Dear David Harper, I love your new show. Thank you for the hours and hours of U. K. antiques shows you've entertained us with. Please tell all of your co-experts how much we LOVE them as well? Subscribe button pushed!
That’s so kind and I will tell them of course! Thanks for watching! Best wishes, David
It showed how little I know about antiques, but my guess for item five was spot on. An interesting idea David in a world that needs better entertainment than current television programmes.
Cheers for that Richard. I’m really enjoying the freedom to develop the format. David
So turns out I'm better with ceramics! Great idea, good fun. Enjoyed it.
The next episode will be ready to see on Sunday at 6.30pm. I’m also working on a classic car version. I’ll put the first show out on Thursday at 6.30pm
Great Show! Keep them coming. ( Rosie's rather nifty too! )!
Spot on with the painting
However hopeless on the other 4
Nice one Dave keep it up

You got me with the kitchen unit ! Usually you can buy such ‘brown furniture’ for a pittance. Obviously the two bidders were like me, ie. when they want something, they must have it no matter what !
Ditto! Magar.
First...love seeing your puppy!!! Just found these posts of yours and absolutely loving them!!! Thanks again for all your knowledge and sharing it with us. Your #1 FAN
Great fun, thanks David 🙂
Cheers Ian. Classic car version out tomorrow from 6.30pm and the next antique/vintage quiz Sunday from 6.30pm!
Just to let you know that your job is quite safe David! Hubby and myself were almost useless, look forward to doing better on Sunday, really enjoyed it thank you
I’m relieved to hear it! Thanks for playing. D
Great to see you and the new channel. I've enjoyed watching you for years here in Tennessee, USA. Look forward to the future episodes and successful launch. Come on over to America and do some.
Cheers Tim, all the best, David
Colin Warren
I was rubbish with none out of 5. Can only get better. Many thanks David.
You will I promise!
Beautiful portrait ... really a decorative piece ... £750 not signed ... hopefully not too out of the ball park
I sum what surprised myself, by getting very close to the selling prices but couldn't quite see any mark-up leeway for professional resale. The kitchen cabinet proved my desire for industrial distress overcoming my bargain hunt nature.
Yes, I am a collector, maker and (was) prop buyer.
I enjoyed it a lot but was way out in my estimates! I look forward to the next episode.
Very enjoyable, even though I was way off!
New show out on Sunday night at 6.30. This time, I’ll be giving multiple choice answers too!
Fun show I’ve been collecting pre-World War II Mickey Mouse and other comic characters for 35 years roughly and what you would call an expert but I have knowledge in all areas of antiques basically a walking encyclopedia I have a photographic memory and always make money on everything I buy would love to see you bring toys on the show now on the Neil Armstrong piece people love space stuff but the problem with it being is he signed a lot of photographs and it’s personalized if it was just a signature with something like best wishes it would do much better than with someone’s name on it I think it’s sold for 100 pounds I was way off wow , majolica vase 650 pounds wrong again dresser is 600 shabby crabby Chito chic people like ,I was wrong again but I did go higher than the estimate that came down to two people wanting it on the good luck Japanese flag I’m gonna get a little crazy Paul Ladlo Knows military stuff in general he wouldn’t put crap in his auction I’m gonna go crazy and say 800 pounds I’m probably wrong again. On the painting I’m gonna go 500 pounds OK I somewhat redeemed myself I was gonna say 600 but I’m like I already put that in on the dresser oh well always next time very fun show I’ll definitely subscribe and hit the notification bell
Gawd! I'm rubbish!
Photo I thought over £1000
Vase £800
Dresser £180
Flag £80 to £100 (hoooooorah!!!)
Painting £3500!
BUT I'll learn from you!!
Great idea for a youtube show! :)
You’ll get better!! Cheers, D
Good show
Love watching your videos!
Cheers Jack
I missed by a mile on them all 🙈. I must try harder. Great idea though. Good luck.
Nice one David
I did ok on the vase & Scarfe, nearish on the painting & way off on the other 2 items.
“Smashed” the vase :) Otherwise I was hopeless. I’ll do better next week. Great fun, David!
Hi David....Love the concept . I thought I had a bit of an idea when it came to antiques. Turns out I’m absolute garbage. Didn’t get any right ! Nevertheless great fun. Looking forward to the next one. Have to say though mate, Rosie is the real star....a divas performance...striding off set that way.
Only just stumbled across your CZcams channel. Got some catching up to do.
