Ray was definitively the secret weapon of this band. What a keyboard, man...
There was no bass player.
No bass player was kinda their problem. I love the doors, always have, but the sound is so thin without a bass guitar player. Anyways, this is still really cool. Might pick this up!
Ray's left hand was the doors bass player, he used a Fender bass keyboard live and in the studio. You can see it over his actual keyboard.
I feel like that could be a plus in some ways. The thinness in their instrumentation leaves more room for Jim's words.
The Best
The quality of this video is a cure for cancer
It's like a time machine
DVD of the full show is out in a few weeks . Only took 48 years !!!!

the best fucking post in much time
Thier last show ever. Jim is quite subdued but he is in top form
So well done and from what I read, the doors didn’t bring any lights with them and that’s why its somewhat dark. Also I heard it was around midnight when they went on.... But damn this was one hell of a doors’ show...
One of the greatest bands of all time!
Joshua Stephens The best band of all time
Dante Mendez that would be The Beatles. The Doors are one of the greatest, but not THE greatest.
@@bluesunday8225 The Beatles is a pop band,im talking to the real rock no shits
Dante Mendez POP band? They CREATED psychedelic rock, with the song Norwegian wood, created a whole new sound with each album, and have you heard the white album? The first hard rock song/heavy metal song: Helter Skelter, along with rock songs such as Yer Blues, Revolution 1 (/Revolution) Happiness is a Warm Gun, Why Don't We Do It In The Road, Birthday, etc. and off the white album, I've got a feeling, Don't Let me down (rooftop version and studio version) Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Carry That Weight, The End, etc. every song of theirs did not sound the same. Cant say the same with the doors (I adore The Doors, by the way) listen to their first album. Every guitar solo sounds extremely similar. The Beatles paved the way for music. They created so many new technologies and techniques. They were the revolution of music. No one comes close to them

Huh???? Lmao! Crank it up, so I can hear it better!!
The first single that introduced the Doors to the world, and they broke on through. It still sounds great, nearly 55 years later. The Doors longevity and impact on listeners is truly infinite.
Im pretty sure it was light my fire that made them noticed and eventually signed.
First album is basically a greatest hits on their first try...
1000% Agree. i was born late 80s and the doors are still probably one of my alll time favourites, when i show others that have nevee hear the songs before and explain the lyrics and get them to listen to the music and the difference between their music and todays they really click with the doors.
I'm 43 and love The Doors...sorry I missed the tail end of the 60's ❤🔥
Yeah.
So damn tight, these guys. I will never understand why The Doors are so under appreciated. EDIT: after 4 years and having read your comnents, I want to revise this last statement. I hope every generation and every lover of excellent, unsurpassed music experiences falling in love, for keeps, with The Doors. They are magic. Perfect magic
The Doors fanbase is still growing 50 years later...
Ask any 15 year old who Morrison was and they will tell you! UNDERAPPRECIATED? Not by a long shot...
Tassie
JACKY PATTERSON fellow 15 yr old here, i love the doors and Jim Morrison is one of my idols but unfortunately I would say most teens these days probably don’t know who Jim is but who cares this music isnt intended for people who don’t listen.
@@lonelyhearts4216 I totally agree Max..they are for the most part not intelligent enuf to absorb his meaning!!
I first saw the Doors in 1968 and last saw the boys in May of 1970...

Good 2 hear from u
JACKY PATTERSON wow that’s amazing what I would give to see them live
I was a huge Doors fan back in those days, and always have been. Jim Morrison was immensely talented. He was a poet, I have his books, and he could really sing. He was a tragic figure, gone too soon.
how the hell does Ray play the bassline keys , the lead keys, and sings backup vocals at the same time???
and the bass doesnt sound bad..... I think ray partly did it out of maximizing profits to boot.
Genius musician is all. 🤘❤️
He has sung whole shows when Jim was too out of it.
As cool as Jim was, and being a great poet, the music was there before he was.

