I remember a story about a Russian base
that accidentally launched a nuclear warhead.
The missile had a pre-programmed destination
so all it took was one idiot
accidentally sitting on the big red launch button.
crisis was averted by the fact that
most of the rocket's fuel
had been repurposed prior to launch.
however the neclear warhead had still gone critical
and there was enough explosive left inside
to cause a big problem for wherever it fell short.
luckily a russian sniper was somehow able to
shoot through the detonator section of the rocket
while the missile was in freefall
thus making a minor nuclear fallout
rather than a multiple kilometer blast.
i think i can guess the color
of that poor sniper's pants
knowing that if he missed his shot
him and everyone and everything he loved
would have been vaporised in an instant.
"Little strap for your cash". If you then use that cash, there's nowhere to put the change except to have it jangling around in your pockets. It appears Ridge have ignored the one reason people have wallets in the first place. These things will be in "dumb ideas of the past" videos in the future.

Simon, *literally* *every* *single* *video* where you cut the intro short there are *several* *top* *comments* begging you not to and saying that we love the long intros. And I have *never* seen a top comment complaining about the intros.
On a different note, I never knew how close we came to 99 Red Balloons being historically accurate, nor that it happened so many times. Freaking yikes.
I recommend reading the book Command and Control by Eric Schlosser. The USA has almost nuked itself by accident on several occasions to the point it's both frightening and fascinating.
Pettition for Sam to obtain the script and put the cut portion of the intro on screen so people can pause and read it if they want to! That way we get to read the full intro without losing the sheer majesty and power of Simon telling the basement bois to fuck off with these long intros.
Petition for Sam to use voice cloning and Deepdale technology to make virtual Simon fill in the cut parts 😂

My current theory is that this channel kinda jumped the shark right around the time the name change happened from business blaze to brain blaze. All the inside jokes vanished shortly after, with the cutting of the intros removing the last shreds of the old style OGBB

The week crafted meandering introduction are definitely more entertaining than retreading Simon's grandpaesque stories about Greyhound busses and so forth.

Ow Factboi, there is sooooooo much more to this story than this script tells. We were that close to a full scale war on that one. In it self it's worth a 45 minutes episode.
We heard sub's engines when the crew tried to get it it loose. We lived about 15 km away and we didnt see dad for a few days since he was chief of security at the shipyard that builds many of the navys ships and it's located directly next to the naval yard. I'll never forget it. Phone rang and dad was gone in not even a minute.
Though "whiskey on the rocks" is a fitting title since the captain and most of the crew was drunk to boot when the swedish navy forced them to exit the sub.
I seem to remember reading that when the first Swedes showed up, the crew was just opening a hatch to look outside because they didn't think it possible they were grounded.
I've never heard the bear one, either. I feel like he would have ended up in the highest level of bear heaven for getting rid of us.
When my husband was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia (USA), there were frequent advisories that something was blocking the end of the runway closest to the swamp. The radar was picking up swarms of mosquitoes and interpreting them as a physical barrier. While even thousands of mosquitoes aren't enough to fid out a jet engine, the week of taking them apart and cleaning them, made this a "no fly" situation anyway. Allegedly.

I, who am not in the military, inadvertently ended up in a restricted area on the Air Force base in the city I live in & when I tell you the MP's (who previously were nowhere to be seen) materialized out of thin air, they did so in droves! They were locked & loaded & I was 💩 myself!

It actually says a lot about us as humans that while we almost ended the world a ton during the Cold war, we didn't. We had a lot of chances where people easily could have hit the button and blown us all the smithereens, but each time either common sense, luck, or some system in place manages to stop it. I think that's pretty cool
Wow Simon telling me about nuclear missiles and suddenly the emergency warning on my phone goes off together with the nationwide air raid alarms blaring… Its the routine testing, but damn if that didn’t startle me for a second… xD

Closest nuclear call was the 1979 false alert. Somehow a tape reel of training data had gotten mixed in with the recording tapes at NORAD. Instead of recording, this reel uploaded its data of a simulated nuclear attack to the main NORAD computers. Bombers were scrambled, Carter's Nightwatch plane left Andrews without him according to Carter's Directive 59 war plan. Brezinsky had the phone in his hand to call Carter to recommend a nuclear launch when the phone rang that NORAD had not been able to conform from remote bases that the attack was actually happening.
The false alert scene in War Games is based on this real error.

Simon, it was never about shooting down incoming missiles.
It was about assuring there was enough warning to get the jets were in the air to cause mutual destruction instead of being on the ground and being destroyed.

In October 1962 I was in Japan, so I missed most of this. My dad was stationed at Tachikawa Air Force Base outside of Tokyo at the time, and I don't know how worried the people at his base were during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Besides, I was only 4 years old, so even if I had heard I probably wouldn't remember it.
We need those introductions Simon, it's why they're there, to introduce us to the oncoming stories to prepare us for what is to come with some light-heardted brevity and satire... :P
