    You did miss some IMPORTANT details in the 'Redead Statue' in the Earth Temple, and ones I think are worth mentioning because they shift the lore of the dungeon CONSIDERABLY.
    The statue is not, in fact, a Redead. Everyone assumes that because of the earrings matching, but that's the only shared detail. Look closer: it has an enlarged, beak-like nose. It has a gem decoration in its forehead. And it has long hair, pulled up into a topknot. Wasn't there a race in Ocarina of Time with those traits? One that is not visibly present in Wind Waker?
    It's not a redead. It's a GERUDO, grinning with greed, and you HAVE TO MAKE HER SEE THE LIGHT to pass. It's a reference to Nabooru!
    Which dungeon was it the Mirror Shield was in in OOT? Which featured tons of light-based puzzles featuring spinning sun emblems? The Spirit Temple. Which was built by the Gerudo. The Earth Temple is likely a rebuilt Spirit Temple, containing a votive of Nabooru's changed ways, and is likely very deeply connected to the Gerudo! As may be the Redeads... in a tragic manner.

      @Doran. Před rokem +83

      Oh wow! This is such an interesting take! The hair and nose on the statue really do scream Gerudo and perhaps Nabooru. Maybe the *crawling position* of the statue doesn't symbolize crawling out of a grave as much as *sneaking like a thief,* referring to Nabooru's attempt to sneak into the Spirit Temple for treasure in OOT, before she saw the holy light and became a sage as you mention.

    • @GuukanKitsune
      @GuukanKitsune Před rokem +59

      @Paige Malloy Not to mention that the cries of the Redeads in WW seem to match the pitch and timbre of the Gerudo Swordswomen's cries from OOT:
      When Ganon returned, he had no mercy for those who betrayed him. He made Redeads out of his rebellious former subjects. He made the followers of Nabooru into something that was wholly wretched but would never die.
      And I do not think it happened all that long ago, considering just how widely spread Redeads are across the Great Sea.
      At least, that's what I think.

    something the earth temple segment got me thinking about is the relation between the dead and the sun, the redead face becoming a sun and jalhalla being weak to sunlight. it's reminiscent of how in ocarina of time the sun's song was the only thing that could stun redeads and was learned in the kakariko graveyard's royal tomb, not far from the shadow temple.

    • @silvercandra4275
      @silvercandra4275 Před rokem +31

      *Tl;dr: Rapid and intense changes in environtment are often bad for fish, and probably the Zora as well*
      As a fishkeeper, I can tell you why.
      The Zora are obviously fish people, and yes live in water as much as on land, but the thing is that fish are very sensitive to changes in the water, and the Zora may be as well.
      The reason they might have had to flee to the peak of a volcano, and later evolved into the Rito, could have been that the sudden rise of the water might have changed it's conditions to no longer be good for them.
      In OoT, Zora's Domain was located in fresh water, and since the Great Sea is an ocean, and oceans are famously salt water, that by itself could already have been the issue (though we do see Zora living in the ocean in MM).
      But even if it isn't a salt water fresh water issue, a flood of that scale, would likely result in temperature changes, a whole bunch of debris being stirred up, levels of different elements in the water changing (nitrite levels, oxygen levels etc), and potentially intrusive species that could either pose as competition, or even prey on them.
      The water was probably no longer safe for them to stay in for prolonged periods of time, which is why they wound up spending more and more time on land, until they eventually evolved into the land dwelling Rito.

While some spirits can clearly pass on simply by fulfilling some spiritual purpose they couldn't fulfill in life (e.g, Laruto passing on her prayers to Medli), maybe others need to be reunited with a corporeal form to accomplish whatever business they were unable to finish in life.
    That would explain why the temple seems to venerate the redeads - it could act as a big beacon to any wandering spirits "hey, this is where you can get a body!"

A lot have entrances on the surface but how would it look entering from the bottom of the mountain. Like the room before fighting the boss of the Earth Temple, maybe there was a door at the bottom of the pit that would have led to the sunken Hyrule. That is just me though, obviously it wouldn't matter gameplay wise but story wise, I always wondered how these places would have function logically.

      I've also always wondered about the original temple entrances. It's possible they were always accessed by a big pilgrimage up very tall mountains, but it makes more sense for a door to exist in the depths.
      The other thing I noticed after playing it just recently is that there are a lot of established structures that form secret grottos on the islands. Like, you'll drop into a hole and the interior will be worked stone and the entrances are very tall shafts. That seems to imply that a lot of mountaintop towers were built, and the architecture matches the Tower of the Gods, linking all of these spires together. Maybe they were for beacons? At least one island is clearly the ruins of a collapsed tower, another is a series all in a line. And the structures are scattered around, too. Very interesting.

