I just about punched myself to make sure I was awake when Tales of Arise came up during the State of Play. One of my favorite games of all time, looks like I'll be playing it a 3rd time real soon.
The Thousand Year Door Remake made my day I am impatiently anticipating that until it releases
No lie, I was hoping Vanilla Ware would have done Dragons Crown 2, but now I'm looking forward to Unicorn Overlord.
UC reminds me of Ogre Battle. But the Japanese collectors edition with the TCG included is interesting.
I'm unbelievably excited for Saga: Emerald beyond. Yes, it looks low budget, but it seems like they're expanding on the battle system from Scarlet Grace, which frankly is probably the best turn-based battle system I've ever seen. I really hope people give this game a shot.
yeah the video guy doesn't seem familiar with it, but it's obviously going to be very similar to Scarlet Grace, and some of the graphics/animations seem reused from that game. Not complaining as that game was pretty good.
It looks so awesome. I’m really hype for it and can’t wait. I need to play Scarlet Grace but I spent over 200 hours on Romancing Saga Remastered and loved it so much.
Don't sleep on Unicorn Overlord. It's Atlus's reimagining of Ogre Battle (which they made) except with Vanillware art style. Legendary classic in the making.
Saga emerald beyond is coming out on ps5, ps4, switch , IOS, and Android, and I believe PC. Also, Unicorn Overlord has me really excited to play it. I hardly ever am hyped about a tactical rpg
I'm so freaking exited for Unicorn Overlord. Can't wait to have in my hands the next Vanillaware masterpiece
For FF7Rebirth, people missed the announcement that the storyline is a bit juggled - that is, we will be visiting places out of order of the OG, so Mideel being shown is perfectly within reason. They also noted that Rebirth will end around the halfway point/in the City of the Ancients - so likely where Disc 1 ended in the OG... at the big spoiler part. Yeah.
The Vanillaware game looks interesting. It sounds like it might have some inspiration from the war aspects of the Suikoden games, and after seeing how well they did with 13 Sentinels, I am definitely going to check that one out!
Look up Ogre Battle and Ogre Battle 64. It's basically a spiritual successor from those games. A blend of RTS and RPG.
Vanillaware just collapsed tho.

I haven’t been as excited for anything in YEARS as I am for the Paper Mario Thousand Year Door remake. I hope they don’t change too much because that game is perfect. I play it every now and then emulated on PC with my GameCube style switch controller and it is just everything to me. It recreates it perfectly, I hope the new one just updates graphics, quality of life stuff and maybe adds more stuff without taking anything away.
The tales of arise thumbnail made me instantly watch this
I could be wrong, but my feeling is that SAGA is more popular than ever these days, and that fans of the series will really like this new entry.😊

