In late 60's and 70's he possessed one of the best lyric tenor voices ever, and a natural musicality you can't teach.Sad record companies forced him into recording operas more suited to Spinto Tenors and resulted in the deterioration of his voice in later years.

@@Castorp-wn7dh When Pavarotti started his career he sang bel canto roles, well suited to the exceptionally beautiful lyric tenor voice he possessed. It was not a big voice, like Corelli, Domingo, and similar Spinto Tenors. His upper and middle voice excellent, but lower voice weak.Due to his huge record sales, both record companies and opera houses wanted him to sing some of the heavier roles better suited to Spinto Tenors in particular Wagner also Puccini, Mascagni. When Pavarotti recorded operas better suited to Spinto/Dramatic tenors Caluf in Aida for example his voice could be tuned up, but when he sang these roles on a stage his technique and small voice could not meet the demands of heavy dramatic roles.All.voices decline with age but I do believe singing roles not suited to his voice hastened the usual decline as singers age.Pavarotti's impact on opera was huge, he was 71 when he died, a voice of exceptional beauty one of the best leggero tenors in the history of operatic singing.
