- "Dishonored Lady" (1947) is a film starring Hedy Lamarr, Dennis O'Keefe, John Loder, William Lundigan, and Natalie Schafer, directed by Robert Stevenson, and released by United Artists. The film is based on the play Dishonored Lady (1930) by Edward Sheldon and Margaret Ayer Barnes.
Madeleine Damien is the fashion editor of a slick Manhattan magazine by day and a lively party girl by night. Unfortunately, the pressures of her job, including kowtowing to a hefty advertiser, and her bad luck with men are driving her to a breakdown. She seeks the help of a psychiatrist, and under his orders, quits her job and moves into a smaller flat under a new identity. She becomes interested in painting and a handsome neighbor. He soon finds out about her past when an ex-suitor implicates her in a murder.

Hollywood would be wise to review comments and sees what makes a successful movie! And to think not one cuss word, no cheap nudity. All natural beauty and strong gentlemen characters. No PC! Just quality!

I love these old movies. These were the days when the movie stars were naturally beautiful and handsome. The love scenes were so mysterious and beautiful!
Hate to burst your bubble, but they had the very best makeup artists, colorist and fashion designers. They even designed for figure type. Padding and girding was available as needed.

Lighting and even filters on camera lens were also used. In Hollywood, nothing is “real”. There’s no denying that many that act are naturally beautiful, but they sure are even more beautiful thanks to Hollywood’s special effects.
Not to mention you had to be preternaturally beautiful to even make it into Hollywood those days, which is nice for us to look at but it made characters harder to relate to. They didn’t look like regular human beings, they looked like actors.

Morris Carnovsky who played the psychiatrist played that role excellent.
I love seeing the wicked witch from the wizard of Oz in these old movies!
It melted my heart when he asked her to marry her. She finally found happiness. Then at the court room, he confessed his love for her. Mostly of all, at the airport, he took her in his arms and kissed her. It’s every woman’s dream. I know it’s definitely mine. Love the story.

Thank you! Loved this movie. Just like most all movies from this era it actually had a story that made me want to find out what happened, even though I knew it would have a happy ending (again, like most movies from this era). Also, the sets are so well put together as is wardrobe. Hedy Lamarr reminds me of Vivienne Leigh, so beautiful.

Hedyv Lamarr was gifted intellectually and was an inventor. She invented something called frequency hopping that became the foundation for wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth technology. There is a video about her that focuses on her inventions. I watched it awhile back and can't remember the name. She was just as interesting as she was beautiful.

It has been refined as our technology advanced, short and long wave spectrums and spreading certain ways was already known, but they did come up with a creative way to do it during a time where there was no electronic resistors but mechanical and magnetic devices to change frequencies

The wonderful effects of light and shadow mastery in black and white cinematography isn't often appreciated enough by viewers these days, but the good cinematographers of today are always rapt with awe and appreciation.

This movie shows how women, no matter how smart and successful they are, were still treated as second class citizens, even by their own gender. Ms Lamar herself invented wifi but when she presented it to the navy generals, they told her, pretty lady's should stick to acting. That didn't stop them from trying to steal credit

The inference of the prosecutor at the trial is that anyone going to a psychiatrist must be criminal.
Classy movie- great cast. New York at its night club/ fashion magazine best. Hedy fabulously beautiful of course- underrated actress portraying a vulnerable, talented, witty, intelligent, perceptive art director wise enough to face her demons and start over. Love the psychiatrist- he gave good advice to her-and 20 million listeners. I believe co star Bill Lundigan became her second husband.

Great movie - thanks! I’m on a Hedy Lamarr kick this weekend. This is the third Hedy movie I’ve watched so far. When I was in my twenties I was told I looked like her. At the time I had no idea of what she looked like, but he was right - I did look like her. I also learned that she was brilliant. She worked for the military and invented something? (Sorry I can’t remember the details.🥴)
She should have invented the first cctv-technology! But I don't believe that, to be honest. It was said that in the end no director in Hollywood wanted to work with her anymore because she was lazy and behaved arrogant and stuck-up to other staff members. In the fifties she took part in TV_Shows like "What ' s my line"! Her daughter mentioned in an interview that she needed to see a psychiatrist for years because she was so traumatized of Heddys behaviour.
I once saw a documentary with her two children and they took her ashes and buried it in Vienna , Hedy was an Austrian citizen and came to Hollywood when she was very young.

Well I don't know if anybody would find this interesting but something just occurred to me first of all I love watching old films and Hedy Lamarr such a beauty and the scenes and the costumes and the sets are so nostalgic so I turned on this movie and I remember thinking that Hollywood was such a simpler different and much more beautiful and classic place back in the forties and for some reason the Miracle Mile popped into my head because it has a lot of old buildings where friends of mine lived when I lived in Los Angeles in the 70s but oh wait a minute Hedy Lamarr back in the 60s was arrested for shoplifting in the Miracle Mile at the May Company on Wilshire so I guess life wasn't as simple as I thought it was La just looked better that's all

Now that was a Great"old movie!" What I am going to say may be "Poo_Pooed" but this movie showed a great actress in Miss Lamarr beside her usually studio glamour puss stuff. Of course she is Gorgeous in it with some of the gowns and a hats,l but the part was much deeper and she was far less over glammed. Miss Lamarr was incredibly smart person known for some important invention that we are all using even today!!!!! 5 Stars

On trial she was asked if courtland forced her to go with him, and she said no, but actually he threw her in the car, so I don't get the story here, yes she was forced to go back with him because she was going to walk, he insisted, she said no, he grabbed her and tossed her in. Can someone help me out, or is my reality not working anymore 😂
He did maneuver her; especially when he saw she was tipsy.

She was still punishing herself.....or at least not wanting to make any excuses for herself. Her guilt was still not quite settled, which would be perfectly understandable. Too "perfect" of an immediate recovery to change her into becoming self-confident and normal (as we presume normal to be) in just a few minutes on the stand would have seemed too phony, too artificial, lacking mystery. Remember, even after the trial she was still going to head off on her own to straighten herself out even more. She was still a work in progress, but finally on the right path. This was a journey of a lifetime reduced to the time a movie would allow. You mentioned reality. Actually, this did present a believable reality. Also, from the very start (the self-destructive wreck) to the very end this was intended to be a study in psychology. It was much more than a murder mystery.
