The library buying the book is how the author gets paid, but how often the book is checked out helps to determine whether the library will buy additional copies or continue to stock other books by the author.
Ooo yay!! Love that I’m still supporting them!
Once you start using the library more often you will discover just how much of an asset it is to not only the community, but you as an avid reader. Libraries have online catalogs that you can browse and reserve the books that you want and they will be ready for pick up at the checkout desk. Also, libraries pay a little more for their books so authors do get paid and sometimes they carry multiple copies and multiple formats. The more you use your library the more funding it will receive 😊
I'm studying to be a librarian and please don't be intimidated by them! I know they can be daunting, but they are a great place!! Most libraries I've been too the staff are amazing and wonderful!! It's basically like a free bookstore!! and each library has different stock. Your library has so many options which is amazing! Some libraries don't as they are smaller branches but you can find some gems.
Walking inside that library must be breathtaking.
Most of my books are covered in plastic, just like books in libraries. 🥰
I love library hauls even more than bookstore hauls! Checking out books gets the community more funding so people have more access to books, which seems to align with your values with donating to little free libraries :-) I personally don’t even buy books now until I’ve checked them out from the library and I know I like them! Also, you should check out your library’s online catalog and put things on hold-it gives me the same feeling as when I was a kid and we ordered things from the Scholastic catalog. Though I can see part of the fun for you is going in and seeing what you find. I love your energy and videos! 🫶🏻
Ooo I love that! Will definitely check it out!
Happy Book Week ! I love this video got me wanting to finally check out my local library here in San Antonio. One of your videos inspired me to go fill up one of our free little libraries at this park I go walking at. Thank you for making reading cool and representation matters. At 51 you inspire me. I said before growing i was teased for my love of books 📚📚📚📚 you make black women and black girls feel seen. Thank you ❤️ thank God for the Internet. Your channel is like fresh baked cookies out the oven. A beautiful sunset 🌇 and just a cozy place to love books. Laugh, spread joy and be yourself. You rock ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In Australia, authors can sign up to a system where every time their book is borrowed they get paid a little! It’s probably only a few cent, but everything counts!
I love that so much!
At my library in Cuyahoga Falls, Oh they have signs posted informing readers the more items that are checked out they more funding from the state they receive. 😊😊😊
Omg I love that!
I’m from Ohio too!!! I’m in a small village close to the Ashland area. Norwalk is close to me too. If you still don’t know how close that is to me, Cedar Point is about 50 minutes from me
@@rubeuspotter719 Nice! I think Ashland is about an hour from me. I'm close to Akron...45 mins from Cleveland.
I'm not far from there! It's so crazy to find other bookish people online that live near me!
@@jessicaholbrook9202 I know where Akron is. I went to the zoo there as a kid and watched the Rubber Ducks play baseball. Cleveland is about an 1 hour and 30 minutes from where I live.
The amount of times I've gone to the library as a kid to get audiobooks on cd with my mom right before a road trip. Those CDs were my intro to cozy mysteries.
Thank you again for showing the books I love when the library has New books
You are so welcome!
I would love to see you try The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah! I loved it when I first read it as a teenager 🩷
I utilize my library through the apps Libby and hoopla! I have accessed so many audio books! My local library doesn’t have a great selection of new books to checkout but their online collections are FIRE!!! 🔥
I need to check out our online collection for sure!!
9:10 this is why I LOVE looking up books I want to read in the library online catalogue and then placing books on hold! They're then moved between libraries to mine and I can collect them once they arrive ☺️. HIGHLY recommend this
Shawnaci your videos are such a comfort to me. Sometimes I just let them play in my headphones while I’m working even though I can’t watch. The vibes are always so warm and inviting, also you give off such a cheerful energy and the way you love books is admirable. Side note: your style is also enjoyable. I love how free flow and airy your outfits are. Also your pride in your culture is appreciated, I love how you love being a black girl and advocating for other black girls. Nothing beats that ❤. I feel spoiled by the daily vlogs 😊 anywho just wanted to let you know I love it here and I’m never leaving! Hoping one day I run into you and Alex at Barnes. I’m from St. Louis so one day I’m wanting to make it happen!🫶🏽💗🌺
Omg this is the sweetest comment ever!! THANK you!! I try to be so intentional about how the vibe of each video feels and to make other black girls feel seen within the books I read. So glad you love hanging out here!! 🥰🥰
Loving books week and hope to see more in the future. Yes I judge books by their cover and I know we shouldn’t, but I can’t help it and I love cute or gorgeous covers. What an inspiring young lady that was at the library that you were chatting with. Food for thought . Thank you for another wonderful video ❤❤
So glad you’re loving book week!!
