- I've had a PRS Studio 2021 on order for months and it's finally here. The Paul Reed Smith 2021 Studio features the 58/18 Low Turn Humbucker and a pair of PRS NarrowFields. In this initial video, I live my first impressions of this fantastic guitar. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Incredibly musical and balanced sound !!
Thanks for the great PRS guitar demo!
Gosh! PRS is driving me crazy, love them!. The studio is on my radar now!... getting closer!. Great video, thanks for sharing!.
One of the best guitars iv ever heard. What a beast 😭😭😭 the note separation is incredible.
I have one of the first Studios that came out and it´s a FANTASTIC instrument. Your playing is great. Congrats on your new guitar!
Congrats! It looks and sounds amazing. PRS is my #1 brand. I have two atm, a blue 35h Anniversary and a Yellow Semihollow, and I love them both.
Sounds spectacular. Looking forward to the comparison vid.
That is a lovely PRS. I have a PRS custom 24 from 2008 with the McCarty burst. It looks stunning too. I found out later after buying that the date of manufacture was a very special date for me for other reasons. I was looking to get a strat, but now maybe I have to look at this guitar. Great video Paul. Thank you.
Your playiing is just beyond tasteful and fantastic Paul! Your tone choice and notes are so full of character. I wish you had guitar tutorial course.
Thanks GrooveTrapped. If you look at the channel ive done a series on guitar techniques. The series is ongoing but thanks for the tip I might look to do a course instead.
Congrats! That PRS is a BEAST! 🤘😎🎸
Sounds unbelievably good! :) Great video!
What a beautiful and amazing sounding guitar!
My next guitar, finally played one and I'm in love... it's the perfect do-it-all guitar for me!
I love PRS guitars. Everybody who has played mine says it feels alive. Sustain for days.
Congrats on the NGD, I really like PRS Core guitars! If my kids didn't need college educations I'd own the whole line!
My 594 will have a Studio to play with soon!
What a great looking and sounding guitar. Because of this I must now have one to go along my MCcarty.
Great video man... love your new guitar!
WOW congrats!!!
Awesome guitar! I love the narrow field pickups. I’ve been wanting a PRS Special semi-hollow with the narrow field pickups for a long time. Someday.
What a nice and precise guitar. The neck pickups sound really good! A fatal weapon
Characterful harmonics in eveey setting, congradulations, looks and sounds wonderful.👏🏻👋🏼🧿
Cheers Seyfi
Beautiful guitar Paul! Congrats!
Cheers Keith
Sweet score! Congrats👍😊
Fantastic playing! Position 4 is 🔥
Congrats. She's a stunner!
Cheers Will
These videos are making my credit card very nervous Paul ;-) the clarity in those chord is amazing and sustain for days.
Sorry Ian. Keep that credit card hidden
Sounds as good as it looks.. amazing
Your PRS sounds awesome!!
Beautiful guitar. Looks like my 2008 Custom 24 10T. Love the pickup config. PRS is boss.
Neck pickup tone was great ... pair that with 4 other great tones, including that super bridge tone, and you have a smorgasbord that's probably a wider spread than your average HSS Strat
Sounds EXCELLENT
That sounds absolutley stunning man! I love my 2006 PRS Custom 22... Its the only PRS (my only electric actually) and one day i would love to get another, i am also hooked on the new Custom 24-08, but now after seeing this i have to add this one to the list too now haha...
Cheers Nick.
I'll take these tones over a Strat. The middle position is incredible. This could be my new main guitar!
That neck pickup is the single cool sound I’m after right now! Wish these weren’t so expensive!
Sounds really good!
That is really nice man ,I t sounds awesome..
That is one of the best guitars I've ever heard. I have way too many guitars and pedals, might sell a load and get one of these.
Not a bad shout. from the day I had with it, it’s really versatile and could cover a lot of different guitar jobs.
Love my 2012...best PRS I've owned...actually has its own voice compared to many that while beautiful don't seem to have a lot of character! Cheers
This video was the reason behind me purchasing one.
It sounds very good!
Very pretty guitar! I have the original model Studio. The "biggest" difference is the bridge humbucker.
The Studio is a great rock guitar, and is so fun to play! It quacks like a Strat, can scream like a LP Jr., and can get mellow like a 335 on the front pickup.
Now look into the PRS 509. :-) Between it and the Studio the rest of my PRS are living at home.
Would you say that the 509 has relatively more snap, spank, funk compared to the single coils in the Studio? Seems like it probably does from what I have gathered from other demos. Been tossed up between the Studio and 509 after multiple failed attempts at trying to gel with "real" so gel coils (strat, tele, Fiore) with P90s being closer to my liking.
Watching your vids really makes me want a PRS. Not good😂. Great work as always.
