My first exposure to Monty was this when it was originally released. Going back and watching it after RWBY you can actually see where a lot of RWBYs style came from.
I remember when this first came out, I was finish up an assignment in the computer lab and a classmate showed me this back in 06-07 when Gametrailers had a community with original shows (RIP Screwattack) Monty was a rockstar in the GT community, rest easy Monty cause we miss you homie and like you always used to say: life short, take pictures
the idea was that the girls from the Final Fantasy franchise (expanded to Square Enix with the inclusion of a Kingdom Hearts character) were basically just "sparring" with the girls from Dead or Alive (later expanded to Tecmo/Team Ninja). mostly in good fun (or at least in good sport) right up until Helena and Hayate from DoA (blonde not-sephiroth lady and redhead ninja dude, respectively) start fighting dirty- for Mysterious Reasons- by sending out cloned versions of Kasumi (ninja girl in blue) and ambushing Tifa with ninja mooks when she was still hurt from fighting Hitomi. both Kasumi and Hitomi thought that was bad sport; hence the mass-teleport to kill clones and The Slap, respectively sadly Monty died while making these, so we're never gonna know how that was all gonna shake out; whole series left on a big "to be continued"

@6Qubed In the team fight, they kept bailling each other out of serious injuries. Tifa vs Kasumi, Kasumi got a head wound that bleed into her eyes, and Tifa got materia ripped out of her and was soaked in blood before Mugen Tenshin ninjas arrived.
Also the guy in white is Hayate, he's a SPECIAL ninja who trained with Hitomi for a bit. His overwhelming power is basically straight out of the game, though it doesn't look like that when you're playing as him. But back around that time he was basically _the_ broken character, so that's why he's styling on everybody so effortlessly.
4:40 that would be Tifa. She wears attire from "Advent Children" 13:10 at this point it essentially became a developer battle Square Enix VS Team Ninja. Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts VS Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden
Btw Tifa was in her Advent Children outfit which is what through you off. Yuna (gun slinger and summoner) is the Female Lead of FFX and protagonist of FFX-2 The person Cloud saved her from is named Kasumi she the main protagonist of the first Dead or Alive game. She was killing the clones of her because there from something called project ALPHA, which is by the villain of the series.
@@DimiDawg It's a fighting game known for its fan service. I enjoy the series but unfortunately the current game is a micro transition mess. Its better known for its Beach Volleyball spin-off currently. Although all of the Ninja Gaiden games are good.
I was in the AMV scene from 2001 to 2005. At the time, Monty's work took off when he made Haloid (Master Chief vs Samus). It was out of this world. Then he started the Dead Fantasy series (which I was lucky that he attended my local con and was giving out DF 1 and 2 on DVD to the audience at a panel). He got several more in before being hired at Rooster teeth. While working on RvB he got the idea for RWBY from like a ketchup stain on a napkin that was like the map of Remnant. The rest was history. The cool thing about Dead Fantasy is that you can see a lot of the action from inspired old movies like Drunken Master. Those old Kung Fu and Hong Kong action films is also reflected into RWBY so I think that is why there are a lot of similarities. As much as I wish that the DF series finished, I am glad we got RWBY that was born from his and CRWBY's original ideas/characters.
Y’all have to give props to Hitomi.. the dead or alive girl in jeans .. She is the only character in the series fighting without power.. Well until she stole the materia from Tifa . Much love ❤️ for Hitomi. One of my favorite characters in DOA
lol. I'm surprised you didn't recognize Tifa, Yuna and Rikku. I guess it happens though -- not necessarily a negative remark. Though, if I recall, Rikku only stole Ayane's sword to keep her from hitting Yuna. But to have a fair fight, and probably due to lack of actual interest in it, Rikku then gave it back. Yuna is always her to priority. Dead Fantasy II is, by far, my favorite -- although DFVI definitely had the potential to take #1, if only... And, I say this a lot but I'll do it again anyway: Rinoa was also Monty's favorite FF character. That probably explains her grand entrance where everyone else only had a few seconds of intro. I think she's also the only character he portrays correctly, save for her abilty to fly. FFVIII is my all-time favorite too, so I was thrilled to see it get represented in this series! So glad to see another reaction to this series. It's just a shame it didn't get to finish properly. Monty had planned everything up to DFIX, at least. Tifa was supposed to return and be "crazy awesome" in one of the future episodes.

