Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer Roland JX-3P from 1983.
In this movie I play some of my own sounds - on some sounds I used a small amount of digital delay from a Roland DEP-5. In the intro I used the sequencer of the JX-3P.

THE SOUND PROGRAMS IN THIS MOVIE:
Would you like these sounds for your JX-3P ?
AnalogAudio1 is proud to present the professional "ANALOGAUDIO1 JX-3P PATCH BANK" featuring 64 highly useful patches (two banks á 32 patches), including fat analog pads, great retro sounds, fantastic basses, sequencer sounds and funky leads (all the sounds you hear in the video and more).
As an experienced synth player and composer I created these patches for professional use. This bank gets the most out of your Roland JX-3P. Included is a patch list (PDF), which helps you find the right sound quickly.
This unique sound package will inspire you and add more character to your music - which is essential to be successful!
This bank comes as an audio file for the built in tape interface of your JX-3P. The patch loading procedure is described in the manual. Just instead of a tape you play an audio file.
The "ANALOGAUDIO1 JX-3P PATCHBANK" costs 16 Euros, payment is via Paypal. If you want to buy it, send a message to
    analogaudio1@gmx.net
    (or to: analogaudio1[at]t-online.de)
IMPORTANT: NOW KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR SPAM/JUNK FOLDER! I answer within 12 hours.
After payment you will get the bank (including a patch list) to your email address.
The patches are royalty free. Use them for your music as you prefer! Buying this soundset you purchase the right to use these sounds in your music, releases and gigs. Other use is not allowed - such as sharing, reselling, making sample packs, including them in commercial patch collections etc.
    FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
    -----------------------------------------------------
QUESTION: This video is several years old. Are these patches still available?
    ANSWER: Yes!
QUESTION: What do I need to load these patches into my synth?
ANSWER: You need a jack cable, a computer or smartphone to play the wav file and your synth. You don't need a tape recorder, the data signal comes from the audio file.
QUESTION: How does the patch loading process work?
ANSWER: It's exactly described in the JX-3P's manual, which you can download for free. Just instead a tape, you play the wav. It's easy.
QUESTION: My synth is modded/expanded - can I load this patch bank?
ANSWER: These patches were created on the original model. The best way to find out is to ask the developer if his mod is compatible with the original, if so then yes.
QUESTION: Can I load these sounds into the Roland Botique JX-03?
ANSWER: No, as they are not compatible.

It's $250 but you essentially get a new synth for that with 100% of the tone and base character of the JX-3P.

Wow, this really brings me back. The JX-3P was my first synth. If I had room for another keyboard, I would definitely pick up another JX-3P. I own pretty much all the classic Roland analog racks (MKS-50, MKS-7, MKS-70, and MKS-80). But there is a unique "spikiness" to the JX-3P that really isn't replicated by the other Roland synths, IMO.

JX-3P, the first MIDI synthesizer series by Roland. IMHO this is one of Roland's best synthesizers ever, for its versatile range as you can hear in this video. Its analog, but it can sound DX7-ish at times. In fact DX-7 was it's #1 competition in 1983, but the DX-7 won the battle, while JX-3P was forgotten, and now underrated, which means cheaper price for a vintage analog. The sequencer is very basic however, so there is no hold for transpose key while playing octaves in the sequencer. Just keep your finger there. I tried tape but its not weighted so it gets loose, so I used a bottle of water to keep a weight on it.

i both own the jx3p and jx8p both with programmers and a midi kit for the jx3p .. both fantastic synths. it's hard to compare because in the small overlap that they might have they can sound completely different. the jx3p has a more vintage dramatic feel in particular with strings. they both have quite some bottom end, the filters sound different. the 8p with it's unison and more modulation options can sound louder. both can also be used for producing some great sfx.

They're great synths if you can get them with the pg200 for less than 600 UKP in my opinion, and ive owned it twice and the first one was £200 second hand with the programmer..that was back in the 90's. It'd be up there with the classics if the lfo speed was faster at top whack, and the midi was better, but it isnt out of the box, and mods are available if you're so inclined to go that route ( I can hear that one of the patches you play, which is a pad, has portamento style sounds, which is either a long pitch envelope sweeping in or a modification, as it doesnt have portamento on factory spec). But it does have cross mod, osc sync and a great chorus, not to mention the built in sequencer for off the wall and quick draw ideas.

Pg200 is a programmer so that you can edit the sounds without using the menus to change parameters, its not necessarily the best option as its old and expensive whereas you can buy a brand new one cheaper from another company like mode machines DT200 . You can use an amp with effects pedal yes, just plug the audio out into the effects and the effects pedal to the amp.