Maybe the brand with best, flawless quality. Very attractive choice.
Awesome!!
i made a decision mid pandemic to either buy a core studio or s2 studio, and honestly, the pattern regular neck of the s2 line is a thing of beauty for me. plus i love the type D single coils in the s2 studio (the narrow fields are still great, but with my amps the type D sound better).
one things for sure, the prs studio is a massively underrated guitar
the og studios in the late 80s and early 90s have lindy fralin single coils and a hb, very rare to spot nowadays.
Beautiful guitar .. nice vid about it too ..
The studio just seems like a perfect guitar. I have the dgt and a sc594 but cannot shake the feeling this would be a better fit.
Curious if you were to pick up a Studio and had to shed one of the other two, which would you keep? I have a 594 but have been feeling like I would be slightly happier replacing it with a DGT, which I have not been able to try so far, for the meaty HB tone needs. I'm in the process of trying to find a Studio too, and I think I would make for a great trio alongside a DGT and HBII (getting rid of my 594 and cu24).
That really is a stunning guitar. Sounds very focused and "wiry" compared to the DGT i think, but incredibly detailed. I imagine this one will cut through any mix like nobody's business...the Studio being considerably higher priced than the DGT i'm really looking forward to seeing both guitars compared. Great job as always, man.
Cheers Simon, comparison coming next week.
The two are like comparing apples and oranges. The DGT's dual humbuckers are wound to match David Grissom's ES-335 which had PAFs, and they're different than the bridge pickup on the Studio. The DGT also has bigger frets and 11s, which affect the sound. I have both guitars and they're equally fun, they sound good mellow and loud, they're just different instruments and are equally capable. And they both feel great after hours of playing.
@@8sigreg If you could only buy one DGT or Studio which would you go for ?
That looks stunning Paul. I look forward to hearing more when you have had a chance to play with it a bit.
Cheers John.
I thought I wanted a custom shop Tele until I heard this PRS. 🥳
The in-betweens are alright, but each pickup sounds just incredible on its own.
I'm mostly a bluegrass musician but I would love to get a PRS someday.
PRS' best pickups so far. 👌
Proprietary pickups can be a bad thing should you want too change them down the road, thinking of the narrowfields. The Fiore also has very few options because of the "slim" version singlecoils. That aside that guitar sound beastly good!
I have the semi hollowbody santana, incredibly smooth and beautiful to look at.
PRS have really out done themselves, enjoy
Was not a bad sound out of any pickup or combination. Stunning guitar !!
You're missing out on some great options....you can split the bridge pup and then pair it with the middle pup. Also, dialing down the volume on the neck and middle pups makes them much more "stratty".
Sounds incredible and I love that finish. Shame PRS will never release a lefty model
PRS does release left-handed guitars, but they’re limited to certain models. I doubt you will see the Studio released as one though.
Absolutely superb demo, I love that preset or amp sound you're getting. What is it, and can you Share. I play Helix in the studio.
Sounds superb, both in clean and dirty... What amp were you using?
Proud to say I own a 2011 Ten Top Studio in Eriza Green.
Would love to see a comparison between this and the new PRS Fiore.
It sounds great, Mon!! And I've never really been a PRS player. That brightness, when played acoustically, seems to have been rounded off some, electrically, yet with a mid & low range gristle & sustain that's awesome.
That’s the best sounding prs I’ve heard and I don’t like them ( never have ) mostly because demo’s have a small towns worth of gain. Being from the same small town DC i saw the first ones (possibly the first?) this the first one I that sound really good 😊
Great playing and beautiful tones .... Doesn't the bridge humbucker split to single coil as well?
If Ace Frehley was starting out now, I imagine this is what he would be playing. Fantastic!!!
Great video Paul, how would you compare this to the Modern Eagle V?
Holy crap! What is your signal chain here? Would you pick the narrow field over a full HB in that neck position? Those sound great!
Spectacular. I wonder if this attention to quality at all costs will outlive Paul himself. Let’s hope so.
I’m very much a Gibson fan and player but that PRS looks and sounds stunning. Hmmmmm….. I’m off to scan the PRS website now. 🤣
I’m a fender guy and I got the prs special. Best guitar I’ve ever played. Even my Suhr is gathering dust. Every person who plays my special agrees, it dominates
I used Gibsons for years, from the late 60s, had lots of Les Paul Customs, 335s, a 345 with genuine PAFs, but now have PRS instead. I think the PRS are better balanced and more playable, and are extremely well made. The PRS DGT and the Studio are the two I recommend looking at first if you already have a Les Paul. The DGT is so comfortable and sounds like a late 50s Les Paul with a tremolo. The Studio is like a Strat with major balls and is my favorite for over-driven amps.
