Last week we broke down all of the riggory on Canada's Drag Race Season 4, and this week we're going to look at how the season would have went down if things weren't rigged by production whatsoever. We'll look at each episode one by one and talk about what should have went down and why.
Will Denim make it to the end? Will Venus snatch the crown? Will we lose Kitten Caboodle too early yet again? Let me know in the comments below what you think about my decisions!

I knew Venus would be favoured throughout the season the second she got a rose for her entrance look.
At least she said indigenous less often than Chelazon.
I’m not because Traci Melchor has no drag knowledge or any credentials to be judging drag queens

I agree! I knew Venus would be atleast top 3 from episode 1. I really like Venus but I’m not gonna lie, just not the winner in my eyes! Though my opinion means very little 😅
The way Kiki has 3 wins in this but was in the bottom so much it didn't matter in the end lmao
tbf her run was actually legit - she genuinely either SLAYED or bombed
I completely agree with your thoughts - Venus was consistently high, while Aurora had peaks and valleys - but in my opinion, Aurora's trajectory throughout the season is much more of a winner's journey. She fought hard, and when she stumbled, she redeemed herself. By the end of the season, I felt like she actually grew and became a new queen, with newfound confidence in herself. For example, I think of the letter her parents sent her in the makeover challenge. But in contrast, by the end, Venus felt like she had stayed in the same place - I didn't learn anything new about her that I didn't already know on Episode 1. She came in not padding, tucking, or corseting, and she left us in the final episode saying she doesn't even pluck her brows.
And through it all, she barely wore any makeup on her face. If you look at clips of the queens getting ready in the werkroom, on any episode you can see everyone else with a face full of foundation, colour correcting, blocking eyebrows, powdered the house down, etcetc and then you pan over to Venus, who looks like she's just wearing BB cream and chapstick. The judges all season loved to get on Melinda for her makeup any chance they got (and understandably so, because mother was ashy) but what about Venus? She can just stand there without any makeup and get away with it? We saw on Season 15 how Ru and Michelle constantly reminded Marcia to wear more makeup. I'd say Venus wore less makeup this season than Marcia on Season 15.
It was just so hard watching her take the crown after a whole season of her talking about how skinny she is... no pads, no corset, untucked, then in the finale saying she doesn't even alter or touch her brows whatsoever... and with barely any makeup on her face.... standing next to Aurora, with her severe, STAMPED mug, beautiful headpiece, show-stopping gown... after she had just served us the best performance, with THAT runway, and gave us a strong lipsync performance...... it just felt right to crown Aurora. But alas...

I know we are all about being inclusive but at some point drag is an art and part of Creative Arts is CRAFT, a developed skillset that is specific to them. If you are not padding or corseting you better be showing a perfect glistening body covered with makeup like Naomi or Symone or Kylie. And there is never an excuse to not wear any make up and not have brows on.
It is perfectly OK for you to be a creative performer and not call yourself a drag artist and there should be a space for creative queer performers in queer spaces and entertainment. The issue is that Drag Race is so important in helping you to make a better life for yourself that people that maybe are not really doing drag (and may still be great performers, designers, make up artists) still have to present themselves and claim that type of art just so they can have a chance at the show.

I'm fine with a bit of production favoritism for their first AT queen and having a trans man make it to the finale. It's a tv show not the Olympics where such behavior would be unfair.

I’m sure i’d be a lot happier and honored to see a trans queen make it to the finale and win because they had amazing drag. Not because they were pushed because of factors outside of their drag.

I think it would be a good idea to include full-season track records like they have on the wiki at the end of these videos so we could visualize each queen's trajectory throughout the season. Like the scores at the end help but you'd never look at them and guess that Kiki had 3 wins and Venus had 0. They're pretty easy to make and I think it would help the videos a lot.
I feel like if the season is a lot longer, and with more comedy challenges, Venus could have had a much deserved win. Out of the top 4, she's the only remaining queen that did well in at least one comedy challenge. I can see her winning an acting challenge like the Daytona Wind, or even the Roast.
Yeah idk why Season 4 felt so short, like it only has one less queen than Season 3 but I was still surprised when Kiki went home and I realised it was already the Top 5.
Aurora winning the season makes sense for my fantasy. She is definitely Global All Star material. I can't to see her again
Venus as a winner feels very odd considering she only had one outstanding moment on the season on episode 1, and even then it didnt feel that justified, nobody else could get away with that entrance look