Wishing you every success 👍
Cheers for that Pale Rider, much appreciated D
really enjoyed it David. I will blame my horrid performance on being American and those things being valued differently over here.... thats gotta be it :)
I promise, you’ll get better !
This was fun. I’m looking forward to the next one.
Oh my David, I did terribly and missed everyone by a large amount. This was really hard but very interesting. Thanks for the challenge. I need to research better for future quizzes.
Good luck next time...thanks for watching!
@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV yes, my goal is to get better each time. I'll keep you informed of my progress.
What a fun idea for a video! I did well with the Neil Armstrong photo... seems like most of us saw that one as doing better than the valuation. I wasn't especially close with the others because I couldn't get past what I would pay rather than what someone else would pay... especially for the trashed out kitchen cupboard.
Loved it! First...outhouse means something different in the states. I was thinking that was some outhouse until I realized they are different. Second...I was 3 for 5. Third...I agree about not wanting an ugly man on my wall. Fourth...my only suggestion is to adjust the volume during the thinking music time. The music is quite a bit louder than the rest of the video. Fifth...is that your daughter singing? If so, her voice is beautiful. Well done.
Thanks for watching Melanie, yes the music was a bit loud I discovered (my editing!) I’ll try to reduce it for this Sunday and yes, that’s my daughter Hetti. All the best, David
I was spot on for Neill Armstrong
You got me with the big lump of a dresser. I thought £380!
We were a day late watching, but really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one. Thank you David.
I was correct on the Neil Armstrong photo. What fun.
Great idea David, really enjoyed it even though I was rubbish!! xx
OMG what a high price for this dresser - way out !
Spot on for item 1
How about a themed show...vintage toys, music memorabilia, film related, modern collectibles, 50's, 60's retro....one theme a week. And you could have music relating to the item. Great idea for a lockdown Sunday.
@@christopherwelch1094 Excellent, thank you...also fancy doing a car special !
@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV great idea. And sport, Militaria, sci fi.
Double the actual value on the first item, a £100 over on the second, I went £20 below the lower estimate on the sideboard (so way out there), spot on with the Japanese flag because I thought there would be loads of them like this example and double the value of what the painting actually sold for. Unless you have a rich knowledge of antiques and likely to be working as an auctioneer/dealer already, I suspect a lot of people will simply be putting their finger in the air and hazarding a complete guess.
Hi David, saw your advert on LinkedIn and came on one over, albeit late, so sorry for missing it live, well done on the move to post actively on CZcams I am sure you will do very well, just I guess it will take a bit of time before the algo bots do their job and start suggesting you up to people! But I reckon you will have 100k subscribers before you know it, and then onward and upward!
Cheers Alex, much appreciated D
Thank you David. I really enjoyed the program. Would it be possible to state the dimensions or get a sense of scale of the items you present? I was left wondering about this part with the ceramic and painting.
Wow, I can’t believe how bad I did. Brilliant idea though, great fun.
Cheers Lee...try episode 2!
@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV well I thought I was ok at these but episode two just kicked my arse 🤣 not even close.
I got the first item bang on David. Was a bit wide with the rest! Enjoyed it though. Great first effort. Looking forward to next week.
That's really tough but interesting
Had a feeling the dresser would make a big price .
Might have been helpful to have the dimensions of the portrait but i was within £20 .
Firstly keep Rosie in even if you have to glue her to the seat, being a modern artist I put more value on the space memorabilia but I was itching to transform the Victorian sideboard which almost looked pharmaceutical. Enjoyed the game, bravo, also appreciating the artwork behind you x
Yes, Rosie is defo staying! Thank you Sonnia
I thought the dresser was about 2000 pounds🤪I LOVE IT
Very enjoyable; I did surprisingly ok with my valuations! My constructive feedback is to change the music during the 15 second interval to something softer, also to show different views of the items to help hold interest and give us a deeper insight. Good format though. :)
Thanks Caroline D
I was out a bit on the vase, reminds me of chocolate mint
One out of five, and a near miss, oh well next time
Great idea David. I was near in first item but absolutely rubbish on painting, dresser, flag and vase. how about books as an idea or more ceramics and glass/
Yes they’re all coming up on future shows !
I was spot on for the 1st item, then everything went downhill...pretty far off the sale price! Good bit of fun for a Sunday evening.
I like the game. Fun and educational. Any chance a video on hallmarks? Thank you!
