  • The Besseggen Hike is located in Jotunheimen National Park and between the 3 major cities of Bergen, Oslo, and Trondheim. The National Park itself has over 250 mountains that are nearly 2000 meters high. The Besseggen hike is one of the most iconic and popular ones in all of Norway, with around 60,000 people hiking the trail on average each year. On the hike itself, you’ll be able to see amazing views of Lake Gjende, Lake Bessvatnet, glaciers, and endless mountain peaks. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime hike!
    🚗 How To Get There
To get to the Besseggen Hike, we recommend driving your own car or renting one. There is apparently a bus that goes from Oslo to Gjendesheim a few times per day which is called Valdresekspressen.

    😴 Where to stay
One of the great things about Norway is that you’re allowed to wild camp in most natural areas. Near the Besseggen Hike for instance, there are camping spots near the parking lot along the Valdresflye National Tourist Route.
There are also 7 other options near the trailhead:

    🎒 How To Prepare
    1. You should pack the right stuff, check it here: www.worldwildhearts.com/post/...
    2. You should check the weather in advance to ensure conditions are good enough for hiking. We don’t recommend doing this hike in the rain or heavy winds since there are steep rock sections that can be dangerous. Check the weather here: www.yr.no/nb
    3. The trail is moderately difficult due to the exposed sections of rock near the top and the overall length. We don’t recommend hiking this trail if you don’t have any alpine hiking experience. Make sure you’re a little bit comfortable with rocks and high elevation terrain. If you’re not fully comfortable, you can also book a local guide for the hike. OBS ,, : Some incorrect information about the journey to Besseggen from Oslo, since the aforementioned Valdres Express bus route does not go any closer than about 100km to the destination. From Oslo, take the train to Otta station and bus from there about 50km. Recommend tourist season July / August.

Thanks for correcting that! We found the info on their website, as we ourselves all came from Bergen

I hiked this earlier this month. When my Airbnb host asked where we went for a couple of days and told her we hiked and camped at the Besseggen ridge, she called my buddy and I "crazy" lol

@@worldwildhearts that’s what I thought too when I saw high school kids hiking the ridge for credit on their physical education. Pretty cool country