Besides Kylie Sonique Love, I think Venus has one of the worst winner storylines in history. The edit pushed her so much and the finale was basically unwatchable because of the forced moments with Venus and the edit overproducing everything she did in the finale. It was so obvious and while I think she is a great queen, I don't think her winning was very satisfying.
I think Kylie had a good storyline that the editors flipped honestly, she comes back after what a decade of not competing, totally changing her drag style and becoming the first openly transsexual winner of the US show? They could've done so much more w that.
I was pushing for Venus to win (knowing that GFE and Melinda wouldn't win obv) but they gave her nooooo story even tho killed the runway and the challenges. Glad she won but it would've been so much more satisfying if they gave her ANY story
AS6 is one of those seasons where producers really effed up with distributing the wins, for example kylie should not have won the acting challenge (the AHS one) but should've been awarded for that stellar snatch game, and TKB clearly won the rusical. but tbf, they had a choice between her (coming full circle from that convo she had with bianca on S6 about beyonce) and jan who the fans adored and proclaimed as robbed and that was a big moment as well. and still AS6 is regarded as one of the best seasons, so paradoxical i know
Kylie winning would've made more sense if the season had the AS2-4 format because she did do well in multiple challenges and she would've done well in the lip syncs. Hell, they could've favoured her more strategically with the current format, like giving her in a win in the ball and snatch game, challenges she was actually top 2 worthy in.
@@itsgabbybtch5587 I think the acting challenge win was like def storyline pushed which I'm ok with, like she's doing bad in rehearsals and exceeds expectations in the end. I like that kind of storytelling but I would've liked to see more of it throughout the season for her!
And frankly I just want the top two format back honestly, lip sync assassin thing was cute at first but I enjoy the wins being spread around.
@@itsgabbybtch5587 Imo an AS2-4 format would have radically changed AS6. Kylie would probably have three wins (Ball, Acting, Snatch Game) but Ra'jah might have as many as 4 (Variety and Girl Group)
By the way, I think Canada focuses more on transition rather than family resemblance for makeovers. Which is why they critiqued Aurora’s friend for looking kind of the same as before and Venus’ mom for having a bigger change. Still, I think Aurora should be high

YES. It was so unnecessary too - she could've won on her own and been a pretty beloved first winner without them forcing it on us from ep1 that she was the greatest queen who ever lived. All that did was turn the audience against her because it's so hard to root for someone being favoured that hard. At least with other powerhouse winners like Keiona it felt like every high placement was 100% deserved (and if anything Keiona should've had MORE wins)
@@xviolaa exactly! that final lip sync and like two wins out of that inflated track record was more than enough to crown her but I guess production didn’t trust her enough, I was rooting for Cristian at the beginning of the season but once I saw that production was pushing her so much I started questioning most of her wins

I also feel like we didn't get to know Venus very well. She did well in the challenges and all but there wasn't much personal struggle or growth or getting to know her. It was kind of an unfulfilling win for the audience...
I don't disagree with Venus winning; as a whole I think she was the strongest on the season but I also don't think she deserved her 1 win. Maybe on a longer season she's able to snatch a win and alongside her great track record it's enough to crown her. Or maybe she doesn't get any wins and she still wins the season like Elecktra from Italia.
She can actually win the Roast, but they did not do that this season for some reason.
Yeah Venus was the most consistent this season but I don’t think there was ever a week she was #1. The season probably needed a late comedy challenge.
I agree; from a television viewer perspective, Aurora had more interesting moments/ lip-syncs and could have won an extra challenge/ gotten high placement. Venus is a very nice lady, but the show was very obvious with who they wanted to win and I wasn't convinced it was a compelling enough argument with what we saw as viewers. I think production did good with the twist in the beginning, however once it went back to the original format, it was predictable and a bit boring.

I think the biggest problem with drag now is the drag race effect. I grew up in the dark and distant past, 80s, and where I grew up we had many different acceptable forms of drag, from end of the pier seaside drag, to compare drag, artistic drag and dark and twisted drag even plus sized drag queens, Divine. However that doesn't seem to be a thing now, it is you need to do "this"/look this way or you are doing it "wrong". After all Venus was asked about not tucking, which wouldn't even have been mentioned when I was growing up.
I mean there was even surprise at there being a straight drag queen in the first series of the UK drag race.Drag is an art form and so has nothing to do with orientation.

Also hadn’t heard the song but I don’t see why Derek thinks it’s a bad lip sync song, it’s a great finale lip sync song. The finale lip sync has never mattered anyway and we’ve got the gals in these massive gowns and elaborate outfits so you can’t do a boppy track or you’re just setting them up for failure. A ballad where the queens can just emote and do the most without having to do crazy acrobatics is the perfect way to end a season.

It's crazy that even in a universe where Kiki gets 3 wins, the most of any queen this season, she still has the worst track record of the top 4 because she was basically in the bottom any time she didn't win.

I totally agree. Love Venus no shade, she is gorgeous, funny and has a great personality so not mad but for exactly the same reasons you mentioned I think Aurora should have won. To me she surprised me the most and excelled in so many challenges and looks. Als great personality.

I honestly thought Venus was the worst in the makeover. The make up was bad, the concept was bad and the look was so unflattering. And Melinda and Neerah had the hardest canvas to work with and both of them at least had a shape. I can see Neerah in the bottom with her because she should have chosen a look to cover those arms.

Everyone comments on Denim’s sleeve gag and Drag Couenne did it first on Drag Race Belgium and wayyyy better. I’ve even heard people compare Dawn’s (regular drag race season 16) sleeve gag to Denim and I’m like again Drag Couenne did it so well. But again, so much drag race it’s hard to be innovative and always do new things but I just wanted to comment that. 😊

I think Venus did deserve the first episode win and was in the top, I don't necessarily think that that was rigory. But I agree I thought Aurora overall did better

I enjoyed Venus a lot during the season, but... there's no way she should've won the ball, plus I didn't get why they made her no-tucking schtick seem relevant when literally nobody would care or notice. I think she could've won the girlgroups challenge or even the snatch game, maybe this is a stretch but I think it would make her a better winner in terms of the competition itself. Anyway, I hope she has a wonderful reign.