Thanks Kristie
An outhouse in American is an outdoor 🚽 water closet, potty...loo 🤣
Well out on the dresser, I suppose Drew Pritchard would have bought it in some back shed
got them all within 10%
Hi David, loved the quiz - maybe you could have some vintage jewelry next time?
great idea...I will, thanks
Great idea, even if I am rubbish (shows Danny was the star when I was on Bargain Hunt!).
Be great if it was live with you interacting with guesses between items.
How about one really bad item that was worth next to nothing to catch us out?
Will tune in again next week.
yes, I’m thinking of something live, also possibly including viewers items somehow?
That would be really fun and gets people joining in, especially to see what people think our item is worth. 👍
We could send a photo of something we bought recently from auction and include the estimate and paid price for you?
I think we can see why I’m not in the antiques business!
I was on the nose on the vase, which is ugly IMHO despite the connection with Dresser.
Great Video David, I collect Royal Memorabilia, can you feature something of this in a future eposide
yes, a royal memorabilia can really catch people out...good idea!
Sorry, I can't get past the basket. x
Paintings are subject to each person, I prefer landscapes and scenes
Whoops!
Said £500 for Neil
I think she is beautiful! I put 1K - 1500. But I love it!
Great stuff. Only comment is that the incidental music was much too loud.
sorry, that’s my editing skills!
I put 1K -1500
£800 for the bench
£500 for the painting
$750 for the photo.
The Yanks love the first thing! So I was wondering if there was American bidding They would pay $5000 for that! yes, I watch Pawn stars and some others , sad as I am . I watch them dubbed into Spanish, with Spanish subtitles, becuase that is where I live and it helps me learn the language. Breakfast telly! Better than watching Piers Morgan storm off, all chins awobble!
International bidding these days, so lots of Americans buying in UK auctions...thanks for watching! D
But this is quite large so I would guestimate that it reached £550 dresser
Possible silly question. Would one consider the total (plus commission) price to be the actual value of the item to the buyer (should we add 20-30% to all items sold at auction in our heads?)
Yes I’d say so because buyers build in to their calculations the commissions on top of the hammer price.
İnteresting. thanks!
Too high on the prayer flag. Too low on the portrait. The frame was worth more than the portrait, which looked restored. Thanks for a fun challenge.
Did anyone get one or two spot on?
My wife and i played this between us we got the last item correct. I guessed £600, my wife guessed £160 😂 close on the first item but way off on the rest. Will watch again next week 👍
I got the vase and the flag almost right with around £20 difference. I was wrong on the rest. Having watched Phillip Serrel's buying and selling style on antique shows I shouldn't have underestimated the kitchen cupboard :-(
Yep! The vase… probably a fluke, though
@@fionam2823 Thanks for the feedback Fiona. Another one tonight at 6.30!

ok you asked for feedback? - You asked us to "come up with your own valuation" but thats not the game. The game seems to be based on how many auctions I have seen or seen the results of and how many items i can remember the price of.
If you are looking to get a gameshow off the ground this is not it IMO. Someone in the thread mentioned interaction with experts so, how about a guest expert plays against a member of the public, they are both given an item to value the Item then goes to auction and the closest wins the difference between their estimate and the actual sale value (excluding fees). The expert plays for a charity.
you are welcome
Thanks for the feedback Carl. D

Do we post the estimates? Or we just learn more!
Do both ! Post how you’re doing or suggestions for items in future shows!
$600 pounds on the vase
£400
£420
Japanese personal good luck flag .... WW2 - reckon Japanese bid on it ... £300
Is that a lion cub ???
300
Painted lady 175
Picture £500
be good to see some watches, after your recent video
Watches defo coming soon!
@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV look forward to it David
£600
If Philip sold it then £150
Pretty useless with all of the items, however it’s also about gaining knowledge and also having some fun.
£700 for the Vase?
I like the concept and creative thinking. You should tell us a little bit about the details. Meaning/culture, style, materials, condition, Artist or designer, age Providence. Stay safe Mark / BusaccaGallery.com
Thanks Mark, I was wondering how much info to give. I’ll experiment by giving a little more background on one or two pieces if they have a good back story, to see how people feel...Cheers, D
Your presentation will be more effective if you alter your camera angle so you can present yourself from something other than a long shot. It is distancing and does not allow for visual variety.
Totally off on the Victorian lump. Phillip Serrel knows his old, derelict furniture.
He does love big lumps of wood!
Dresser I said 2thousand soly because I watch SALVAGE HUNTERS and Drew boys a lot of things like that the rest a disaster
