The entire school system where Nick grew up needs an audit.
Facts!
10000% like is this a bit or does he really not know anything lmao
As a denver resident he's not totally wrong because we are on the plains but the mountains are only a few minutes away 😂
🤣
That would be most of the country
love these two grown adults each calling their moms to solve their feuds 😂😂❤
Almost going to grandma! - Google solving the issue (I've always heard it like Matteo says)
@@jackie8357 Google or any A.I. generated voice is not reliable as it doesn’t pronounce some words correctly.
😂😂 and it DIDN'T SOLVE anything
Sibling Rivalry energy kinda😂
@@robinpratthastings568if you do everything right, they won't be sure you've done anything at all...
I have NEVER heard anyone pronounce Appalachian as Appala-kan. That just blew my mind. It sounds so dumb lol
Never in my 54 years! 🤣
Literally never heard of that either!!🤣 and I’ve lived all over the country no one has ever pronounced it that way😂
I’ve never heard that but I believe him that it’s a regional thing… is he dumb for pronouncing it the way everyone in his hometown does? Yes… but only because he’s lived in New York for years lol.
I’ve heard two different pronunciations my whole life and I’m about 20 miles from a trail entrance. Appa-lay-shen (You don’t live in the actual mountain or scary dew drinking baby part of it) and Ap-uh-latch-en (you 100% had Mountain Dew in your baby bottle)
ETA: in Lehigh Valley, PA
Absolutely not. Nick’s parents are trolling him
I gasped at the phone call confirmation of Appa-LAKE-an!😮😂
It said Appa-latch-in. Which is correct. I'm born and raised in the hills of southwest Virginia and northeast TN.
From Ohio and we say Appa-Latch-in too! Appa-lake-in is insane
I'm still trying to pick up my jaw off the floor. 😮
Yea that was nuts
@@cassandrashelton3690 Well, Nick's mom is apparently as ignorant as Nick is because she got it wrong too, despite living in Pennsylvania. 😂
"We need to ask Lizzo, apparently". Genius
“Hello, everybody. It’s ya girl.” 😂😂😂
That took me out! 😂
Don’t forget : hella’r (ish) in the end of his sentence 🤣
As a Colorado resident, I can't begin to express my displeasure at Nick calling us a Midwest state with no mountains.
lol when he said that the Rockies werent in colorado i was like “THAT’S OUR WHOLE THING”
He doesn't know a lot
Hey at least he had us next to Kansas, so he gets a few points there.
Denver resident also : and no words lol
@@bobskicolorado8894 true
“I’m calling my mom!” “Well now I’m calling my mom”….perhaps we are both right. 🤣🤣🤣
When I lived in those Appalachian mountains, locals always said “if you say Appala-shin I’ll throw an apple-atcha” 4:24
Exactly! It's Appa-latch-in. Never appalashin🍎🤨
Yes!!!😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am from PA right from where nick is from, and in all my 30 years no one has EVER pronounced it like that. 😂
Yup like I’m from Philly and have always heard the Matteo pronunciation around me, but was vaguely aware appa-latch-ian is actually correct.
I grew up in Virginia and we pronounced it Appa-LATCH-ian. I hear the flat A pronunciation sometimes from people in states farther north, but I have never heard Appa-lake-ian like Nick said.
That seems like the correct way to say it. 💯
Same here. Wise county🖤
Northern Maryland/south Pennsylvanian here to confirm it’s Appa-latch-in
Nick never fails to make me clutch at my pearls every episode 😂
Cumberland county here and I agree
Yep. I remember someone from that area saying if you say it wrong, I will throw this Apple 🍎 atcha! 😂
As a British person I have to say, Matteo's impression of the British flight attendant was on point lol
It's giving EasyJet 😂😂😂
.....British?! I just thought he was doing a woman's voice.
North Carolinian here. I have NEVER heard the Appalachian Mountains pronounced the way Nick says it. EVER. I have heard people say it the way Matteo says it (but that's wrong lol). The correct pronunciation is the way the phone said it (like "latch").
