In honour of the release of Stranger of Paradise, we've decided to make The Complete Evolution of Chaos! This will look at the initial starting point and show how Chaos has been used either as a physical being or entity as the franchise has built out.

Hi. Nice to meet you. What do you desire to know about Chaos? Smh. Of course FF(66) paints Chaos as the Bad guy. While FF Origin Strangers fixed the position of Chaos in gaining understanding, but you all still do not understand the role of Chaos.
The thing that made me scared of Chaos in the Dissidia games wasn’t his design but now deep and frighten his voice was thanks to Keith David’s incredible performance
I absolutely loved Keith David as Chaos. No other actor should ever voice him after that performance.

@@Harrowing999 the first time I notice Keith David was his narrative work on several WWE documentaries and also did the intro to the 2018 Royal Rumble.
Keith David is a truly talented actor and voice actor. I LOVED him as Spawn back in the 90's.

@@michaelmiller6675 Lol, there's plenty of channels for that already. I've always been fascinated by how FF not only spills into spin-offs like Dissidia, WoFF, SoP, etc., but full on other series like KH, Mana, SaGa, Chrono Trigger, among others.

I hope the guy who voiced him in Dissidia(Keith David?) reprises his role. His voice was great.
Also, I'm here to learn about Chaos, that's my mission.
One does not simply recast Keith David once he's owned the role of an inhuman badass. Chris Sabat is returning as Garland, if he does indeed become the traditional Chaos as he did in FF1, would make sense to bring David back for Chaos to match both in Dissidia
@@zeroattentiongaming820 Normally I would be confident to say that he will be back. But after the FF7 remake recasted every character, I'm not so sure.
@@georgehouliaras7239 Fair point, though iirc the Remake cast is exclusively for the remake, with Square intending to keep the Compilation cast for side games or any future cameos the FF7 cast makes in things like KH.
Something about wanting the Compilation and the characters of the original FF7 universe to keep their established cast, even in camoes. The Remake on the other hand was going for a much different tone and intentionally tweaking the story on a meta level both in universe and out, intentionally being familiar but distinct. As such the Remake alone was entirely recast to fit what it was going for in comparison and contrast to the setting as we knew it. Very close but noticeably distinct.
Iirc that's how Nomura and Kitase explained their reasoning to recast FF7. Solely for the remake and specifically done to complement 7R's big twist and make this version of the setting distinctly separate from the Compilation as we've known it to date. From anyone else I'd say recasting every character just to hint towards the twist that 7R is seemingly an in universe sequel to the Compilation and thus not the same story as 7 and the Compilation is completely insane, but this is Tetsuya Nomura. Complete insanity is his trademark lol.
Besides look on the bright side, even with a different voice actor in the remake, Sephiroth's new English voice just happens to have previously played Superman before getting the One Winged Angel role, just like his previous voice George Newburn did lol. Chaos' voice actor previously played himself in Saints Row 4, so if they want new Chaos to be a former Keith David, guess they gotta get Keith David.

to this day, my best moment was beating Feral Chaos with Lightning alone, first time i used the Iai Strike build but after that, i beat him on even terms with Lightning alone and no cheap tricks, felt good :D
I remember beating the two versions of Feral chaos in the post game of story mode.
I played as kain with ultimecia as assist and i would spam the hell out of Jump with kain,use shinryu as my smn and pop ultimecia whenever he attempts to get out of the jump loop

That's a lot more Chaos than I expected, very interesting, I like when is depicted with a human side or human origin, works better for me than other incarnations of evil like Cloud of Darkness or Exdeath, who are just evil for the sake of being evil
Cloud of darkness isnt evil, she just wants to balance light and darkness. She is like natural disaster, a neutral force.
@@VylonDelta well, I wouldn't say neutral since "she" is responsible for manipulating Xande, and tries to destroy everything to a point even the Warriors of Darkness must help you to defeat "her" ,but yeah she's like a force of nature

Hmmm... I have been wondering ever since the trailer for Stranger dropped: What if we're actually watching FF1 Garland go on a journey for the betterment of the kingdom, only to be desillusioned at the end and becoming the "thing" he was out to destroy? Ever since the trailers showed the four fiends I have been with this hypothesis churning on my head.
I'm not familiar with the new info and media surrounding Stranger in Paradise. But the fact that Jack is obsessed with destruction, and he ends up having 4 companions over the course of the game, I can definitely see that.

Honestly i can only see that as the Basis for Stranger of Paradise.
First of all it was "Final Fantasy Origin" and we follow the Story of "Garland" and his "4 Companion" if this not in a way Square Enix creating a FF based on the Backstory of FF1 i don't know what.
@@Azazantei If the main character becomes the fallen knight Garland and eventually Chaos, I have to wonder how the traditional Garland, looking very similar to his Dissidia design, will play into things. Granted time travel is a core part of Garland's story from day one so that likely plays a part but still very curious to have the main character seemingly be a new take on the character while still featuring his traditional villainous self in the same game.
I just saw the ending and its really not Garland who is the villain but... anyways I wont spoil who are the villains. Anyways the plot twist at the end for me is great.