The best thing about the doors. Is no one sounded like the doors. Truly unique.
0:30 Ray Manzarek is simply the coolest guy on the history of keyboard players
totally agree, and bobby and John are the best too, just an awesome combo, that can't be beat,
Edmundo Peñaflor Luna His keyboarding was great 👍🏻but his singing was a real drag 👎🏻
Ray Manzarek and Jon lord best keyboard players in the history of rock&roll.
eh, Wakeman. Always Wakeman. But, I love the Doors.
@@edhardwick2538 love Rick but Ray always seem to fit the song better rather than showing off licks and soloing, his playing makes their song swing and groove so good it made them more than an ordinary rock band.
The doors of perception were opened and the world was never the same. Thank you Jim, Ray, John, and Robby!
Remembering Jim on his birthday.
The red tinting adds a lot of atmosphere!
Jax Nean For some reason they didn't have the lighting the other bands had.I agree, the red light works.
Don Hancock I believe the story behind that is, they didn’t know they were supposed to bring their own equipment, so that’s why other bands had more lighting and why the doors only had the red lighting and the one spot light
Am glad they didn't have their lightning
The red light is great while watching it in the dark and drinkin in my living room
It definitely matches their tone of music
@@kevinaranda5698 true dat, after all "Everything must be this way"
I don't always listen to The Doors but when I do so does the neighbours
The creativity used to make this song is just flat out amazing. They don't make songs like this in this day and age.
This wasn’t just Jim’s band, Ray, Robbie and John with Jim Morrison made the Doors and anything less would just be noise and that’s no lie...✌️☮️✌️
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude
Trudat.
Morrison's voice sounds too good to be real, let alone a live recording
I guess Bruce Botnick did a bit of tweaking here, as always.
I just have to add a personal story. I was doing a cover of this song with my band. I sang it.
It was a small show, and someone handed me a lit joint while I was singing the "she gets high" part.
I took a hit, and gave a shotgun to 2 of the 3 guys playing. The crowd was going nuts.
The guitarist didn't smoke weed, and wouldn't do it. I looked at the crowd and said "And if you don't want to, don't." Cheers.
I gave the joint back to the guy and thanked him. Then I sang "I got high, I got high..."
A few months later, we were getting real gigs. We did Break on Through directly into Roadhouse Blues.
Ugh, Ugh, Ugh, UGH! - donk-a-donk-a-duh-duh-duh-donk-a-donk-a-donk...
I sang and played harmonica. It was amazing.
The only other Doors song we did was Peace Frog. That was also something that put the audience right in our hands. The Doors are on their own level.
Beyond curious to know what these musical geniuses would do with modern technology and musical era. I’m absolutely in love with the display of talent and personality The Doors consistently bring. Fuckin lovely man.
Prop nothing music today is Just one frame, they were best like this on there own

It is to this Doors fan!

The Doors, like many rock bands of that period, developed their own unique approach. The band's performances, compositions and arraignments were built around Morrison. Jim's charisma, manner, poetry, voice, dress, drew huge audiences. Even now as I listen, I'm transported back through time to the rise of cynicism, youth rebellion, civil rights, peace and love.
Great set! I saw them live in concert twice, the first time with my mom when I was 13. I was supposed to see them a third time, but the concert was cancelled as was the whole tour. You see, on March 1, 1969, Morrison allegedly decided to show Little Jimmy to the audience in Miami. Years later I visited his grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
That’s Awesome that you was able to visit Jim’s grave

