- January 1979 Raw footage highlights from the Montreal Forum - Canadiens shut out the Atlanta Flames 6-0, Dan Bouchard allowed four goals and was pulled in favour of 24-year-old rookie Reggie Lemelin
Goals scored by: Guy Lafleur (x2), Steve Shutt (x2), Mario Tremblay, Doug Jarvis
Goaltenders: #1 Michel 'Bunny' Larocque (MTL), #30 Dan Bouchard & #1 Reggie Lemelin (ATL)
It’s been 40 plus years now and it’s easy to forget and for those who never saw them it’s hard to imagine just how incredible the mid to late 70’s Canadiens team was. I saw them destroyed the Red Wings at the Forum one Saturday night in 1975, the final score was 12-1. It was like watching a Midget AAA play five year old kids. Only the Bruins, the Flyers and starting in 78 the Islanders could play with them, everyone else was just out class
I also saw them blow out the Colorado Rockies during March 1977, just toyed with them. Final 8 - 1 Mtl.
I don't think that they had an easy time with the Sabres.
This is almost like as live as it gets, without it being live in person.
About ten yrs ago announcers for RDS went on strike. it was awesome, the games were shown on tv with no commentary.
@Greg Holman. Yup. Raw footage. Sometimes I don’t like listening to commentary as the game is playing.
That's the first hockey game I ever saw live... what a treat!
Flames had an awesome kit in those days!
1:34 Poor Reggie Lemelin looks up and sees Shutt and Lafleur 2-0...what could ANY goalie do against those two? lol.
Larry "Big Bird" Robinson wearing a helmet? Perhaps a trial.
I think he might have been coming back from injury. It was probably another 4-5 years before he started wearing one full time.
Strange , Lafleur stickhandling and skating looks more like mid-1980's nhl players compare to others in that game !
Not that strange, he was the best player of the time afterall. Orr looks even better 10 years before this.
1:50 Does Laroque throw his stick to preserve the shutout?
Maybe should have been a penalty shot. Refs hardly ever made that call back then.
Did they give Napier a penalty shot on that first breakaway?
Ken Dryden must've had the night off. Bunny Larocque in goal?
hey he had to play sometime!
Calgary didn't show up on this night.
It was Atlanta not Calgary
@@l.stella9647 Same difference.
Actually it's not. Different city different division different year and different roster smart ass!
@@l.stella9647 I know what i know what i know.
Everyone is sooo slow here compared to today's players....except Lafleur! Shots from the blue line get stopped 98% of the time today but Montreal's passing and team play still holds up.
Red line included
thats because the goalies of today look like michelin men in net with all that over size equipment on lol
@@benlavallee1368 Yes, and also of course most of the modern NHL goalies are such big men themselves, as it tends to be such the case. But, yes, the gear they wear tends to be more than sufficient, more than adequate, and likely more than necessary, too.
@@benlavallee1368 I like to say they look like zeppelins.
Yawn more steroid hockey better than old hockey
goaltending was godawful compared to today go hand go
This was before Patrick Roy popularized the butterfly. Everyone used standup style, with a few exceptions (e.g. Esposito, Tretiak, Palmateer)
Standup goaltending was exciting, but it was made obsolete once forwards became more skilled at stick-handling.
The need to counter strong offenses, coupled with advances in equipment, made the Butterfly Style a necessity. Since then, goaltending has improved by a LOT.
That was the time when goalies couldn't stop a beach ball.
Ken Dryden couldn't stop a beach ball ?
This was before Roy popularized the butterfly.
This was the time when goalies did not wear ten foot large pads and stood up, todays goalies would not survive that type of playing