I wish my library had this collection of books. We never get any like contemporary reads for adults. I love book week so much, any excuse to see your videos. 🫡❤
Book3!! I have it but haven’t started it yet! I love Ali Hazelwood so I know it will be a winner. This really doesn’t have anything to do with this vlog, but I remember you talked about how u started wearing bright colors. I am 54 and thought, that those colors are too young for me, but the heck with it. I am going to embrace it this summer. Thank you for always being beautiful, kind and uplifting. ❤❤❤❤
Yes yes yes!! You should embrace it!! You’re so welcome 💞🥹
I think it’s a great idea to read the books at the library and if it’s a five star read then buy the book so that you have it when you suggest some a book. I think the library is a way to find new authors without paying for the book.
I’m voting for #3 Pride and Protest!!
It looks so good!
Definitely needed that pep talk toward the end!! Also I vote number 1 for you to read first!
For books I'm super unsure about, I get them from the library.... Or if I hate the cover, I do that too. Then if I love it, I buy it to support the author. I do the same thing with KU books. I go thru the shelves sometimes... Just peruse or go to my favorite authors and look that way. I think libraries are finally getting a little better about sticking indie books. Mine still doesn't have Mariana Zapata. I just read my first of hers and loved it. I'm a fan of slow burn for sure! ❤️
Which book of hers did you read? I’ve heard such great things about her writing!!
Book 3 📕 Love book week. Thank you 🩷
You're so welcome!
I love these daily videos! I’m getting so many recs this week !
Glad you like them!
Yessss a good cover will definitely draw me in lol
I have really enjoyed some slow burn books. It can be really amazing to see a couples connection grow, even if it can be frustrating too! Mariana Zapata does them well...all rhodes lead here, to lukov with love, wall of winnipeg, kulti ... all favorites!
Love that!! I have so many on my tbr! I need to just pick one up and see how I like it haha
I personally love the vibe of old, used books 🫶🏻 I started my journey with reading with Stephen King books from library and the copies I borrowed were quite old, like from 1980s.
I wish my library was like that! I live in a small town and our library is very small with not as many options as yours.
That makes sense! Hopefully your library can bring in books that you request from other libraries! I’ve heard that’s a great way to get books too
Do they have interlibrary loans with nearby cities?
@@kimbarbeaureads I stopped in. Yes! They taught me how to go online and place requests and they’ll get them for me to pick up. I’m also learning the Libby app. I downloaded the app, entered my library card info, then I can download books (if they have them) to my kindle to read. Libby has audiobooks too. Thank you!!
Love book weeks
Yay yay yay!
Do a library reading vlog and try books you're unsure about 😁
Lovingggggg book week!! More pleaseeee!!!👏🏾 I will be making a trip to my local library. Andddd im gonna say start with book #2🫣😃😂. Have a wonderful day.❤️
Yay!! So glad you’re loving book week!
'All Rhodes Lead Here' is so far my favorite MZ. It's so so good. Especially if you love travel and nature adventures. Also, authors do get paid from people using their library! Especially if you get more people to read it from the library, they will buy multiple copies!
Alsoooo, those are either CDs or Playaways! Which are physical mp3 audiobooks and you can ask your librarian for headphones (at least at my library I can) and you can listen to them without using your car! I love them so much and I am not even an audiobook girly LOL
i'm really happy you shared that moment you had with the person leaving. i hope for good things for everyone who makes big life decisions like that.
Me too 🥹🥹
You seemed more giddy about book #4. Read that one first 🎉
LOVING book week!!! I look forward to all ur vidoes and its such a teeat when u post more often.