@7thlittleleopard7 because the 3 romancing saga games are great, saga frontier is pretty darn good and unique and scarlet grace has the best battle system in the series. Also the gacha is doing fantastic.
@@netangel39 I disagree and found them lifeless, bland and boring (especially Frontier, dear god that game was not fun), but you are welcome to feel how you feel and I'm glad that you're happy for the existence of another in the series.
Have you tried Alliance Alive before? It's very SaGa but with good story and characters and interesting world. Worth checking if you do like the SaGa series.
@7thlittleleopard7 i did . Have the 3ds version though. That one and Legend of Legacy both made by same team as spiritual successors to SaGa series. Though I didnt find legend that good. It tried to tell it's story in the same way dark souls does and the difficulty spikes were all over the place on that one lol.
I was not expecting new dlc for Tales of Arise. That was a very pleasant surprise.
Looking forward to that and Super Mario RPG.
Yes! A new expansion for the Tales of Arise game?! Ugh, Im gonna boot up my PS4, download that and continue my quest. One of my favorite RPG games and also Tales in the series. Yeah!! Im gonna get new costumes too! I bought a lot of their costumes in the Playstation Shop. LOL.
I am a huge fan of RPGs that involve being able to recruit a large number of unique characters that are mostly optional but not such a fan of grid-based TRPGs and hate gacha mechanics.
Between Eiyueden Chronicles, Unicorn Overlord, the Suikoden 1 & 2 remaster and maybe Granblue Fantasy Relink the near future is quite exciting.
Saga EB is coming to all consoles for those wondering, and personally I think it looks pretty good, but I've been burnt too many times with that series.
To talk about Saga, the last one, Scarlet Grace had amazing combat and mechanics that this one seems to be iterating on.
While I never thought of Saga as particularly popular, it's mobile game has actually been a consistent hit, which I think has lead to all these remasters and finally a new game. So there is an audience familiar with Saga somewhere.
Though it looks like they haven't gotten a much bigger budget since Scarlet Grace, IMO what that game needed was to break out of the fantasy setting and have something weird and eclectic like Frontier. Which this looks like it's doing.
A follow up to Scarlet Grace, that's overall better, is likely to be secretly one of the best jrpgs in what looks to be a good year already.
SaGa as a franchise isn't profitable to Square-Enix unlike FF and DQ, which is pretty obvious in the budget department.
If each game they released for the series was profitable enough, then they would increase the budget for future entries.
After the massive financial and critical bombs that were Unlimited SaGa and the Romancing SaGa 1 remake on PS2, SE didn't want to risk spending a lot of money on the series and it shows in all the new entries as well as the remasters of older games.
Not to mention the bizarre gameplay choices they've used since its inception have only drawn quite a niche audience of maybe a few thousands, again unlike FF and DQ which have millions of players each.
Just this week i was thinking when Vanillaware would announce a new game.
It looks amazing for sure. Vanillaware's art is top notch. I hope they release this game on PC too. This would be a first, but Atlus is now releasing games on PC so we can only hope that this game (and all the older ones) to come to PC.
You are going to love both Mario games. When people bring up Super Mario RPG on lists for greatest rpg's of all time it's for a good reason and Paper Mario :The Thousand Year Door is one of the funniest rpg's I have ever played. It's been a very long time since I played both so I am really hoping I'm not looking back with rose colored glasses on these two. lol
Tales of Arise is one of my favorite "Tales" games hands down and I was very surprised with the announcement and will get it day one.
Pretty excited for SaGa Emerald Beyond. I liked Scarlet Grace and this looks very similar to it but with character art I like more.
Mondo excited for Unicorn Overlord despite not loving the name 😅
Super Mario RPG as I’ve never played it either.
Eiyuden may be my most anticipated from this list. Or 7R2… probably 7R2 haha.
And the Tales DLC. Can’t believe how alive the RPG genre continues to be.
Vanillaware new game looks a lot like Grand Knights History but much better. I'll play it.
Grandblue, Metaphor: ReFantazio and eiyuden chronicles are my most antecipated new games. :3
Excited for the Tales of Arise DLC. One of my favourite game of 2021 and one of the few games that handles romance right. Hoping more ShionneXAlphen moment.
All these old remakes is more reason not replay a lot of the popular JRPGs since they will most likely remake them. That new strategy game by vanilla looks great btw 13 Sentinels is great game to learn Japanese. Nice update

When they showed the new Vanillaware game, I thought it was a remaster of Grand Knights Historia.

I wonder if the late Tales of Arise DLC has something to do with the Tales of team leader being busy with Scarlet Nexus and only recently coming back to the Tales of franchise.

