  • Even though Jamie already had an untouchable skate legacy and was closing in on 40 years old, he still waged an epic battle for his Cold War ender-a trick that is gnarly by any standard.

Hope I can be that guy at the skatepark who everyone is wondering if I am old enough for each layer of my skateboard to represent ten years of my life haha. seven layers on modern day ones, can't wait to see what the future of skating holds and I always want to be a part of it.

      I'm 35 and have been skating since I was 16. There were times I didn't have fun skating anymore because of injuries, stress and depression. I had to quit skating for 6 months because it wasn't fun for me anymore so that when I come back again, I might have a different feeling and get into it again. It took awhile to find it but it was worth it. I skate way better now in my mid 30s than in my late 20s. You just have to find that drive and always explore which ones will feel as good as when you started skating for the first time. You still have lots of time to skate dude. All you need to do is just go out there and just have fun. Even if you are sore, just go out and cruise around. The little things in skateboarding will always feel good as long as you have a positive mind.

    I'm 33 now. I've got more physical and mental ailments than I care to admit. I haven't been able to skate for the last few years as a result. I spent most of last night vomiting. I was literally almost dead of starvation (achalasia) this time last year. Almost all of my sk8 peers have all moved on to other things or places. I'm more likely to just crumble, rather than bounce nowadays. Still, I can't just stop something I did almost every day for nearly two decades.
    Fuck that. I'm going skating today. Thanks Chief.

    2:29 You can't overstate this concept enough. Age, as much as we all hate to admit it, is our master. Eventually, our bodies simply can't do what we want it to do anymore.
    I'm a month away from turning 40, and when I skate (as rarely as I do), I just grind small ledges, and a few flip tricks here and there. At a certain age, you fall once, and your body slowly, yet emphatically tells you, "Don't do whatever the hell that was again."

    This inspires me so much.. Jamie Thomas was one of my favorite skaters since Tony Hawk Pro Skater came out on playstation. I was always amazed at his video parts and didn't realize how much of an impact he has had on the skateboarding scene. Chris Cole is who he is partially because of Jamie Thomas. I skated from the age of 16-17 really intensly. Then I broke my independent truck and stopped skating.... I went through a lot and my focus was on breakdancing, gymnastics, and martial arts. I then went through a lot of family trauma and traumatic events that made me feel always depressed, really sad, and really alone. A lot of my friends were dying off and people close to me. I was in a bad car accident in 2013 making me think I couldn't do the activities I loved. because of my back being messed up and still to this day is, I couldn't do a lot of things anymore... Once my fiancé and her 2 year old son left me to go back to her ex...I was really lost and in such a dark place, people kept betraying and turning on me or decided substances meant more than people... I was at times feeling suicidal and constantly sad and feeling like nothing brought me joy... I watched motivation 2 with Chris Cole and that made me remember how much I loved skating and wanted to get back into it. its now 2016 and I skate 3-4 hours a dayand wherever I can. Even at almost 32, ive surpassed my expectations of what I could do and am way better than when I was younger. Skateboarding for me saved my life and its what is therapeutic for me. The feeling of riding down hills, landing tricks I couldn't before, and just having my mind be free from any issues im having.. Jamie Thomas was also one of my favorites because he embodies chasing a dream and not to give up and believe in what you can do. Thank you Jamie Thomas for being one of my heroes and inspiring me to try what I never thought I could do. Between practice and other skaters I looked up to (Rodney mullen, Chris Cole, Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, Caballero, Andrew Reynolds, Danny Way, Tas Pappas. so many more to list,) I got the fire relit for skating.

      @TheFutureIsPrimitive Před 9 lety

      PhaseSkater Rodney Mullen invented the Impossible and several other variations of it going all the way back to his early freestyle days. Rodney's Impossibles are second to none, not only because he is the inventor, but he also has maximized the potential for the Impossible. He lands the Impossible every single time without fail in every direction, even on every side of the board. Jamie Thomas has great Impossibles, because he was directly inspired by Rodney and uses some of his technique. Regards- from a freestyle skateboarder

    I live 15 minutes from where Rampage Skate park used to be in Buffalo Iowa, longest running indoor skate park in America for 16 years. I was young skating the place bought my first VHS skate video "Welcome to Hell" from there. Ever since then Jamie Thomas was my idol! I'd watch his part on that skate video every day go out and tear it up on my board right after with so much inspiration and motivation. Jamie you're a legend! I quit skating about 8 years ago, this video just pumped me up to skate again...definitely going to start and never stop this time. If I can afford a damn board that is ha! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation to skate once again Jamie!