What amp & drive are you using? Amazing sounding and driven just right.
Oh lord the beginning was tough. Seeing fragile with a FedEx sticker.
What a great guitar! Go PRS!Not sure I would want that third middle PU as it may get in the way of picking? Compare to a Custom 22 or 24 or a DGT? Different PUs then my older 22 and 24.
Yes i think you have to watch that middle pickup but its really no different than you would on a strat. Comparison vid with a DGT next week.
I got a DGT. Can't wait for the comparison between the two?
Coming next week.
Great video. I have an SE Custom 24 with a Floyd Rose which some might say is wrong. Even the SE models are amazing. Every time I pick it up I am in a different mode which the guitar requests. It is quality.
wonderful . is there an affordable competitor
Congratulations Paul! What a beautiful guitar. What was the guitar signal chain in this video?
Cheers AJ. The PRS was going straight into a BluGuitar Amp 1.
Man you sure know your way around the fretboard. I bet a cheap squire would sound fantastic in your hands.
Cheers Paul.
Hello Paul, Great video as always. How do you like this bridge pickup as compared to BKP Mule? I’m trying to decide on older CU22 and adding Mules, or a new Studio - if I can find any! Thanks Matt
Hi Matt, I think the PRS LT pickups are great, I’d go for a studio.
Excellent playing Paul! Sounds incredible! Would of been nice to hear some split sounds in true single coil mode. What amp were you playing through buddy?
Hi Danny cheers. you can’t split the coils on the Studio. I was playing through a BluGuitar Amp1 iridium
@@TheStudioRats You can split the humbucker by pulling the tone control up, at least we can on the original model.
I have one of those paid for, but I have no idea as to when my dealer will get it in.
Thank you for the great demo. Does this have a thicker body or same as a CU24?
Ive never played a cu24 but as far as i know its only the maple cap that is thinner, the body’s are the same.
Reminds me of the Gibson Nighthawk.
what amp are you using?
Sounds and looks beautiful. I have a question, though.
Have you ever noticed that the birds on PRS necks are upside down? Why is that?
the birds are flying (ascending) to the end of the neck
I'm currently in the process of deciding between studio, special or 594. Have any opinion on whether the TCI 58/15 LTs are truly better sounding or more articulate than the non-TCI version? How do the narrowfields compare?
Hi Gary, I’m sure you’ll be happy with any of them. Ive only tried the LT’s on this guitar and they sound great to my ears.
Could I trouble you for your signal chain on this?! Incredible tone!
Sure, the guitar straight into a BluGuitar Amp1
La guitarra tiene 10 sonidos diferentes? Es correcto?
This is the best sounding guitar demo I ever heard on CZcams.
Are you using an IR? Please tell me the setup.
I also think you just cost me $4000 cause that guitar sounds amazing.
Cheers Bigslick, I was going through a BluGuitar Amp1 iridium into a Twonotes torpedo studio.
Sounds amazing. Can I ask how much you paid for the studio? The ones I am finding are the green or the blue with the gold hardware. I actually want one like yours in tobacco burst.
Do you ever find that your pick hits the middle pick up when you’re alternate picking?
Yep!
I love how middle pickups sound but hate them because they always get in the way.
Sounds amazing , too rich for me tho and I don't think I would ever spend that much on a guitar if I could.
Have you played the epiphone new modern Les Paul, and if so what's your thoughts. l
Hi Peter. I haven’t tried the new Epiphone LP. I think it looks great and I’m hearing great things about them.
What amp are you playing that through? Sounds amazing!
Would like to also, especially the opening chords.
Is it the guitar or the recording? Why do the narrowfields have so much breakup? I thought these were supposed to be crystal clear.
Would you share your amp settings by chance? That’s a divine tone! I just got a 2021 PRS Studio myself in Whale Blue. It’s one of the best sounding guitars I’ve owned! That humbucker puts my Gibson 59 custom shop reissue to shame!
I’m thinking I should have got the whale blue, that colour is awesome. I’m using the BluGuitar Amp1 for the vid
@@TheStudioRats thanks - that BlueGuitar sounds great! The whale blue is pretty incredible. I somehow managed to wind up with the exact guitar from the PRS video about the new studios lol. Anyhow. Great work on this demo!
Just wondering now that you've had the Studio guitar for a year, do you still think it's a great guitar? Better than the DGT? Thanks
Personally I’d get a dgt.
"unbelievable, amazing" etc... come on mate! It is just another guitar with very good set up!
What amp was that? Sounded incredible
That was a BluGuitar Amp1
I want one but cant find one anywhere. I heard PRS is about one year behind in production.
I have a 2010 10 top for sale!
Signal chain and amp?