The Tales of Arise expansion is perfect for me, I’m planning to finally play it early next year.
On the other hand, I might end up waiting until FF7 part 3 is out to play the entire trilogy in one go. I haven’t even played Remake because I want to play OG FF7 and CC Reunion first.
Actually the SOGA games are always mid budget and unique! I LOVE them and WILL buy this new one!! U better be wrong Cox we need MORE SOGA games!
I highly doubt SaGa will ever go away, it's one of square's longest standing brands if not the longest. Look very similar to scarlet grace ambitions, like that character is basically urpina re-used lol, also kinda cool vanilla ware and atlus are trying to bring ogre battle back. FF7 rebirth is gona ruin my life and eiyuden chronicles... looks a little jank but i have faith in the OG suikoden team. Definitely playing all 4, and also just tried the star ocean second story demo OMG that game is gonna be good! I was pleasantly surprised. VERY polished. Initially was on the fence but insta-preordered within the 1st few minutes lol.
I love SaGa and Scarlet Grace was super fun but... yeah. It basically looks like Scarlet Grace with a new coat of paint. Which I am sorta conflicted about. For one, I loved that game but, I wish we got a new SaGa instead of Scarlet Grace 2. But, if it's as good, then it's still worth the money and the time investment.
the new game of Vanilaware remembers me, in some way, a Japanize version of Heroes of Might and Magic, and I'm into it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You forgot Front mission 2 remake on the same day as wargroove 2. I already preorder unicorn overlord. It reminds me of soul nomad and the world eater mixed with the original ogre battle

super excited for Eiyuden and especially Unicorn Overlord despite the stupid name. definitely in the mood for a tactics RPG that doesn't just copy FFT's gameplay. I loved Tales of Arise, so pretty happy to go back to that world, I agree the timing is extremely strange though.

Hopefully there won't be any actual problems by April for the Eiyuden release. The game is made with Unity, and their whole thing is pretty nuts right now. If Unity really does demand the platforms (Xbox/Switch/Steam/PS) pay them for installs, sure seems possible those platforms could de-list all Unity games until the legal challenges are worked out. Like Apple did with Fortnite.

@@Scuzoid_Melee Maybe it got pushed even further back because of all that and this is the re-revised date? We can hope. Afterall, it was thought they'd be releasing around Feb-March but late April is further than expected.
With Unicorn Overlord, I'm honestly surprised you didn't name drop Ogre Battle.

Unicorn is reminiscent of Ogre Battle and Symphony of War.
That Saga game looks to have a very similar battle system as Saga Scarlett Grace. I’m guessing most of the same engine from that game is being used in this one.
They're making the FF7 series so confusing lol
From what I understand, there is FF7 remake (game 1) > FF7 intergrade (Yuffie DLC) > FF7 rebirth (game 2). I believe the "twin pack" only includes intergrade & rebirth. But intergrade only works if you have remake. So essentially, the "twin pack" is only worth it if you already played FF7 remake and haven't bought the Yuffie DLC yet.
If you haven't played any part of FF7 yet, just look around before you purchase ANYTHING. You'll want all 3 pieces but there are several different ways to collect these pieces.
I also never played Super Mario RPG, but i watched a friend play through it a few times. He never got me to play Mario RPG and I never got him to play Lufia 2. I only play PC games so the only SaGa Frontier I have access to is the first one.
Please release the Wondering Sword onto PS4/5 already!!!

Yeah i can't wait for the update of Tales of Arise beyond the dawn DLC i pre-ordered the DLC for 30$ on steam so i heave it waiting to be released. I loved the story and can't wait to see the world after the ending.
I finished the the game 100% like 3 times and new game+ like 6 times with all achievements.
thanks for the news. Vanillaware have never let their fans down with how rich the details or aesthetics their game are and you can expect the story to be woven layers upon layers like their previous games. this seems like the knight game (on psp) they make before (by their 2nd team who now create their own studios). and am glad they went back with fantasy setting but i sure hope they make more sci-fi stuff like 13 sentinels. but yea, the name unicorn overlord is as weird as like odin's sphere 😅
SaGa Emerald Beyond battle systems seem to borrow heavily from SaGa Scarlet Grace but the character's design and general UI have been upgraded. but yea, SaGa games are of the niche (they may not have great success like smt/persona) and i may or maynot get it even tho i enjoy playing them (the series is known for heavy grinding just like disgaea). but it is indeed a welcome surprise for me. hope to see more of this game before i decide to get it or not.
BTW. Unicorn overlord is exactly like ogre battle.
The devs of the ogre battle team has joined up with vanilla Ware.
This is what they are meaning by the rebirth of that RPG