The last video was the preview to Dead Fantasy 7. Dead Fantasy 6 was supposed to be Rikku vs Ayane and that was supposedly his favorite episode. By the time he died, I think his videos were about 90% done (6,7,8,9 a/b/c/d/e).
Kasumi killing her clones is just a nod to the actual series. She was cloned and in DOA2, that clone was set out to replace her, although the clone being unsuccessful. Her clone later turned into Apha-152 and the game has this thing for Kasumi going out to defeat her clones.
Awesome! You guys reacted to Dead Fantasy! First time I saw it the choreo blew my mind. And you can see alot of RWBY moves and sequences in this. Especially the Pyrrah v Penny fight. Even the glyphs. Monty not only knew how to animate a fight so that it just flowed, he knew how to animate a multi person fight without making you feel like your missing something going on. I far cry from the fight scenes in RWBY now. Disconnected, janky and distracting with cut a ways.. Dude, could you image how the fight scenes would look now with the new animation engines if Monty was still alive!! I understand writing was not his strong suit, which is why he left that to others for the fine details. But the fight scenes and choreo, all him! (till he died.) Simply masterful.
I think the original release date of 1 is 2007 and 2 maybe the next year. I remember Dead Fantasy III, IV and VI crashing Game Trailers / Screw Attacks site when they released in 2009. He made that Gunblade special for Rinoa, I think he called it The Vanishing Star.
He started it (episodes came out yearly at first) to show of his skill set and get a better job. Between ep. 2 and 3 is when he did his own artistic renders of all the characters instead of using renders pulled from the games.
If you don't know who the doa AKA Dead or alive characters are and you only know final fantasy then this will give you a good idea of what they can do👇🏾

The thing I like the most about her inclusion is that she is literally the only one here that doesn't have some kind of supernatural background (unless it was added in later DoA).

If your unaware Ryu hayabusa from Ninja gaiden is from Dead or alive as well their universe is connected just waiting for Ninja Gaiden 4😭😭😭😭 but the girl in the blue that can teleport name is Kasumi and the clones you seen was her but they came to kill and replace the orginal if you see closely in the fight where she was fighting Yuna you could see the clones were also attacking her as well but it's easy to miss tho, Yes there making a Remake of Dead Fantasy and may finish the story.

Hey Guys, Final fantasy, tekken, dead or alive (throw some soul caliber too)... mix these things = dead fantasy, you can see tekken and dead or alive moves in the action with monty twists. Monty is king of action choreography, and we lost him far too soon.
I think Monty's favourite ff game was 8, not too sure but it did inspire a lot of RWBY's world, from the technology of vale and the school system alongside Soul Eater's dwma, only played an hour of FF8 but just ran around in balamb