Southwest Virginia here. I've Never heard it like Nick said it either! So strange to hear it like that. We always say it's Appalachia, as in I'll throw an apple at ya if you pronounce it appalasha😂
Also from NC and can confirm all of the above 😂
I love that they're both wrong in different ways
Matteo: "I can tell you my favorite and least favorite airports by now."
Nick: "We didn't ask but sure"🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nick's final form is Sarah Paulson's Nurse Ratched. We need to come to terms with this collectively or we're in for a rough summer.
He still keeps a core of Lauren Bacall Highpoint Coffee commercial "We don't like coffee...we love it!"
Not the Final Form!!! 😆
It's a damn travesty that this podcast isn't longer. 😂 I loved this wild tangent this episode took and I am here for it. I can relate to Matteo's struggle with how to address what Nick doesn't know LOL 😭
Nick saying Colorado is not the Rocky Mountains is just gonna make Lizzo more upset. Poor child was left behind😂
“You JUST told me you would say . . .” Between this and the vlog, I’m starting to see a pattern of Matteo gaslighting Nick. 😂😂
Or when he was trying to throw shade about him by telling him the exact story Nick just said and forgot he just said it 😂
Two grown men calling their mom....loved it!
This was great.
The blouse with the bow paired with sweatpants. I love Nick.
And they look a bit like sweatpants that grandpa wears
Flight attendant here, and I agree that the cost of travel has gotten insane while the quality continues to go down :( Also, I’m sad that the flight attendant was rude to you about asking for biscoff. If we don’t have snacks on the bev cart we just nicely inform you that the snacks are coming next or that we can bring it to you after the beverage service, it’s not that deep lmao the drama is so unnecessary. Sending love from Chicago
I'm losing it laughing at Nick randomly wanting to know If you can take the fish home from the Great lakes as if he's going on a fishing trip there 😂😂😂
You CAN but you SHOULD NOT 😂
I love the Sibling Rivalry vibes from this podcast. 😂
That's exactly it🤣🤣
Lol even their seating positions are accurate 😅 Matteo = Bob, Nick = Monet
Nick calling Matteo's pronunciation "fancy" while he is sitting there in his bougie blouse 🤣. No shade on the blouse, I love Nick's outfits.
As a Coloradan, I can assure you we are chock full of Rocky Mountains. Holy hell Nick.
Appa-latch-an mountains is 100% correct 😂
I don't care if you two don't ever stay on topic...I love listening to you both!❤😂
Once again Nick has turned it out with another 🔥 look; I’m obsessed with the blouse 👏🏼 Matteo’s salt & pepper beard is everything too 😮💨
Nick is getting dangerously close to "i can see alaska from my house" Sarah Palin levels of geographic nonsense😂😂
😬🤔 hmm are you making a joke from the joke?
The line actually is "And I can see Russia from my house."
Which Sarah Palin never said…
It was a Saturday Night Live, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler sketch.
Palin said "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska”.
From an island in Alaska in the Bering Strait on one side sits Russia and the other Alaska in the middle are two islands the Diomedes about less than 3 miles apart we each own an island you can stand there and wave to each other. During winter the strait freezes and you can walk from Alaska to Russia in about tens minutes.
Nick I’m sitting in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado watching you make a fool of yourself 😂🤣
I live by the Appalachian mountains and we call it “Appa La Chin” 😂😂
That's how my family pronounced it as well.
me making any announcement in the future: "hey everybody, it's ya girl"
Mateo says it properly, and he's absolutely right about the Denver airport. It just somehow feels... ominous. Can we get the very lovable Nick to audit a geography class where he's answering every question? I'd watch that all day, because Nick.
He didn't say it correctly actually. It's Appa-latch-in. And I would Love a history lesson from Nick😂 Just him in front of a chalkboard giving us all his incorrect world history facts🤣🤣
It seems Merriam-Webster acknowledges both pronunciations, so I guess I can too. ☺️
When Nick said the Rocky Mountains aren’t in Colorado, I said “oh no! Here we go again”.