I really exited about Tales Of Arise DLC and FF7 Rebirth, both are my best franchise games.
I'm gonna have to go back to tales of arise and finish it for the DLC, I gave it up about a week after it released due to bad mental health and then other games came out. Might pick up the ps5 version when I get one and play through it on there instead
Alphen and Shionne are the first Tales of protagonists that get married since Stahn and Rutee from the Destiny Duology, and now they're going to adopt a child. All the trailers and screenshots of Alphen, Shionne, and Nazamil just scream big happy family, especially when Alphen jumps to her defense when the Dahnans were persecuting her.
the paper mario is not a remake is a remaster of the original game cube game, is the same game with better graphics and maybe some quality of life features

A new Saga game? Hope the story is as good as Saga Frontier 2.
The Saga mobile game makes like 200-300 million dollars a year, or at least it did a few years back. This is way more than any Final Fatasy mobile game. Japan seems to be nostalgic about the series at least, and let's be real, that's gonna be the main market for these games anyways.

Minus the SaGa game, these announcements were awesome! When Square makes an important preview, they usually go hard! Which is understandable considering how well FF7R turned out. Sucks Eiyuden Chronicles got delayed along with the Suikoden Remasters. Just hope that means they ironed out what's left to make these releases go smoothly. And yes, it's a little late for something new for ToA, but I've read this expansion will be free for those who already have the base game and it's gonna be more than 20 hours of content. So, it gives us something to hold us til the next Tales game comes out.
I love SaGa and was hyped for the announcement and because it looks like it has the Scarlet Grace combat, which is one of the best turn-based RPG combat systems ever.
But, then I noticed it was pretty much Scarlet Grace with a new coat of paint. That game is pretty good but it was made for Vita so it has that "handheld" game jank to it.
I was hoping a new SaGa game would be more like the console releases of the past. Hopefully it's as good as Scarlet Grace but sells better and we eventually get a proper SaGa game like Romancing SaGa or SaGa Frontier.

It’s a bit of a stretch but could that kid in that Tales of Arise DLC be Alphen’s kiddo? Their hair colors, clothing (not the armor) and mannerisms look a bit too similar to my eyes 🤔

I bet the new girl in the tales of arise DLC is the daughter of the evil chosen one you had to fight multiple times. Maybe he's still alive and did a lot of soul searching and isn't as bad as he used to be? Maybe he's still the same? Maybe he's truly dead? Stay tuned for the next episode of dragon ball z.

I can't wait to play all these games, all except for wargroove 2. I don't got nothing against the game, I just never heard of it, and the gameplay doesn't interest me. And unicorn overload and eiyuden chronicle look like really fun games that I sink hours upon hours into. But the main jrpg that I'm interested in playing the most final fantasy 7 rebirth. It just looks so good, and I would love to play with Sephiroth if possible.

Thousand Year Door was the best Paper Mario game after the original 64 game. After that each game got a little bit weirder (and the last two just sucked), the character designs started falling off for me, and I didn't enjoy the them as much as the first two. Looking forward to playing it again!

They better release those great titles onto PS and Xbox ASAP, since the downside of Switch hardware would CAUSE those games and HURTS my eyes lol. Btw I do own an oled switch but prefer NOT to play it unless the games is exclusive...
It's funny that Genshin makes so much money for the PlayStation considering how much Sony of America hates anime. Sony as a whole makes a TON of money off anime since Sony Music of Japan owns Aniplex, which in turn own most things anime-related.
Granted, Sony Japan don't hate anime, only Sony America does. The PlayStation company is way more related to Sony America than they are Sony Japan, and it's headquarters is in California.

In terms of SaGa games, I’ve been playing them for decades and they’re mid tier, budget games that aren’t very good IMO.
@@TheGamingShelf I do watch your channel and all the collabs you do with other JRPG channels and I wouldn't bother commenting if I didn't watch or care but I don't like when people give opinion on things they have no expertise at e.g. Saga series. How did you come up with the fact that this was not a popular franchise? Based on what number? Also do you think Square is just hellbent on burning money for no reason? Do you know something that they don't?
