    Any idea why I can't read my process value when I am monitoring PID setup screen? The related register assigned as PV in the PLC, takes values with no problem. I can read scaled error values. Thanks.

    At 10:30 you're using a move instruction to the analog output, but I noticed it's an integer.
    I tried doing the same thing, but used a floating point to get more accuracy, but the analog output just rounded up or down.
    Is it possible to use a floating point for analog 4-20mA output?

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  Před 3 lety +3

      No and we've brushed on this in several videos but I don't know that we have ever addressed it directly. While analog is "infinite", the it comes into the PLC as digitally with a certain bit resolution. In the case of the Micrologix, it is 12 bit resolution which means that it chops the full scale into 4096 increments. Now someone will probably come along and correct me and say that the Micrologix is "15 bit" resolution since its scale 0-32760. However, the Micrologix shifts the data by 3 bits, ignoring bits 0, 1, and 2 and placing the data in bits 3-14. I should do a video on this...oh wait, as I type this I remember I wrote an article about this. See link below.

    Is there a good way to 'initialize' the PID output? A way to keep it from always starting up at its lowest value or ramping up to its highest value if its the controlled device was shut off?
    For example: always having a pump start up at 30% speed and then the PID starts adjusting from there.

    How would I get the scaled value without being able to just turn the fan speed all the way up and see where the ball is? Like if I had a tank that I was trying to get the level for and there was a level indicator, how would I go about getting the full value of the tank without actually filling it up to see what numbers I’m going to get back from the level indicator input?

    You said F8:1 was an unused floating point number but it became the input for the scaled with parameters function. Where does the F8:1 obtain its data value if there is not a function outputting to that data storage? How does F8:1 become and input when it is just a register? In the previous SCP F8:0 was the output.

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  Před 3 lety +2

      Shooting from the hip since I didn't watch it before replying but wasn't F8:1 the level set point? This is the desired level for the PID and we manually enter it. The 2nd SCP scales the value which we entered via the data table to PID units.

      Thanks Tim for your great work, do you please mind clarifying the use of the F8:1 float and it is unused and it's still puzzles me where it's getting its input from. I would have expected you to use F8:0 rather.

    First, I thank you for this video
    Secondly I have a question
    What is the difference between raw/proportional scale and pid scale ??
    and Are the binary Scaled numbers is fixed for all modules 1762-IF4 and OF4 and IF2OF2 for the two option raw/proportional and pid ??
    Meaning is the numbers 0 to 32767 is constant for 1762-IF4 and OF4 and IF2OF2 when i configured raw/proportional Or it differs from one module to another and the same thing with PID scale configuration for analog input/Output

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  Před 3 lety +1

      PID scale is 0-10,000. The raw formats of those three numbers are the same but it is good to check because not all of them are the same across the Micrologix line. Check out this link.
