- The original 1985 promo video for 'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side', recorded in RAK Studios in London, and directed by Ken O'Neill.
Since all of the other uploads of this video on here are either low quality or have logos on them, here's a decent quality copy, with stereo audio.
This was sourced from a high quality digital broadcast of the documentary 'Arsenal - Especial The Smiths', with the station logo removed using a clean, albeit lower quality copy of the Arsenal special uploaded online elsewhere. I have also replaced the mono soundtrack with a high quality, clean digital copy of the original single version of the track, as opposed to the more well-known Queen is Dead mix that came later on.
This is what I call "PERFECTION". 35 years and still a timeless classic. I could listen it again and again...
It's the second of their better musics. The first one is There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

My cousin once had the Arsenal videotape. The quality wasn't great but to see the band at their peak was pretty cool. The Smiths were the band that got me interested in rock music.

You are right, this original A-side much better than the "The Queen is Dead" version. It was also on the original "The World Won't Listen" (1987) LP but unfortunately the later re-issues of WWL include the QiD version of the song. (It's awful to change the original setlist of an album...)
it was recorded in August 1985 at Drone Studios in Manchester and mixed later in the month at RAK Studios in London (where the band also recorded the video). Morrissey and Johnny produced the recording, with Stephen Street as recording engineer.
after releasing it as a single, overdubs were added to it in October-November 1985 at Jacobs Studios in Farnham (Surrey) during the recording sessions for the album "The Queen Is Dead", to make it fit sonically with the rest of the material.
I find single version kinda lean (lack of overdubbed guitar track), yet more distinctive and attractive.

I’m new to the smiths. Is this a different version?
I'm not new to this song, this is my favorite of theirs. And while this is the same as the album version, I could instantly her it was a bit different. The intro sounds a bit more different and some instruments or more noticeable. But I think it's the same vocals.
