    Toyota here in Japan has stated that this is 100% an aftermarket front pipe issue. They're not seeing them in a warranty capacity with stock front pipe, and every GR Yaris on the road is still within powertrain warranty time. Engine rocks, and if you remove the factory pipe, which is engineered to allow that flex, the exhaust now acts as an engine mount, flexing the turbo/manifold to engine, and the pipe cracks.
    Here's the fun part...If you don't change the torque mount to limit engine movement, or build a bracket to stiffen the turbo-to-engine joint, the next thing to go will be exhaust manifold, which is integral to the turbo, and big money.
    When we modify a car, we deviate from the original engineering, and everything is on us. People love to blame Toyota (I know you didn't), but it's not unreasonable to build a car without factoring in people who will remove the factory cats.

      @FPSRepair so stiffer pitch/engine mounts to go along with this fix then?

      @@guiltyspark652 Stiffer torque mount (lower-middle one) keeps the engine from pitching as much, so there's less stress on everything. BUT...NVH will increase. Toyota put a pretty soft mount in there to keep the buzz from a 3-pot at an acceptable level for the average person. I have the Cusco mount, and it's very "race car." Makes the car feel alive, and I love it, but it's not for everyone.

    Do you need to drain the oil before you remove the pipe?

      Negative, can whack the pipe off with oil still in car

      Only an issue if you start the engine while the drain pipe is off.
