This is the third different video I've watched to try to figure out a sliding knot. Yours is the best and easiest understood of all of them. Thank you for making it seem easy. Now I'll go try, but may have to watch this again.

Love your video. Love that you used a bigger string so we can actually see what you are doing. Thank you

I just got a new mask and I decided to take the elastic out completely because it always bothers me. Instead I put in a piece of para-cord and did the sliding knot to make it adjustable as she did in the video. Definitely makes it easier on the back of your ears. If you use para-cord you may want to burn the ends when you are done so it doesn't fray. To get the cord in where the elastic was, I put my cord through half a drinking straw then feed the straw through being careful not to let the string come out of the straw. Once it is through you can remove the straw. This trick also works well for re-inserting drawstrings (such as on hoodys or sweat pants).

Took me about 5 tries but I got the sliding knot to work, thanks! I'm using this for masks that tie behind the head with shoelaces.

That's my plan too, I'm hoping the same principle applies to around-the-head style, but it's going to depend on the strength of the hold. Only way to find out is to try it! Thanks for posting it sounds like it works for you.

GREAT! This seems to be the biggest issue with the masks I'm having...

What do you mean, one direction or the other? Which end goes where and does the knot 'direction' matter?

Can this be done with two separate strings? I got a mask as a gift that has strings that are supposed to tie around your neck, and for the life of me I can't tie and untie it easily enough for it to be convenient. I wanted to make a sliding knot, but everything I've found on how to do it has used a single string. I can't seem to get the single string technique to work on two separate strings :(

Yes. The way you do it is to do two of these knots that pull together. It is like a necklace or bracelet with two sliding knots. String one ties a knot on string two. And string two ties a knot on string one, if that makes any sense.

SO helpful! I'm mailing masks to son and son-in-law, and it's impossible to tell what will fit. What would you suggest the elastic length should be?

she's not using elastic. She's using cord. Elastic wouldn't work with this knot!! It would not slide!

What is the length for the face mask ear loops?

    • @cg0825
      @cg0825 Před 3 lety

I had to experiment a bit. Always start with more than you think you need because you can of course always go shorter but going longer requires you to start over.

    • @junbh2

I think they might be too squishy and might get stuck instead of sliding. But maybe I'm wrong.

Make sure the tshirt content doesnt have too much spandex/lycra/elastic, else it will just stretch rather than slide. 100% cotton is good!

I have made dozens of masks using T-shirt strips cut 3/4" wide and stretched to18-20" long and using a sliding knot, sometimes only making two loops instead of the 3-4 she is using in this video. Works perfectly and fits almost everyone. If the strip is too long after making the sliding knot, one can cut the ends after making a knot so the ends won't slip through the sliding knot. Don't tighten the sliding knot too tight. Hope this is clear.

She's just teaching how to tie a sliding knot in this video.
I just noticed she has some mask tutorials on her chsnnel. She may explain on one of those about the lengths for masks.

I think you make a casing at both sides and slip a string, or elastic through each side. Was that your question?
