I think the thing that really set Stallone apart from a lot of other action guys was his training ethic and his conditioning. Nobody trained and dieted harder than him. He maintained a crazy physique year round. The only action star I can think of that stays in shape year round right now is the Rock. That brings me to the second thing that set Stallone apart - his humility. The Rock is his own biggest fan. He's SO cocky! I don't know, they just don't make them like they used to.

Sylvester Stallone is pure Americana. He epitomizes what makes America great. Rocky, Rambo, The Expendables and I am loving Tulsa King. His characters are what every man aspires to be. He trains his body to perfection, he is the most credible and intense actor I have ever seen. Sylvester Stallone is larger than his legendary characters. Two men that epitomize Americana to me are Sylvester and Elvis. I just love them.

Yea, the stick fight has to be one of the most intense fighting scenes in cinema. I remember as a kid, I kept closing my eyes and jumping from my seat. I felt like I was there. It has some great cinematography and sound design. In the end, when the fighter is lying down, Rambo's rival expects a death blow is coming. Then, Rambo shows compassion when he finally realizes the fear in his opponent, after he begins coming down from the adrenaline rush.
I hate what a lot of Hollywood is releasing today. The last Rambo film, for me, was such a let down. However, I always wanted a film when Rambo was in Vietnam as a Green Beret. A film depicting the lethality he had with The Special Forces teams.

I remember watching this stick fighter, then named Harold Roth, at his dojo in Miami, back around 1978, soon after I began Tae Kwon Do lessons elsewhere. Just looking around town at other dojos and instructors, to see if I wanted to learn other styles. I peeked in the door of this dojo and saw sensei Roth performing awesome high roundhouse kicks to a heavy bag. I was thoroughly impressed, but alas, I was a poor college kid, and didn't follow up with this style. It wasn't until many years later that I learned that he was in this movie, still looking awesome, after being a very successful kick boxer. How I rued missing that opportunity to learn from him.