For real 🤦♂️
I love how quickly you went from air travel to fishing 🤣
I need a T-shirt with Nick’s face on it with the caption “I am Dorothy a lot”
One thing I live for is Matteo's head tilts to the side as he's doing the intro.😄😄
I love these two people too much ❤ this need to be a least 30 minutes.... lol
Oh Nick, you sweet summer child. 🤦♀️🤣
Nick: “Colorado is not in the Rocky Mountains”
Matteo: 🙄
😂 and yet they are somehow friends. 🤷
There's a reason the podcast is called "I never liked you"
“We need to ask lizzo” 💀
Nick makes me look BRILLIANT! PLUS~the phone pronounced Appalacian correctly, but... I learned it Matteo's way.
Nick's question about sport fishing regulations is valid, interesting, and complicated. I'm a fisherman but I don't fish on the great lakes very often. To answer Nick's question to the best of my knowledge:
Yes, you can fish on the great lakes. There are regulations based on species and time of year that determine whether you can keep the fish or release it. Common types of fishing on the great lakes include: Salmon fishing (far out in a boat), Perch fishing (near the shores), trout fishing (near shores), and like general fishing for things like catfish, carp, bass, panfish, etc. There are even fisherman who target sturgeon, which can be like 12ft long!
You can hire guides with boats to take you fishing for salmon.
There is also a limited amount of commercial fishing in the great lakes, done with nets. I don't know much about that.
Thanks for the great fishing question, Nick! I'd love to go fishing with you some time, that would make a funny video hahaha
Wait we gotta get Nick on this boat lmao
The way he looked disappointed when he said "Erie" is totally understandable. 🤣 I'm from Erie and can confirm. Yes, we fish in lake Erie.
That lake is so polluted tho right? I’m from Cleveland and I don’t trust the local fish. 😂
@morddas oh yeah... with the coke plant here and everything else. People still do though.
The fact Mateo called “being distracted” a “phenomenon” lol
AppaLAKEun is WILD
Me not screaming "App-i-latch-en" at my phone.
the correct pronunciation for the mountains does sound more native so i'm glad for nick that matteo is also wrong😂 love the blouse, nick!
i agree with Matteo about the pronunciation. i love how pretty Nick is in his blouse but then don't ask him any historical questions. hahha. love these 2. 👏👏
Siri was right. Nick does not speak for Pennsylvanians 😂
My favorite part about this podcast is the attempt to focus on a subject and then the turn each episode inevitably takes in response to Nick. 😂
As someone who's from outside the US, I've only known it pronounced as Appa-lay-shan. Hearing three different pronunciations is not only my bingo card for this podcast.
Yasss! Nick, you look STUNNING!!!!
App-a-lay-shun is how I learned it.I have heard app-a-lah-shun before as well.
It's Appa-latch-in🥰
As someone with family in the Appalachian mountains, Nick's family is CRAZY
I died when Nick said, “you can’t read?!” 😂
love these 2 clucking hens, the best!
Nick has approximate knowledge of many things
I would WATCH THE SHIT OUT OF an episode of Matteo & Nick arguing about Golden Girls. Make it a series lol
The phone pronounced “Appalachian” correctly. I say it like Matteo says it because it’s the way I learned it. If I had to give a speech that used the word a lot I would practice a lot to say it correctly.
As someone who's born and raised there, I appreciate you making the effort to say it correctly👏🏼
Please make 30 minutes 😂😂😂😂😂😂. That's soo hilarious 😂 you ❤
Lifelong Coloradan here just… speechless. Just speechless. So much love to Matteo for his kind patience
Mateo: “Are you flying Spirit?”