This is a solo project before rooster teeth. They hired him for RvB after seeing this. Then they gave him the budget to do RWBY. This is unfinished because he was hired. Dead Fantasy could not be monotized due to the characters in it. So he stopped the passion project to do what he loved while also earning money from it. Sad to never see it finished, but I understand why. His passing is one of the saddest unfair accidents I have ever heard. You go to the doctor to do the right thing...and then he is gone. Best 3d fight cooreographer there has ever been. Life is unfair...starting to relive that sadness all over again. You will be missed Monty.
In part 4? the reason Hitomi slapped him was NOT because "you took my enemy" rather she is an Honorable fighter who believes in fighting fairly, What he did, overpowering Tifa with other ninja then knocking her out himself, was NOT a fair fight.
As she faces off against Hitomi, Tifa is depicted as having 16 materia, the maximum loadout allowed in FF7 Classic. Based on color, she seems to be carrying the following (top to bottom, by limb): R. Arm = Red, Purple, Green, Yellow. L. Arm = Red, Blue, Purple, Green. R. Leg = Purple(?), Green, Blue, Green. L. Leg = Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple. The way Monty has framed this combat makes red materia essentially useless; they take too long to Summon, and are perhaps too powerful (they are essentially an instant attack; time stops for both sides while the summoning animation plays; as FF7 classic summons, they would behave in that fashion, not as Yuna’s - or even FF7 Remake’s - persistent aeons. Monty has tacitly disallowed them. For this reason, I rule that the ambiguously-colored materia in Tifa’s right leg (which shifts from purple to red as the camera pivots around her) is a useful purple instead of a useless red. Just to get SOME use out of the red-blue pairing on her left arm, I assign an inobvious passive "Titan + Elemental" to add Earth element to all of her physical strikes. This also lends, under arcade-battle world laws, the resistance to hot lava she demonstrates later. The second red I say is Ifrit, to keep the element in her inventory, even if she never used it (assume she switched out green Fire for this at some point between battles) *To summarize, she is carrying 2 red, 2 yellow, 5 green, 3 blue, and 4 purple.* She is observed to have cast the following: Fire, Ice, Stop (All), Haste (All), Lightning, Barrier, and Ultima. I believe the green lightning that went with the black sphere cast as a finisher during the “falling battle” indicates it is Ultima and NOT Demi. Tactically, Demi cannot be a finishing blow anyway, it will always leave an opponent with at least 1 HP; it’s best used against fresh opponents. Any gamer worth their salt would be carrying green materia like Flare, Contain, Transform, etc. but nope, that’s too OP, can’t do that here. Knock out the easiest 1st, *Purple.* After eliminating all the ones with abilities not demonstrated, this leaves us with four stat enhancers, MP+, HP+, Speed+, and Luck+. I especially like Luck+, for reasons explained next. For *Yellow, first,* "Sense" is generally prudent when facing unknown opponents. *Second,* while NOT the best general-purpose choice (Double Cut), Deathblow seems not only possible but plausible; it arranges a trade-off between accuracy and damage, the bearer doesn’t hit as often, but every hit scored is “critical” (150% damage). In an RPG setting, where accuracy is typically very high, near guaranteed, that’s not so bad. In this 3D arena, against ninja opponents with unearthly levels of evasion, well, she misses A LOT, even WITH the Luck+ materia (meant to dovetail with this materia). There are two types of magic demonstrated where Tifa is able to affect more than one target, which implies green spell and blue "ALL" materia have to be adjacent.: Time magic (Stop and Haste) and Barrier. This leaves us with three green materia...but four more spell effects (Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Ultima) we have to account for! Which means she either switched materia between rounds at some point, or Monty made a mistake by not thinking it through when he was painting glowing colored dots on her. Since Monty must be infallible ;) let’s work with what we see. Tifa most recently, in the falling stage, cast Lightning and Ultima. That must be two of them. Her best luck with any casting was Ice, so let's say that's the third. As noted before, Fire element is kept available (even if never cast) in the form of the Ifrit red materia. THEREFORE my best interpretation of Tifa's materia loadout is: L. Arm: Titan ↔ Elemental, HP+, Lightning R. Arm: Ifrit, MP+, Ultima, Deathblow L. Leg: Time ↔ All, Sense, Speed+ R. Leg: Luck+, Ice, All ↔Barrier
If you know all the characters from all the games dead or alive and final fantasy, you can tell where he was going with the story. I’m so saddened that it’ll never be finished. Nobody can recreate Monty Oums fight scenes.
I don't know much but I knew enough that the feathers showing up around Tifa, Cloud, and the one Kairi held and struck to transform heavily hints that Rinoa could have gathered all the FF Square Enix people together (also explains why the first three cheered when Rinoa joined them) for some reason (that reason probably involving Squall since she has his gunblade for some reason and I think sorceresses tend to go insane when they lose their knight)
Interesting, you recognized Yuna's FFX-2 outfit but not Rikku's! Yes, that was Tifa in all black, her Advent Children costume (and presentation of materia). The 1st flying aeon as Valefor, not Bahamut. As much as I love Monty's work overall, I have a problem with how Hitomi was able to literally beat the materia out of Tifa. In general, thieving is a specific special talent that _reduces a character's overall fighting ability,_ especially when you can yoink not only stray cash but pluck _equipped_ equipment (weapon, armor, etc.) from an enemy (FF Tactics thief style), or Rikku herself in FFX compared to Auron, Wakka, Tidus, or Kimahri! Hitomi, already supreme by virtue of being a pure brawler, i.e. lacking Ayane or Kasumi's rangestrikes, being able to systematically strip Tifa of her advantage was manifestly unfair! Monty also forget that equipping materia (in FF7 Classic, which is all he had to go on) _lowers physical stats,_ so as all of those were forcibly unequipped, Tifa's fighting strength should have been rising! I have an issue with how QUICKLY the infinite number of Kasumi-clones took down Yuna's aeons (and the fact that there WAS an infinite number, so that whatever casualties Yuna and her aeons inflicted were literally meaningless), how neatly Kasumi's already OP teleportation negated Bahamut & Valefor's best defense, high evasion rating due to being flyers -- other characters would have had to pick away at them with (weaker) rangestrikes.
Materia generally speaking doesn't make you strong, they add special abilities, and actually reduce your physical stats a little when equipped. At least, in FF7 Classic, which is what Monty was going from here. Green is a single spell (Fire, ice, lightning, haste, stop, flare, etc.). Yellow is a command (Steal, Throw, Double Cut, Chakra, etc.). Red is a summons (not usable in the arcade-style setting of DF), Blue are support Materia (add area affect to otherwise single-target spells, etc.), Purple are various sorts of buffs, the only ones that do make you stronger.

