DIY Marble Backsplash with Hexagon Tiles

- This DIY marble backsplash was made out of mesh mounted hexagon tiles from the Home Depot. I wanted an asymmetrical modern look and used the hexagons to create a landscape aesthetic. We used Fusion Pro Grout in Bright White which is by far the best grout I have ever used. It is a bit more expensive but looks better, is easier to apply and is more stain resistant than any other grout I have ever used.

Clever artistic idea and so easy to execute. Thanks. Cheers, David
Fantastic. Thank you for all your creativity and pro tips.
this is exactly what I've been looking to do to my home. Thank You for this video.
Easy tip with the stove that i always use is just nailing a piece of trim or some straight piece of wood and then letting the tiles sit on that. This way you know there won't be any sag
Great video Ben!
You made my day :) I wanted something different for my laundry splash back with hexagonal tiles and wasn't sure how to finish the top. I love what you've done and I will do a similar look.
Beautiful!
Gorgeous!
Great idea 🤠👍
Creative and beautiful
I love it, very nice!!!
IT's different, I like it!
Certified Banger! I love this aesthetic!
That's a really cool design. Looks awesome
Thought you said “wipe the tiles with a damn sponge “ 😄
I was just about to comment that😅😅
Nice design
Thank you can you use the glue on top of tiles as there videos of tiling on top off tiles is this glue strong for that
Very nice
incredible
What blade did you use for the cuts? Having issues with chipping on similar tiles
It didnt try to fall off the mash when got wet?
you caulked the bottom of the tiles as well correct? Where the tile meets the countertop?
Are you using thermostatic valves in the bathroom sink and shower too?
About the bed idea from the podcast: what about a tiltable headboard? So by default it sits straight up but you can also tilt it slightly. Maybe that alongside the French cleat idea to add a cushion
Would you please extend the end result longer? The upcoming video thumbnails cover your amazing results!
Any recommendations on cutting the tiles especially if you don't have the equipment you used
I dig it.
Great & informative videos! Thanks!
Question: does the picture you have up on the wall in the dining area have anything to do with the South African flag?
From the title, I assumed that you will make the tiles by hand somehow, not that you will just apply traditional tiles
thought the same!
You could make them. Make a mould for the tiles. You could have a flat mould, pour all the tiles on sheet with raised edges to separate them. There are tutorials on youtube showing how to make faux marble concrete. Then you separate the tiles and mix them to get the random look of the marble.
You could also create a long hexagonal tube. Make it in 2 pieces that slide apart, and a base. Pour in your faux-marble concrete mix. Bang the thing against the ground to get all the bubbles out (you could do this as you fill it up). Let it partially set. Needs to be firm enough to hold its shape, but still a bit soft. Take the mold apart, sliding it apart while laying horizontally. Then cut the hexagonal concrete tube into wafers, and lay them out. Once they fully set, add a concrete sealant. Then attach it to a mesh piece (or tile individually on the wall...).
Also, you could bevel the edges on the top most tile (or cut at an angle) so that the edge sits nicely against the wall.
you should have covered the stove with a cloth or something.
Looks awesome! I've been doing these backsplashes in my sprinter van builds. My customers love them. Funny how a basic project like this is applauded and the more interesting 3d printed projects get the heat.
Because normal people can actually do this and it looks amazing. I'm sorry, I'll never replicate any of the 3D printer / CNC projects but have done some woodworking ones.
@@born2burn1 don't see why any project should get neg'd tho. Like if you're not going to make it just don't watch it. Why watch then thumbs down and comment? I mean I guess it's better for Ben if you do watch and comment but still seems weird that everyone is a critic.
Hi, new to you.
I tried to do the dog house to no success. The angles were all wrong. I used the same size and specs as you did to no avail.
Went to the comments section to find out that it was disabled.... I guess that I wasn't the only one with this build.
Could you come back to it? It a cool design.
Thanks.
Great design and explanation. Where did you get the cabinets? Ikea? Any content on cabinet install? Thanks!
Is this the same space that had a concrete counter and the ingenious dish drainer/backsplash made with Lego molds? Now I'm curious how that arrangement held up ...
No, that was a different kitchen.
I thought you were going to get a large marble pattern tile and cut hexagons from it and then build the backsplash. Now that would have been a great project. These prebuild tiles on the mesh cost lot more than a simple tile.
Hello! How is your tile holding on wall? I am planning to use the glue that you used, but I am a little afraid it won't hold well.
i saw this at the store but cant afford it :(
Wheres the quick set?
Great job. Looks good. Lazy video.
Can you do this in the bathtub?
So you had to cut the bottom of the sheets to set on the counter.
Is that a quartz or a laminate countertop?
Quartz.
Love the marble! Do you have to seal it with something to keep from staining?
the tile is already sealed. Raw marble is slightly porous and I would seal it for horizontal surfaces but for a backsplash I wouldn't worry to much unless I was in a highly humid environment.
@@HomeMadeModern is most marble tile that you buy on mesh backing sealed?
Yeah, like most newbie DIY folk, I also have a "tile saw with sliding bed" lying around... oh wait.
Know I know how bees 🐝 feel
Hi!
Why are you grouting with blue tape covering some of the grout joints? I would have grouted then put caulk on the edges.Put a ledger board behind the stove. I like this idea, no outlet cuts and marble lets you omit a bull nose. I am trying to get over the unfinished image in my brain.
That’s a pretty ineffective backsplash but I do like the tiles themselves. This would look great if the entire wall was done properly.
I AM GOING TO DO THIS WITH PEBBLE TILES
After living with one for 8 months, I really loathe sinks with sharp corners. So hard to clean. IMO all sinks need to have rounded corners that you can get into easily for cleaning.
Try using a tooth brush.
You forgot to show yourself using the half tiles where they would fit w/o cutting more tiles.
The cut off pieces would not be half because of the saw kerf taken out.
You lost all interest when I saw that silicone adhesive... Why not just buy mosaic glue?
He said the "tile guys" told him to use that.. 🤷
Looks unfinished but, to each his own.
To me as well
Agree, weird
Weird as hell
Should retitle: Things not to do🙄
Sorry but you have only cut and applied tiles on a wall, only advertising in this episode 👎👎👎
This is the most absurd Install I have ever seen. From the adhesive choice to the lack of care taken with the stove, sink and counter being covered. Just insanity.
Agreed
I’m installing new tile, lmk if you have some tips to spare.
I’m using an hexagonal mosaic option too.
Look good but poor preparation on stove area, should've put a piece of temporary wood to stop tiles sliding down so you don't need tapes. 🤦♂️
Seems like the tape worked fine in the end though.
Every1 is a DIY now
@@emm6155 What do you mean?
@@WhenWillILearn Nope, it slipped down and it a little bit noticeable at the end.
@@alsanova and we taped it up in place but good tip
To make a hexagonal tile backsplash. Buy hexagonal tiles and glue them to the wall. Sigh, genius, would never have thought of that method.

What it looks like is a unfinished tile job...
Looks unfinished
Hate it. Looks like is missing tiles. Not for me.
Looks ugly and no sealing .
disappointing vid. clickbait.