Nick: ***gasp, then in a deep voice, “NO ! God, I would NEVER!” 😅
U guys could talk about paint and it would b the funniest!!! Love u both!!! ❤❤
Not Nick grilling Matteo on history 😂
WHAT EVEN IS THAT SHIRT¿‽🤯🤔😩🤣🤣🤣
it;s a woman's blouse. i suppose we would call it nonbinary today
2:21 “You want coffee? Or tea? Or ME??!?” 😂
Matteo you must feel soooo smart. Nick you are amazing , thank you for all you do for my day!
Chris! The voice effect on Nick was everything!:D
Love the episode!
There’s a phenomenon where u watch ur movie and someone else’s too… it’s called being nosey 😂😂😂😂 love this podcast! Fucking hilarious every week! Another great episode boys! 🔥🔥🔥
“The hell was that about” 😂😂
I can’t get enough of this podcast, hilarious!
For the Philadelphia area, Matteo is pronouncing Appalachian correctly
From the place that calls water "wooder" i dont trust them to say ANYTHING correctly lol
Nick will be in a t-shirt and jeans like, "I can't bend over in this."
Guess Nick never heard John Denver sing, "And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high..." LOL
The way he said the Rockies aren’t in Colorado with so much earnest 😭
DO NOT tell other people about the wonders of TSA precheck or else those lines will get longer for all of us.
0:13 That blouse is from 1977
Wore that blouse in 1977😂
You two kill me. thanks for the laughter.
"We need to ask Lizzo apparently" OH NO haha
Matteo’s grandma sounds soooo mid west with that “Haaayy”
Mom* my bad
Matteo's mamas very midwest accent brought joy to my soul ✨️
Nick is too pure for this world 😛
I called my friend from Mercer County Pennsylvania, sort of halfway between Erie and Pittsburgh, and asked him about the pronunciation. He pronounced with a 'ch.' I asked him if this was a regional issue and he suggested it was a genetic issue.
In northern Ohio we pronounce it Appa (short a) latchan.
Mateo is right
I hope everyone likes this comment 😂
But he's not tho.
Omg I laughed so hard at Nick and Colorado 😭😭😭
Nick & Matteo bullied Lizzo into stopping music 😂
The phone was right! 🤣 But never stop pronouncing it your way, it's too funny!
DUUUDE! This says that the video was released thirteen minutes ago and has 651 views! You guys are on fire! :)
omg finally i can shine! Im doing my masters in linguistics and YES Mateo! it's your accent that is affecting your pronunciation! So technically you and nick are saying it right, because we can all understand you!
I'm happy I finally got to see you live last weekend. Cried a lot from laughing 🤣🤣🤣
I was at a party the other weekend. There was a teacher there from PA, they went on and on about how the education system in Pennsylvania is better then anywhere else. I feel I should offer this podcast as a retort.
Everyone loves COCO, I dislike it because the whole movie is about how you can never escape your family.
already three sex bots huh
I'm an accent coach for media and a college professor. Matteo's discussion of the Great Lakes sharing vowels is correct. I would say it's the Rust belt similarities; due to people moving along the rust belt seeking employment in manufacturing. The device that they used to find the pronunciation of Appalachian is correct, though I did grow up saying App--ə-LAY-shən. The "correct" pronunciation is app--ə-LATCH-ən. Much of the south, including the Appalachian, is called the Scots belt because of the Scottish immigration.
15:20 Y'ALL ARE A HILARIOUS MESS!!! How u go'n counter Nick's comment with a history question!?!?? 🤣🤣🤣
As a NC native. The google pronunciation is correct. If I ever heard someone say app-a- lake-en I don’t know what I would I would do. 😂😂
I subscribed to Matteo the other day and I've been bingewatching his shorts and commercials and this podcast. This has been a lot of fun.
The correct way is how Siri said it! I grew up there!
Something I've found to be effective in figuring out how to say specific words related to a region is to go with what the residents of that region say. If they say "Appa-latch-in", it's Appa-latch-in, for example. I do love that @karlibell33 said here in the comments that when they lived in those mountains, people would say "If you say Appala-shin I’ll throw an apple-atcha.” That's just gold! Haha.