FF8 was actually my least favorite of the series, I never could enjoy it due to the magic system. My favorite OP move from the series was Knights of the Round from FF7. You would summon them and each knight would attack separately, then you gave your other characters a materia called Mime?, And it would duplicate the last move performed which basically gave you a double cast of it.
I love how EVERYONE desperately looks for a part 7. I remember when I did hoping for a Hayabusa vs Valentine fight.

If your unaware Ryu hayabusa from Ninja gaiden is from Dead or alive as well their universe is connected just waiting for Ninja Gaiden 4😭😭😭😭 but the girl in the blue that can teleport name is Kasumi and the clones you seen was her but they came to kill and replace the orginal if you see closely in the fight where she was fighting Yuna you could see the clones were also attacking her as well but it's easy to miss tho, Yes there making a Remake of Dead Fantasy and may finish the story.

Hey Guys, Final fantasy, tekken, dead or alive (throw some soul caliber too)... mix these things = dead fantasy, you can see tekken and dead or alive moves in the action with monty twists. Monty is king of action choreography, and we lost him far too soon.

This is a solo project before rooster teeth. They hired him for RvB after seeing this. Then they gave him the budget to do RWBY. This is unfinished because he was hired. Dead Fantasy could not be monotized due to the characters in it. So he stopped the passion project to do what he loved while also earning money from it. Sad to never see it finished, but I understand why. His passing is one of the saddest unfair accidents I have ever heard. You go to the doctor to do the right thing...and then he is gone. Best 3d fight cooreographer there has ever been. Life is unfair...starting to relive that sadness all over again.
You will be missed Monty.

In part 4? the reason Hitomi slapped him was NOT because "you took my enemy" rather she is an Honorable fighter who believes in fighting fairly, What he did, overpowering Tifa with other ninja then knocking her out himself, was NOT a fair fight.
As she faces off against Hitomi, Tifa is depicted as having 16 materia, the maximum loadout allowed in FF7 Classic. Based on color, she seems to be carrying the following (top to bottom, by limb): R. Arm = Red, Purple, Green, Yellow. L. Arm = Red, Blue, Purple, Green. R. Leg = Purple(?), Green, Blue, Green. L. Leg = Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple.
The way Monty has framed this combat makes red materia essentially useless; they take too long to Summon, and are perhaps too powerful (they are essentially an instant attack; time stops for both sides while the summoning animation plays; as FF7 classic summons, they would behave in that fashion, not as Yuna’s - or even FF7 Remake’s - persistent aeons. Monty has tacitly disallowed them. For this reason, I rule that the ambiguously-colored materia in Tifa’s right leg (which shifts from purple to red as the camera pivots around her) is a useful purple instead of a useless red. Just to get SOME use out of the red-blue pairing on her left arm, I assign an inobvious passive "Titan + Elemental" to add Earth element to all of her physical strikes. This also lends, under arcade-battle world laws, the resistance to hot lava she demonstrates later. The second red I say is Ifrit, to keep the element in her inventory, even if she never used it (assume she switched out green Fire for this at some point between battles)
*To summarize, she is carrying 2 red, 2 yellow, 5 green, 3 blue, and 4 purple.* She is observed to have cast the following: Fire, Ice, Stop (All), Haste (All), Lightning, Barrier, and Ultima. I believe the green lightning that went with the black sphere cast as a finisher during the “falling battle” indicates it is Ultima and NOT Demi. Tactically, Demi cannot be a finishing blow anyway, it will always leave an opponent with at least 1 HP; it’s best used against fresh opponents. Any gamer worth their salt would be carrying green materia like Flare, Contain, Transform, etc. but nope, that’s too OP, can’t do that here.
Knock out the easiest 1st, *Purple.* After eliminating all the ones with abilities not demonstrated, this leaves us with four stat enhancers, MP+, HP+, Speed+, and Luck+. I especially like Luck+, for reasons explained next. For *Yellow, first,* "Sense" is generally prudent when facing unknown opponents. *Second,* while NOT the best general-purpose choice (Double Cut), Deathblow seems not only possible but plausible; it arranges a trade-off between accuracy and damage, the bearer doesn’t hit as often, but every hit scored is “critical” (150% damage). In an RPG setting, where accuracy is typically very high, near guaranteed, that’s not so bad. In this 3D arena, against ninja opponents with unearthly levels of evasion, well, she misses A LOT, even WITH the Luck+ materia (meant to dovetail with this materia).
There are two types of magic demonstrated where Tifa is able to affect more than one target, which implies green spell and blue "ALL" materia have to be adjacent.: Time magic (Stop and Haste) and Barrier. This leaves us with three green materia...but four more spell effects (Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Ultima) we have to account for! Which means she either switched materia between rounds at some point, or Monty made a mistake by not thinking it through when he was painting glowing colored dots on her. Since Monty must be infallible ;) let’s work with what we see. Tifa most recently, in the falling stage, cast Lightning and Ultima. That must be two of them. Her best luck with any casting was Ice, so let's say that's the third. As noted before, Fire element is kept available (even if never cast) in the form of the Ifrit red materia.
THEREFORE my best interpretation of Tifa's materia loadout is:
L. Arm: Titan ↔ Elemental, HP+, Lightning R. Arm: Ifrit, MP+, Ultima, Deathblow
L. Leg: Time ↔ All, Sense, Speed+ R. Leg: Luck+, Ice, All ↔Barrier

