LGY's deadly shot is that counter cross table backhand, what pace!
That shot highlights the slight advantage of left-handed against right-handed. Hina Hayata, Qian Tianyi, Wang Chuqin, now LGY.
The thing is right handed players can do this against lefties as well, they just don't train that shot nearly as much

Yes. A reflection of how frustration builds up from the rest of the points lost. Also you don´t risk the same when losing, etc. and the last two serves from Ma Long are kind of troll too. Anyways, i'm not invalidating Lin victory at all, just adding that variable into the reason.@@user-me4ti2vs5d

Idk if LGY is doing that on purpose (hitting the edge of his racket AND the edge of the table), but it sure got to Ma Long's head.
I highly doubt it. Would be near impossible to consistently hit edge shots on purpose at such speeds (even at the level of these players). Probably just a bit of luck. Although dont let that take away from Lin's amazing performance this match

Am I the only one who absolutely doesn’t like this camera angle? Do the organizers think that it is better than the “classic” one (from above behind the player’s back) or are there any reasons why video recording from the side is used?

I've seen couple of people who like it, but far more to hate it (myself included). Sponsors are seen more clearly and I guess thy figured people who complain would still watch and there wouldn't be too much new fans. I might be wrong since TT is not too popular in my country and also Chinese audience might even prefer this angle
After all, sponsors can be written on the cover in another direction. I still have LIEBHERR from the World Cup in my head. I really like watching table tennis, but this angle is so unpleasant for me that I can’t watch even a minute of it.

I don't think losing to another Chinese player has a big impact on the decision who they send to play Olympic Singles. I do agree, however, that Ma's chance of playing Olympic Singles in general is a bit lower than Fan's and Wang's as the coaches would probably prefer to send the younger players.

@@Benjamin-w41 It is about ranking. Ma Long is currently 500 points behind the Number 2 Wang Chuqin. After this tournament, he will be 1000 points behind. The top 2 will represent China in Olympics singles. Ma Long can still represent China in team events however.

There was no chance of that happening unless he moved to at least #2 in world rankings.
As much as we all love MaLong, he has not been a top-2 Chinese player for almost 2 years and the trend is negative. Without any political involvement, FZD and WCQ should be a clear choice for Paris singles. MaLong should join the Team event for his farewell.
He never had a chance of winning this event, if not Lin, then FZD or finally, the arch nemesis Wang Chuqin. It’s still mournful that he couldn’t at least reach the semifinals…❤

Lin is great against those he knows well. Knowing where Ma will go and what kind of ball gives him a good chance. So, sometimes he is bound to win.

@@KarlZundel Yeah, I've seen Ma beat him so so many times..bound to lose at times, Ma is a little slower and his reflexes not like at his peak, that's just enough for people to beat him which he used to consistently beat..
Maybe LGY's style is a little similar to WCQ's style. Both are very quick and somewhat explosive lefties. Ma Long is getting a little old, which is not good when facing such opponents.

Why ma long look so tired in this match? Oh well, we’ll played by Lin. For everyone saying ma long won’t play singles for Olympics his chances isn’t over. What people forget is he still has the highest win rate against non Chinese players. China doesn’t care about losing against Chinese players, they care about losing against non-Chinese players.
Also side note, ma long only loses to left handed players. He beats FZD more than he does left handed players.
I think left hand players are a pb for everyone (including me !). Ma Long used to lose against Wang Hao and Zhang Jike.

The racket 968 is still not powerful enough to overtake Butterfly's outer blades. Plus Malong's aging up, the speeds, spins are not as strong any more compared to his own peak. LGY is just getting more mature even it's a late come :D Congratulations to LGY. Good game.
It’s much better than any other blade away from the table, especially if you’re forehand oriented. Surely there are better options close to the table

The forehand top spin seems to loose usual dominance compared to backhand. Back and forth forehand topspins, the most satisfying to watch in table tennis, are rarely seen in this tournament, mostly come from Ma Long's matches. Btw, this BO5 format and the camera angle is just so shit.
Lin is better for sure than Ma long. The dictator has still incredible power but just face it, young generation are now able to beat him

Ma Long is slowing down. He is no longer as fast and consistent as he used to be. And no credit is taken from LGY, he has been stronger mentally and physically lately and he deserved to win.
I also think hes not that active anymore when playing. He often lets hes opponent play and is just passive

Он недавно отыграл бомбически на турнире где тайванец выйграл. Слушать всех кто говорит, что надо уйти - он бы половину того что за последние лет 8 не выйграл бы 😊
А то что он не первая ракетка - это козе понятно.
Да, здесь он отыграл совсем для себя плохо, но при этом его оппонент показал практически такую же несуразную игру с огромным количеством ошибок на ровном месте. Практически паритет, никто на чужой стороне не выйграл.
Там все китайцы слилились, чтобы дать козлу шанс, но он его профукал с тайваньцем. Надо вовремя уходить, а не закатывать истерики. Деревенский парень Жанжике был талантливее этого ставленника пекинской мафии.

Ma Long needs to increase the attack and defense speed…he no longer has significant advantages over any top 5 Chinese players.
Ma Long was completely controlled by LGY. ML was not prepared well mentally for this game. He didn’t play his own game. Sadly, he lost big for this game.
