As an old man now in my 30's, Macans get more and more appealing to me every day. It seems like a near perfect one car solution to the "haul all my stuff but also fun for back road blast" conundrum. Now I just gotta start making enough money to afford one, lol 😅

I have the GTS and drove it up to Julian For the weekend for a Wedding. I am able to tell you that its very curvy and Sport Mode is required. I put it into just sport mode not Sport Plus and I was hashing it out with a motorbike if that tells you anything. I mean it felt as quick and agile as my CRX and powerful and well balanced like my Supra. It has the Stick and the Grip to keep you planted and that AWD Keeps you glued to every turn.

Having grown up in Malibu, definitely had friends who had accidents up in the canyons. 2 acquaintances died when a car pulled out of one of the side canyon streets without checking for traffic. That being said canyon driving is never what scared me, it was driving on PCH in the summer when you get tourists who I can't even think on a level low enough to understand what they were trying to do driving around.

Easily the best handling, and overall packaging. It really came down to Macan v Jag for me, and I've made peace with the fact it won't be nearly as nimble in my favorite canyons as the Macan, but on my daily commute I get to listen to that old v8 rumble and I just can't but smile. That and the Macan can get outrageously expensive when start playing the option game :)

I would say CA needs Malibu Canyon to make up for all the I-5 traffic. I'm fortunate to be in NC near the mountains. Not as dramatic views but plenty of great roads. Not just the Tail of the Dragon or Blue Ridge Parkway but all of the roads climbing the mountains to get there. You can ascend and descend them all day long.

I would go RS5 Sportback without a doubt. Super practical as it has a hatch so it’s close in cargo space to the macan (albeit missing a little of that vertical space that the Macan has), really fast (more powerful and lighter than the Macan), more sporty and better handling as it’s a sedan, better bang for buck when it comes to features, and it’s not a cross over which is for better or worse depending on the person.

@@TedwardDrives I don't know how much flexibility or control you have over your trips but if you do get up to the Bay Area one of these days, set aside an early morning (too many tourists later in the day!) and try to get in a run from Mill Valley (North end of the Golden Gate Bridge) on Hwy 1 up the Marin and Sonoma County coast to Jenner. The roads are a lot like what you saw on PCH but much more remote. I've lived about 20 minutes east of Bodega Bay for a bit more than the last 50 years and learned that road on a 1967 Yamaha YR1 Cafe Racer. I was stationed on Treasure Island at the Navy Electronics School in 1967/68 and just had to take that coast road home every Friday afternoon. I switched from Yamaha hot rods to BMWs in 1969 and guess what... these things have doors and you can't fall down!! Cool!! After learning just how far you can get your knees down on Hwy 1 you can scare the crap out of your buddies in a really capable car. I've had a lot of fun over the years, on that road.