Aurora would totally save TGE in this scenario. It would be her first bottom, whilst Kiki would be there the second time in a row. Aurora clearly didn't saved TGE because she was saved the week before.
I think having one more comedy challenge instead of a performance challenge would make SUCH a difference, especially for Venus who for sure would have won that
Aurora was so favored this season and people pretend it didn’t happened, she was really bad in the design challenge, then she didn’t received any bad critique on that wig on the rusical where you can see all her hair behind all the time and then in the makeover she did really bad too, a low or even bottom deserved, her sister dress was a mess behind. I’m glad Venus won, she was rigged too but overall she did better.
Aurora should have been in the bottom for the first design challenge, but it's a moot point.
For the rusical she ABSOLUTELY shouldn't have been in the bottom for a messy wig in the back bc the rusical isn't about how the queens look. She won bc she took the hardest part, the part that no one wanted but she wanted it bc it was outside of her comfort zone, and slayed. If anyone else took her part and slayed it like her they would have won, it's literally the winning role. The judges say they look for versatility every episode, they weren't looking for a good hairline.
In the second design challenge, her look was better than Venus' look imo, it wasn't perfect but Venus' looks had techincal faults too, the theme wasn't obvious and there was no drag family resemblence. Aurora's look was good AND it was literally giving drag family resemblence.
Absolutely no hate to Venus i'm happy she won this is just my opinion.
But like.....she wasn't. Her design was good, her wig wasn't bad in the rusical, and in the makeover she did good. Venus did worse, she didn't stand out, she did the bare minimum in the design challenge, the second worst overall in the makeover, and didn't deserver her first win.

It's funny that production pushed really hard for Venus/Denim when they were the most boring part of the season.
The breakthrough of this season was Melinda. It's been weeks and we are still talking about her whereas no one talks about Denim/Venus

Girl Venus showgirl look was honestly bs.. everybody is entitled to their opinion (that’s why I’m not gonna comment about the most basic outfit ever on drag race which was Venus’ entrance look) but that thing is just awful! The corset isn’t even remotely her size, it’s baggy (a corset being baggy is a crime) and it’s constantly falling off of her! And than the skirt is.. a piece of fabric.. and I like Venus, those looks were just shit

If I was the judge on Canadas Drag Race 4 I would’ve put Venus in the bottom for that makeover challenge, I didn’t like it at all. But that’s just my thoughts!
The fact of the season is that Venus was so favored since episode 1!
I have a feeling Aurora will return in a few years on a Canada vs. The World season and slay. If she has a few more years to develop even more, she'll be unstoppable.

Omg the shadeblocker QvShe skit is one of the funniest things to come out of drag race ever, IMO. Like iconically so bizarre, with an internally consistent theme. And just the kind of comedy you can't script. Like no they did NOT do the challenge, lmao, but they deserve some props for an inimitable performance. I would've preferred girlfriend going home for sisi to stay, bc shadeblockers were entertaining, but girlfriend's gaffe was a little cringe.
In my opinion, Aurora's musical win confused me. Thought it should have gone to Venus based on runway alone.
Episode 8 was a star is born, not really resemblance. I know where Denims mum walked out there was some confusion over if it was Denim or his mum, but she shined like a star in her own right even after Denim walked on stage. I think the problem with Aurora and her friend is they tried to be so similar and so her friend did not shine in her own light. I am talking about as I understood the challenge. As to me it was about putting the focus on the other person and working to make sure it was. In the same way the critiqued Neara due to her not using his other half's physic to take the chance to over exaggerate on the padding, as that was the perfect opportunity to do so. Instead it was a safe play and so looked more like a frat party.
Don't get me wrong that was one hell of a look but it still looked like her star paled compared to Aurora.

This season had me hooked right up until the very end, the finale really ruined what was a really great season for me. Really think this was Aurora’s time to win
I must say that even though Kiki Bodied the lip sync against denim i still think Denim was spared because of track record (as kiki had been saved by beaver and had lip synced the week prior) but this is my theory, but take as you please.
Venus shouldnt even be in top4, rigga morris girl, it is what it is.

Its just so weird how the producers decided to have Venus be a contender for the crown but not have more comedy challanges since she would have FOR SURE shined in those with this cast.
Imagine they didnt do a double elimination, Aimee survives but gets sent home in the makeover, top 5 Roast or Stand up, Melinda i think does good but i feel like Venus would have way more charisma with her jokes which finally makes her THE winner of the challange; then i could see her as a good winner for this specific season....but that didnt happen and leaves me stuck thinking Aurora should have won this season
But oh well as i said, that doesnt change that Venus is still a great charismatic winner
P.s now thinking about it why the heck did Canada go from having 9 competitive episodes + finale in S1, to now with 1 less episode? Lol