Music is subjective
The whole band I feel is a rare example of everyone being a key component. Like yeah Jim Morrison has such an iconic voice but everyone else holds their weight one way or another. Everyone is just so essential to the overall sound it’s honestly more then impressive.
The keyboards, the drumming, the bass line, the guitar tone, all of the vocals, so good.
What Bass Line? They have no Bass player.
@@buddywilliams5650 Ray plays the bass lines on his 2nd keyboard. On the albums they pull in bassists to play the bass part, never a permanent member or anything and only used for recording, live stuff was all Ray.
Also a bass line doesn't mean it's played on bass fyi, it is just a secondary (though on some rare occasions it is the primary) line of music that is in the lowest range. Like classical music has basslines, but it's played on tuba, euphonium, trombone, baritone sax, etc.
TLDR: They use bass players for the albums, Ray plays the bass lines on keyboard, basslines aren't just for basses.
Sorry for those paragraphs, hope you have a good day.
That video quality is incredible. It shows how tight the band was in concert.
Holy SHIT! My uncle went to this festival and I realise now he must have seen these guys! Lucky bastard!! God I wish I’d been alive then! The most interesting of times along with the Eighties.
Densmore..probably the most underrated drummer, in rock history...
His voice and Ray's voice sound so good together
Ray was a great back-up vocalist! Voice sounded so much like Jim’s.
the best version! rest in peace Jim and Ray
This was 1970; a year later, Jim Morrison died at age 27. He looks lit up here. It's too bad that he lived fast and died too young. I remember playing The Doors album over and over. Break on Through had this cool tink...tink...tink by the drummer at the beginning. A great sound in 1967 and the beginning of what was happening in music then.
I always saw this period of time as Jim coming into his own. Yes he was struggling to find the balance between fame and freedom, but his look and his appearance showed a maturity he was comfortable with. And he wore it unbelievably well. I still think he was the greatest front man of all time. What a beautiful man, inside & out.
Damn, these dudes were the best. Each was a master of his won craft and together they made Awesome music that lives forever. Thanks for posting.
This song always takes me on a phenomenal roller coaster ride ! I am always mesmerized by the pure genius on keyboard , haunting guitar and incredible drums accompanied by Morrison's hypnotic voice ! A brilliant performance that never disappoints. Simply out of this world!

The definitive video footage The Doors live at the Isle Of Wight festival 1970, absolute best band ever THE DOORS
The Doors. What a trip. Beautiful and spiritual and sad. Jim seemed more dedicated to truly breaking through to the other side more than any artist I can think of.
After listening to many The doors concerts I have come with the conclusion that this one is the most musically beautiful, don't get me wrong, I love the one from detroit, that version of the end is the purest in my opinion. But this concert is basically their peak performance, Ray and Robby and John were on point with instruments, so coordinated.
kevin Aranda we can only imagine how things would have been had Jim returned home to do the L.A. Woman tour, they intended to take bassist Jerry Scheff on the road and another guitar player. What I would do to see that album played live. :/
@@gatsbygoodwood2575 Oh yeah, I know they were planning on bringing a bassist this time, It would've been amazing to see Manzarek using both his hands for his amazing solos. It pains me that we never really got a live version of Riders on the storm, Geez can you imagine what they could've done with Riders on the storm? From what I've heard the 4 of them loved that song, In my opinion they prolly wouldve turned it into something similar to "The end" with a very long piano solo and some nice dark poems, Would've been amazing.
The Danish television performance is pro, and I like the Hollywood Bowl 1968.
Live in NY I think in 69 is great.
Fan since since 1991 due to the movie. And that baseline is gold.
Everyone talks about how Jim Morrison was such a great singer, but they don't describe why he was such a great singer. Jim Morrison was really good at singing "in the pocket". He's not only always in rhythm, but he's really good at playing with the rhythm, laying back or attacking the beat to enhance the emotional sense of the lyrics. Other singers can learn a lot by studying him.
As a matter of fact Jim never wished to be such a singer. All his life he wanted to become a poet. Nevertheless, due to some supreme will's choice; he ended up singing his own poems as well as to be known as a rockstar.
Who knows?, Maybe that was such a way for us to know about his poetry.
I remember being there and watching this performance The sound quality on this recording is amazing though . An absolutely magical weekend with Morrison , Hendrix magnificent and yet within a year they were dead far too young and far too soon RIP and thank you for the music and the wonderful memories
