care of the back guys and just needed some light to find em.
Is this the brightest build they make for the 951
Have you experienced any issues with the upgrade hindering the use of the IR filter cap? I was told by someone that the LED upgrade makes the IR filter unusable
Don’t buy the cheap Chinese crap you see online. For a few bucks more you can get an American made Malkoff. Put the m61 in my sf 6p and went from 65 lumens to 450. Walking on my gravel road the other night and was pitch black( no moon) lit up the whole road. Not a hot spot more of a flood,worked great for walking.
Does the IR filter lose function with the LED ????
Yes, it doesn't function with LED.
I built my own custom led module for my 9v surefire. Thing throws over 300yds clear as day.

@@MrRaja681 I did it about. 10 years or so ago so I do t remember what I used exactly. I remember going on a few light forums and gathering as much info as I coul. At the time, I literally had to build my own lens and bezel.
I think now that you can order complete head units from companies like Malkoff. I would look them up.
If you don’t have the tool to remove the lens, I used a small finish nail cut to size.

That is my understanding yes. I don't believe any LEDs work with IR filters.
Highjak86 yeah, I don't think that's one of the things that hasn't been sorted out yet. I'm torn if on my M4 clone of my OIF2 rifle if I want to upgrade to a useable light or retain the IR capability. It a fun rifle rather than anything for serious use though.
Highjak86 you can also buy IR drop in's for most Surefires.

Nah, surefire light bodies too narrow.
Just upgraded mine with a CREE LED from ebay for $7, my M951 is 1000 lumen now

Rick Tenter it took me about 2 weeks. When u get it take the outer spring off, you dont need it. I had one in my old m951 for years and never had a problem with it, we will see about this new one but so far so good, ur gona be blown away with how bright it is haha

The entire body of the new surefire G2x fits the pressure switch portion of the light it just doesn’t have mount and it’s cheaper than what this guy is doing now you will need to also add a picatinny mount to body of light and you will then have 600 lumens a surefire product not Chinese knock off and on Amazon light costs $ 49.99!

Info: I've been an LEO low light weapons instructor for over 12 years. So, just a thought... for those of you accustomed to walking around outside in the dark with long range shot issues (thank you for your service) then more lumen output and a larger reflector is important for better throw. But, once you return to the land of the walking idiot, most of your encounters will be indoors or relatively close. For that, optimum output is between 50 and 100 lumen. Any more than that and you will experience overbloom, particularly on interior surfaces, which will have a detrimental effect on your own vision. That's not just my opinion, it was the original assessment of Dr. John Matthews, the founder of Surefire LLC. and I prove it every time I hold a low-light tactics class and somebody shows up with a hand-held searchlight. By the way, I own a TON if those things, they have their uses.
I would respectfully disagree. Surefire was founded in 1979 and to put it quite simply, it's not 1979 anymore - a lot has changed. 50-100 lum is EXTREMELY low even at your standard indoor engagement ranges. Spend some time on Primary and Secondary - don't take my word for it. Aaron Cowan has probably more experience on this subject than both of us combined and he's not the only reputable instructor/individual who advocates this 'the more lumens the better' (respectfully) logic.

Highjak86 There is a difference. I'm not trying to sell something. Surefire initially didn't make hand held lights outside of that lumen output. Not because they couldn't, they just didn't. After sales started going down because of competition making larger and brighter lights, they changed. I'm not saying that in certain situations brighter isn't better. What I any saying is that if you clear a standard interior room with a 400+ lumen flashlight it WILL have an adverse impact on your vision. After that, being able to use your adjusted vision to navigate without a light source becomes difficult. A light going out is a tail coming back. Like I said, I do this all of the time and I'm not trying to sell you anything.
Right, and what 'all the lumens' is saying is that any adverse impact in post from using a higher output light is negligible and takes a backseat to a much larger and more important priority which is identifying and controlling potential targets. Aaron addresses all of this including your concerns in the linked video. I don't think you're trying to sell anything and Aaron doesn't sell any flashlights if that's what you're implying (that's not his business), I just think you're using decade old logic by sticking with 50-100 lumens, hell even 300- 400 is on the low end for most general purpose weapon lights these days and there's a reason for that. More information is better.