If you know all the characters from all the games dead or alive and final fantasy, you can tell where he was going with the story. I’m so saddened that it’ll never be finished. Nobody can recreate Monty Oums fight scenes.

I don't know much but I knew enough that the feathers showing up around Tifa, Cloud, and the one Kairi held and struck to transform heavily hints that Rinoa could have gathered all the FF Square Enix people together (also explains why the first three cheered when Rinoa joined them) for some reason (that reason probably involving Squall since she has his gunblade for some reason and I think sorceresses tend to go insane when they lose their knight)

Interesting, you recognized Yuna's FFX-2 outfit but not Rikku's! Yes, that was Tifa in all black, her Advent Children costume (and presentation of materia). The 1st flying aeon as Valefor, not Bahamut. As much as I love Monty's work overall, I have a problem with how Hitomi was able to literally beat the materia out of Tifa. In general, thieving is a specific special talent that _reduces a character's overall fighting ability,_ especially when you can yoink not only stray cash but pluck _equipped_ equipment (weapon, armor, etc.) from an enemy (FF Tactics thief style), or Rikku herself in FFX compared to Auron, Wakka, Tidus, or Kimahri! Hitomi, already supreme by virtue of being a pure brawler, i.e. lacking Ayane or Kasumi's rangestrikes, being able to systematically strip Tifa of her advantage was manifestly unfair! Monty also forget that equipping materia (in FF7 Classic, which is all he had to go on) _lowers physical stats,_ so as all of those were forcibly unequipped, Tifa's fighting strength should have been rising! I have an issue with how QUICKLY the infinite number of Kasumi-clones took down Yuna's aeons (and the fact that there WAS an infinite number, so that whatever casualties Yuna and her aeons inflicted were literally meaningless), how neatly Kasumi's already OP teleportation negated Bahamut & Valefor's best defense, high evasion rating due to being flyers -- other characters would have had to pick away at them with (weaker) rangestrikes.
Materia generally speaking doesn't make you strong, they add special abilities, and actually reduce your physical stats a little when equipped. At least, in FF7 Classic, which is what Monty was going from here. Green is a single spell (Fire, ice, lightning, haste, stop, flare, etc.). Yellow is a command (Steal, Throw, Double Cut, Chakra, etc.). Red is a summons (not usable in the arcade-style setting of DF), Blue are support Materia (add area affect to otherwise single-target spells, etc.), Purple are various sorts of buffs, the only ones that do make you stronger.

FF8 was actually my least favorite of the series, I never could enjoy it due to the magic system. My favorite OP move from the series was Knights of the Round from FF7. You would summon them and each knight would attack separately, then you gave your other characters a materia called Mime?, And it would duplicate the last move performed which basically gave you a double cast of it.
I live for game breaking stuff...FF8 is just one of many that I am obsessed with becoming OP in