I use the library the same way you do. Might as well just borrow the book first and make sure you actually like the book before buying it. I’m also a paperback girlie and only read hardbacks from the library
Mistakes were made by Meryl Wilson is really good i read it last year for pride month 😊
Pride and protest i have it on my tbr list
I’ve heard it’s so good! I loved cleat cute by the same author!
Book 3 😁 📖
It looks so good!
My TBR keep adding up because of you 😂. thanks for all the recommendations I like reading books that’s not hype on TikTok. And I have been using my library more now it’s not as cool as yours I wish I could find great gems like yours but they do have great book
So glad you’ve been using your library too! It’s so easy to forget what an incredible resource it is!
I went to the Library yesterday and got pretty good book selections.
I am enjoying book week❤❤❤❤ I definitely love slow-burn romances. It's one of my favorite tropes in romances.
So glad you’re loving book week!
I went to the library looking for the partner plot by Kristina forest and they didn’t have it yet and they ordered it on Amazon for me and once I finished I took it back with the gift note and now it’s in the library
Wow I love that so much!!
I love browsing the shelves at the library! I also love seeing what the staff picks by making a few of them front facing. My local library doesn't have large sections like this one that's all front facing...I kind of wish it did now. I used to work there, so I find myself putting things in the proper place. Have to remind myself I don't work there anymore. LOL
Book #3 Pride and Protest. Because I have it and haven't started it.
I love slow burns! I also write slow burns pretty often, so i'm a little biased haha
Pride and Protest…. That sounds like a number 1 read……by your count book number 3!
Yes I like slow burns
I like the library because I can see all of the new books in one section. Also, when I am reading a series, I can checkout multiple books at one time and binge the series without breaking the bank. I can renew them if I am not ready to turn them in. My tbr is more manageable cause I decide when I want the book to be delivered for pick up.
agh your uploads are always right as I go to bed (in Australia - heyo!). Can’t wait to watch in the morning
Hope you enjoy!
@@ShawnaciSchroederI did hehe
I just finished Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. It’s a very good slow burn.
Love that so much!
I definitely judge a book by its cover and almost all of the time I really end up enjoying the book. I think if an author puts time and effort into picking their covers then they’ve done the same with inside as well. I LOVE my local library because they always have the newest books and I end up walking out with so many books. It’s dangerous 😂😂. Only downside is that they have mostly hardcover and I’m not the biggest fan of hardcover.
I prefer paperbacks too there so easy
You’re so right!! It DOES take a lot of work to create an incredible cover so they probably put that same amount of effort into their story! That makes so much sense!
visiting the library later today to pick up my holds ☺️ also i checked out tia williams’ book a couple weeks ago because my library bought a copy and if i like it i’ll probably hold out for the paperback version
They all sound good. I say book 3.
1 or 4! I want to read both of them. Also FYI, Songs of Irie is Historical fiction about Jamaica in the 70's with a romance sub-plot. I enjoyed it, but you've mentioned Historical isn't really your thing.
Oo that’s good to know! Thank you!
Great video. I just retired from the library after 13 years!!! I miss it. I think you should read number 4 first. I heard that was such a good book. It’s on my wish list.
Loving book week.you should read Christina Lauren book first.I like slow burn romance books.I read The Rule book by Sarah Adam’s.That book was really good.
Book #3. Love your content
I realllly reallly liked all Rhodes lead here !!! ❤
i love visiting my library. thank you for sharing yours.
You are so welcome!
I know that authors get paid when their books are sold to libraries . Also libraries help introduce new readers to books all the time. There are so many authors I would never have tried if I had to buy them all. There’s just something fun about requesting a new release & getting it on release day like everyone else 🥹🩷
You & Alex are the reason I started reading Sister Freida, I checked out 8 of her books from the library and I had a great time, then I posted all about it on socials & got others to read as well. Usually when I end up loving a book after reading it from the library I RUN to the bookstore. 😂❤
Voting for book #2
Girl how am I just finding out you have a podcast 😮
Yes!! New episode every Friday!