    I’ve always been creeped out by the Earth Temple dungeon, it was the first one where I felt truly terrified playing a Zelda game. I remember vividly screaming in fear when one of the Redeads shrieked at me, something that I’ve experienced multiple times during and even before entering the dungeon. Guess the creepy atmosphere and the Redead shrieks finally broke me.
    Strangely enough, the room with the ReDead statue, once lit up, felt like a safe place, away from the darkness and everything that lies within it. That damn statue, though, always served as a grim reminder that even though I felt safe, I was not welcomed in the dungeon. Only the dead belong there…

    Some footage has darker gamma than the rest of the video. Unless it was intentional, it is most likely a colorspace mismatch involving Rec. 709 and sRGB. Both cover the same amount of colors, so gamma is pretty much the only difference between the two. Footage tends to look look darker or brighter if you switch them up. Not sure how easy it is to deal with in Sony Vegas, which is what i recall you edit with.
    Correcting this error makes it better for viewers to look at footage that is already dark, like inside the dungeons. All CZcams videos display as Rec. 709 btw.

    Wait a minute, "red wrath" (Calamity?), The entrance to the temples being mentioned makes me wonder if we were supposed to travel Hyrule as well at one point, but looking at how Makar and Medali don't understand their temples outside of being a place to pray for the mastersword, what if the temples at one point served another function? I wonder what the ghost ship used to be and why the Gorons, who could reach higher than anyone to the mountaintops would abandon their home, and why the Rito seem to have two guardians, as Valoo could help the Rito but Jabuu could help the Gorons when they are out being merchants, perhaps that gossip fish carries information to merchants at what people may be interested in buying?

    This video's thumbnail immediately made me think of the gritty first person gritty zombie and monster shooting light gun series House of the Dead crossed with Wind Waker. Like Link's Crossbow Training with a horror twist and Wind Waker's distinct cartoony art style. Wind Waker has some freaky creatures that seem like cartoony versions of monsters you might see in that series, as it has much more than just zombies. Now I really want to see what the Magician, my favorite boss from the second game (I heard it is also the final boss of the first but I was never good enough to quite make it there in what little I played) would look like reimagined in Wind Waker style. After all, the Zelda series has no shortage of undead and horrifying monsters, some of which we saw more realistic depictions of on the N64 and were reimagined in Wind Waker. The Redeads were the scariest part of OoT for me, even worse than Dead Hand with that paralyzing scream, and I think in Wind Waker they are actually scarier in their design and animations. Thank goodness I was older by the time WW released and the game used them much more sparingly.
    If anyone knows of an artist that can draw things in Wind Waker style and does commissions, let me know.

      The Tower of the Gods has now been established retroactively as being a Zonai creation. Nintendo was very smart by designing the Zonai with an Aztec/Mayan aesthetic and making them a highly technological tribe who were worshipped as gods in ancient Hyrule. This means when the Hylians didn't get a reply from the goddesses via the Triforce then they turned to the Gods who have now been established as the Zonai.
      The Tower of the Gods also has a huge bell which is used to contact the gods, we see another bell used for this purpose at the Temple of Time in TotK. Its technically a retcon as I doubt Nintendo had the Zonai concept fleshed out fully way back then. But they've consistently associated the sky islands and ancient advanced technology with a race that predated the Kingdom of Hyrule and frequently used that Aztec aesthetic along with green or blue energy.

    for the earth temple theory, its also fair to say that the redeads statue could have been more of a memorial, or a reminder of the dead before they were entumed and mumified, and the stalfos could have simply been great warriors corupted by gannon's influence...
    though the botw sheika monks do serve as a good arguing point for the redeads being corrupted by cannon rather than resurrected.

    Can't remember where I read/heard it from but I'm pretty sure Stalfos was officially retconned into being mortals that died in magic rich areas in grief circumstances. For example, the hero of time eventually becomes a Stalfos in twilight princess but it was heavily hinted that it happened to him not just because he was lost in the forest but because he died with a deep regret of not passing on his skills. So having Stalfos in the earth temple isn't much of a reach with that change. To be honest I missed when they were just victims of the lost woods. Seeing Ganon's minions everywhere is one thing, but its still nice for certain areas to have their own natural predators/monsters.
    Also I've grown so used to Nintendo being half ass about connecting Zelda game lore since the jacked up "official" timeline that I barely noticed how smooth of an excuse you had for that writer at first. We all know when he wrote that zoras' domain became dragon roost island he had no idea what he was talking about and not that death mountain had become the new domain of the zoras. I'm sure they're out there somewhere, silently thanking you for making it look like they didn't fuck it up in the first place.

    Maybe the Earth temple was a sister location of the Shadow temple in OoT. A resting place/prison for the tortured individuals in that era. A place where the darkness is always present, but light can be let in unexpectedly at anytime from the various windows/ceiling shafts and mirrors. Maybe it was a place made with a holy pretext, but also a way to eternally torture the already deceased even after their initial death with all the light and holy energy associated with the temple.

    To be fair to the encyclopedia, Death Mountain has moved within the series. Or rather, the name has been applied to diffetent peaks. It's been suspected for a long time that the Hyrule in the games has been the island seen off the coast in Zelda 2 where you find the Grand Palace and the Tower of Darunia. This was confirmed by BotW and TotK which clearly shows the land separated from a larger continent with oceans along all other sides. This means that both the volcanic region on the continent and that on the island have both shared the title of Death Mountain. The continental region even has its own Spectacle Rock too.
    Further to this, what is now called the Eldin region is all volcanic and encircles Zora's Domain so it isn't impossible for the original Death Mountain to become inactive and another peak to erupt into what became known as Dragon Roost. The fact it didn't retain the name Death Mountain does suggest it is a different peak as well.
