- This video is a quick tutorial on how to adjust the actuator mechanism that controls the rear axle lock function on the Honda Pioneer 1000. Common symptoms of needing adjustment is the inability to easily switch into turf mode from 2WD and vice versa.

Had the same issue and followed these instructions and now it works the way it was supposed to 53 miles ago when it was brought home from the dealer. Thanks Jack.
don't use turf mode often but when I saw this, went out and checked mine and it was way off! excellent job, thank you very much, Jim
Thank you so much for this video. I bought a new 1000 in 2016 and it was delivered with this turf shift problem. I took it twice to Gainesville Motorsport for recalls over the years and each visit I was told this was a “ known issue” with no solution yet. Shame on them. I fixed it in 15 minutes today. Awesome
Great video. I can't believe someone would thumb this down it's so to the point and works.
Thank you for the nice comment. Not everyone appreciates free advice apparently.
You just saved me a trip back to the dealer. I had the same issue from day one. Thanks brother!
have an appointment at the dealership to have this adjusted tomorrow, if I would have known how easy it was I would have fixed it myself. Great Information thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Just bought a 1000 with precisely the same problem but don't have a trailer yet so couldn't get it back to the dealer. Your video saved the day. Sure enough it was out of adjustment. I followed the steps you outlined and now have turf mode. Thanks again.
+Edward R glad it helped you out
This was awesome. I just thought it was a design flaw didn't really know there was a way to adjust it. BTW for others: the brake light is easily adjustable but I think that's in the Owners Manual. Keep the videos coming!
I never realized mine wouldn't lock, just figured the dash wouldn't light up. I just found out what locked read and locked 4wd feels like on the honda. Thanks. My adjustment was a bit different, but used your video for a starting point.
Wow! I was about to take my 2 month old unit in for warranty and then found this. Thanks a bunch!
Great video, mine required a little fine tuning after initial setting. I think those marks are where to start. Loose is locked. Thanks for a great video, you saved me a trip to the dealership.
Yeah me too. I had to loosen the middle one till it was in the center of the slot, and then it worked great. Thanks for the video!
Followed the steps you alid out and it worked great. Big Thanks
I watched the video , and adjusted the unit . No more black marks on the driveway . Thanks
I have had mine in the dealer 5 times. I just gave up. Thank you for your help I can do it now without any dealer hassle!
Mike Gunn your dealer sounds extremely incompetent.... or the didn’t even touch it. Either way that sucks.
Man I've shared this video at least 50 times on Facebook because folks are having the same problem. Just wanted to say thanks!
Glad it helped
Thank you. Took me less than 5 min after watching your video. Great job.
Thank you, fixed my cousins honda, 18 months old been to the Honda service agent twice and they never fixed it after being told both times, issue has been since new, looked at your video, took less than 10 minutes and is working beautifully for the first time since he purchased it brand new.
Awesome. Glad you guys fixed it!!!
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Thank you from Victoria Australia.
I noticed mine was doing the same thing. I put it in 2wd while in park, and took off the cover. Mine was way off. One try and she was back right. Thanks a lot.
Stoked! Ur the man. Same thing here, fixed thanks to this clip. Thanks a million!
Saved me from going to the dealer, great video thanks!
Be careful doing this, I adjusted mine as you said and it wouldn't come out of turf mode. I don't know if it pulled it too far and kinda jammed it but when I would come out of park but in 2wd it would pull just slightly on the cable going to the diff. I had to back the park cable off otherwise I would have never been fully locked in.
Still a great how to and absolutely fixed my 1000 just had to use slightly different adjustment.
Just what I needed. Thanks man!
Good video, thanks for sharing it. I recently bought a P3 and was wondering what that box was for, now I know.
Great video - really solved the problem for me!
Got the same problem here ! Thanks for making this video.
Great video! Took mine apart and unfortunately the cable is broken, but at least I know how to fix and adjust it. 5,500 miles on my 2020 and it was working until a couple weeks ago. Thanks!
Awesome vid, have this same problem at the moment so thank you for the info!
Saved me a trip to the dealer!
Mine does this, too. It’s a month old and the first service, they said they’d adjust it, but they didn’t do shit. Guess it’s up to me. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for the info Mine didn't go into turf mode the adjustment was way off. Thanks again !
+Joel Schneider glad this helped you
Great video man mine was doing the same thing 👍
Thanks for the tip. Well explained.
Great video! Thanks!
Very nice! Worked perfect thanks!
thanks tichendorf very helpful
Great video!
Yes! Thank you!
I just tried it and I could spin mine by hand just curious if yours was that loose
Thanks it does help.
Thanks a lot Great video
Thanks buddy mine would go into turf mode but absolutely hated to go into 2wd lock or 4wd it took like 5 minutes
What do you spin?
Thank You for this video. I have the same problem and I’m sure they just don’t adjust it correctly at the factory.
Thank you.
This is Dave, how about the adjustment from 4wd to 4 w lock diff?
According to the service manual you should apply tension to the bar spring before adjusting
mine did the same thing. took it to dealer took 4 days for them to figure out how to fix it.
Thanks!
thanks!!!!!
How fast can you drive a 1000-5 if you are towing approx 1200 lbs on a hard surface?
I have pulled my boat 50-55 to the river that weighs right around that.
I have done this numerous times. Everytime I have taken it to the dealer I ask them to fix it. Still not correct.
Had extended warranty. Was good for bad issues but they never have fixed the adjustment issue. I think the cables have stretched so lining it up like you show doesn't work.
How do you adjust this on a 2022 model Honda Pioneer 1000-3
Is it not the same?
Took mine back to dealer, 100 miles, they adjusted it. Still not right.
I wish Honda would just call it what it is, a rear differential lock. To me a real turf mode would/ should also detune the engine to lower the power so you’re actually less likely to spin accelerating as well.
I’ve always been a Honda man. This BS may change that !
I adjusted it once and never had another problem.
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Thanks. I adjusted mine today and it fixed it. Then……. oil light comes on intermittently on a brand new machine (8 miles) oil level is good. 🤦🏻♂️
@@ellobo1326 Not good
Great video, thanks !
Thank you
@@JackofAllMasterofNone Just brought my new 1000 home yesterday, 1 mile on it, and it was having a hard time going from turf to 2wd. Watched your video, it was slightly off, adjusted it exactly between the lines, works good now, was also being stubborn going into lock mode.