I got a library card about a year ago and have been utilizing it since. I love book shopping but the library keeps me from buying books just to buy books. Now don’t get me wrong I love owning books, but I have a thing now that if I’m not going to reread a book anytime soon, then I have no reason on buying it, no matter how high I rated it. Keeps me from wasting money. Also you should do a Walmart book haul sometimes they have deals on books if they are slightly damaged. And Dollar Tree has books for $1.25. The selection at Dollar Tree ain’t always the best, but you never know what you’ll find
I don't know how it works in the US. In the UK authors get royalties calculated through the amount of loans they have through the Public Lending Rights scheme. It's not as much as through direct sales though.
Yes I haven’t been able to pick up the Dreamland Billionaire series because I don’t like the covers. I also bought Magnolia Parks & Their Viscous Games because I like the covers. I think I’ll try buying the “ugly” books on kindle. 😭 I have a library card but prefer to use libby because I live in a big city we have multiple very small library branches and it’s hard to get physical books.
I’ll be honest my sister has been trying to get me to go to the library for months. So like offset the expense of buying a book and I’ve been ignoring her but senior Vlogs about books have been changing my mind. So there’s some of my boys and I are going to go to the library and sign up.
You’ll love the library so much!!
book 1 😃
I wish we had libraries like this in Memphis,TN. The county is too busy spending money on other unnecessary things. I just buy my books but so many people can't buy them.
Kristin Hannah is a great author. She has lots of books to choose from that are different genres. The Nightingale, The Fire Fly Lane duology, The Winter Garden, and so many more. Have you ever read Ava Miles? She also has many to choose from. I also would highly recommend Beverly Jenkins. I love the Blessings Series, but she has many other genre books and series to choose from.
Thank you so much for recommending!!
I say book 2. I bought the book 2 weeks ago but haven't read it yet. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it..
I’m sending you love❤❤❤
Resonated.

I totally judge a book by its cover. I wish I didn't at times but then again I do love a good aesthetic of books on my shelves 🫠 so many of the spicey books have half naked men and I just don't want that on my shelves I have a 5 year old lol but I know I'm missing out on those books 🤭
Haha glad I’m not the only one that does this!
I got curious about what is an ugly cover for you! Maybe you could show us in a future video? Bc for me, this new style of covers is really not hitting the spot. But all the same, I agree we shouldn't judge a book by its cover buuuuut it does influence the reading experience for me haha
9:36 I feel like you sharing books online, even if it is “paying with exposure” is almost more beneficial to them individually than your purchase! You're in a position to influence multiple others to purchase their book.
Since you like slow burn romance you might want to check out saving 6 by chloe Walsh i recently read it and enjoyed it total slow burn
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ it also has a sequel redeeming 6
Ooo so glad you loved it!
🙋🏽♀️ hi my name is Tiffany and I also judge books by their covers 😂…we need help girl!
Glad I’m not the only one haha!
Hiii can you do a book review for all the books you rate 5 stars or 4.5
Oo yes! Love this idea!
I would read book #3 first...🤣
Token was good. It wasn’t heavy at all to me despite the suggestiveness of the title
Love that!
Text appeal - 2
The library allows me to try out new author without wasting money if I didn’t like their books and saves me space on my bookshelf lol
So true haha!
Do you know how they decide which ones to sell bc some of them are so new!?
I have no idea! They’re in such great condition!
Your videos are addictive super girl,. greetings from Greece 🩵🩵🌹
Thank you!
Book #2 - Pride and Protest
Hi love your videos random question do happen to know the difference between audible $7.99 subscription and $15.99 one what is different between them . I know get one credit every month with my 15.99 current sub but is that the only thing that goes away when choose the 7.99 ? What then do you get for 7.99 ? Does anyone happen to know
I’m not sure the difference, but I do know that Spotify has a 9.99 audiobook option so that’s another cheaper way to listen too!
I Stay North Carolina and some of the books I've been trying to get they don't have it I Love, love, love, love African-American books if I go on my computer and try to get the book they don't have it
Hi Shawnaci - quick question: so, if you check out a book at the library, read it and end up loving it (4+ stars), do u subsequently go and buy the book for ur bookshelf too? Just curious.
I usually end up buying it if I love it!
The digital library has like a million audio books

The khakis and a belt are because he's a pro golfer, but no, that's not attractive.