Chaos is one of the most fearful villains in FF and general gaming history.
Main reason is that Chaos isn't some evil Demon or Wizard or entity that exists.
Chaos is something that exists beyond time and space. If you're acquainted with Greek mythology, Chaos is the first thing that existed in the universe, it is basically the void itself, out of which everything else flowed.
Once you understand the nature of Chaos, you also understand it's not simply an enemy that can be beaten.
In Greek Mythology, Chaos also birthed Erebus aka Darkness/shadows.
Chaos is the very personification of the void, and its the void itself.
It's clear to me that FF writers took the Chaos concept from Greek Mythology. As such when Jack and the people say they want to "kill Chaos", you realise quickly that something is wrong here. They want to kill something that may not exist in the form or causality that they believe to exist. In fact they may be the reason Chaos exists.
Word of warning if you're going to watch the original E3 trailer of strangers of paradise do not play the chaos drinking game

Fascinating! I knew about Chaos in FFI, and in Dirge of Cerberus - and I've fought him in FFXIV of course - but I didn't know about all the other versions and appearances. Great video!

Chaos is basically the Dracula from Castlevania and Mundus from Devil May Cry version of Final Fantasy series, judging by his third eye on his forehead and his return in most of the FF games but in a different variation forms. Now it got me thinking that Spiritus is like the son of Chaos, similar to Alucard from Castlevania series.
I was waiting for something like this-- thank you! I had a hunch that Zodiark in FFXIV was somehow tied to Chaos, but it all makes more sense now. You've turned a meme into something really cool.
Feral Chaos EX move is the best thing i ever saw out of FF! he even turns off the PSPs screen on final hit.plus its bgm, "cantata mortis & god in fire" is the best boss bgm period.

I kinda find it funny how chaos doesn't have any kind of appearance in final fantasy 9, given that garland played a fairly big role in the story

It's interesting that humans identify chaos as a negative concept, when all it is is pure, unrestrained nature, while human enforced order is often damaging to nature. Makes you wonder which is really evil.
Oh so pedophiles, thieves and liars are good? My electricians didn't do what i paid him to do and was to lazy to connect all the fuse properly and so certain didn't work, i couldn't shut off or turn on my vmc, the electric part of my stove was properly done and connected to the power grid so using it would cause all the safety fuse to trip and shut off everything in my house. I mean if you want the answer right. Imagine Satan right who is not Chaos by the way. Hates Chaos, so best way to condemn the word Chaos when it appears is to give it a negative connation. So right, in reality if you know Greek Etymology of the word; Chaos alongside it's other meaning BEFORE THE 15th(6) Century wording of 'disorder and confusion' meaning. You would find one of the reasons Chaos is seen in negative light by the 'devil' or forces of this world is because Chaos is 'water', not just any water...but I digress.
feral chaos is not only one of the hardest bosses in the series but one of the hardest bosses ever made

I just love that Endwalker has been out for 3 months now, and the story is so good that any video regarding FF14 is still met with SPOILER WARNING. Just shows how good the story is and how much we as the players, care about others enjoying the story
that trial blew my mind: "UH, HIM ALREADY?!?!" also felt great main tanking all the trials, i liked Gunbreaker in ShadowBringers but absolutely fell in love with it in Endwalker!

Chaos in Dissidia is strongly hinted at being the same Chaos as FF1.
FFXIV however becomes more.. The interdimensional rift is what binds all FF games together. Omega an Shinryu of FFV are essentially the same as encountered in DoS, same with Gilgamesh. Thus the Chaos spawned in Alphascape is likely because Omega learned of him during the rift visit to FF1.

Huh, honestly didn't realize they'd uses Chaos that much (or all that other stuff about Dissida's story, I own both the PSP games and don't recall any mention of all that, wow)
Also it's probably a bit of a stretch, but wouldn't the Emptiness in 11 count as a form of Chaos? It's basically the inspiration for 13's incarnation.

I would say that FF4 Zeromus has the same characteristics as Chaos and could be counted as Chaos just with a different name as he was a form from hatred that corrupted Golbez. His signature move was also the Big bang.
And he become a esper in ff12
Zemus was a lunarian, using his mind control to manipulate Golbez, while Zeromus was his resentment and hatred given form and conscience

@@DJ_Treu to be fair, that raid is based on FF1, just like the ones for Ex-death, Kefka, and the Cloud of Darkness are based on other FF villains, perhaps at some point till be FF14's own version of chaos.
