Retrofitting Cruise Control to my MK7 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost | *HOW TO*

  • In this video I’m retrofitting cruise control to my MK7 Fiesta in preparation for a big road trip. I’ve read a few posts online about the process and what is required to be able to retrofit this factory option so I would give it a go and show you guys how to do it.
    If you’re looking to do this for yourself then I hope you find this video useful - if you did, please give the video a like 👍🏻 and consider subscribing.
    To program the cruise control once fitted I used FORScan - here is the link to the FORScan website where you can download the software for yourself: forscan.org/home.html
    You’ll also need a USB to OBD2 adaptor - this is the one I purchased: Vgate vLinker FS OBD2 USB Adapter for FOR-Scan HS/MS-CAN Auto Switch amzn.eu/d/81yktVb
    The cruise control buttons and loom I bought secondhand from eBay.

    Another great video! Regarding the 9 vs 7 wires on the clockspring connector, the 'missing' two wires are used/required to connect through to a resistor ladder in the cruise control switch which allows the state of all five buttons to be determined (each button introduces a different value resistance into the circuit thus changing the voltage drop across the wires). These two wires are the black and green/brown wires in positions 9 and 8 respectively (far left as seen in your video at 3m14s). Incidentally, note that the cruise control switch has another pair of wires to it but they are just for illumination and they piggyback on the same illumination supply that is present for the audio control switch.

      Hello @mathewnewton3499,
      Do you know if you can still retro fit cruise control, if wires in positions 9 and 8 are missing?
      I assume that some wires/components need to be added/replaced.
      Do you know which are those components?

    Ok so i watched this video and then attempted to retro fit my 2009 fiesta which only had 7 wires with CC. I wired up pins 27 & 28 from the Instrument control panel to the two missing pins on the clockspring connector. Did everything shown in this video. For a while i couldnt get it to work and then I went for a run on the motorway and found i had to be over 60KPH for the CC to engage. I'd been testing at 25mph. If this is something people want i could do a video of this on my channel.

    I started with the programming before (when i made my test period on ForScan), because i didn't know when i get a fitting steering wheel cover - and there was an error, because the wire from the connector to the switch is missing ;-) - just for info.

    Great video. Used this after fitting steering wheel with cruise control to my c max. Had to do a couple of extra steps in Forscan though. As well as enabling cruise control I had to go into Engineering 1 mode and select Adjustable speed limiter then change it from without ASL to with ASL. Write this change the same as you did for cruise control. Then most importantly you need to go into DTC on Forscan and clear errors. (I had B112B steering wheel module error). After that cruise control worked fine.

My advice for the hardest part (taking out the air bag) is use a small flat head screwdriver to get the best access, also lie the other way round on the seat and look from underneath the wheel lol. I was at it for a good hour until i tried to brute force it, turns out it needs a fair bit of force don't be scared to break anything.

    Hey man,
    Very good video.
    Did you use the sound controls button from your old car and just connected it to the new wiring loom that you got? Becase I see the donor one is with the "M" button for the audio controls, which means it came from a car without voice connectivity etc and I saw here and there in different places and videos people saying that if you have a car with no voice connectivity you have to get a donor cruise control from a non voice connectivity car and respectively if you want to install cc on one with voice connectivity you have to get a cruise control from from a car with voice connectivity. Because the loom for the two buttons in either case is one piece, but now I see that you can just plug the different button. I'm guessing your voice control functions work as well as your cc now? Thanks!

    • @MendItModIt
      @MendItModIt  Před rokem +1

      Yeah I swapped them over from the original. But neither of the sound controls worked at first, I had to enable those with forscan too. Again their are different options depending on which set of audio controls you have but I assume it depends what version of the audio system you have as to which buttons you can install for audio

    • @aeobs
      @aeobs Před rokem

      @@MendItModIt That is very useful to know. My car is with the "M" button that comes with the most basic audio system, without bluetooth etc. My donor cc is combined with the "voice button". So if I just swap the buttons, my voice controls probably wont work. In the best case you just have to get the corresponding cc combination, but what you said about reprogramming the aduio control button as well as the cc one is very helpful.
      Kudos that you mentiond the 9 vs 7 wires thing as well, that will save a lot of time and effort for a lot of people.

      I then removed the horn itself from the car and tested it on the 12v battery using 2 leads as per the 2 videos below (2 different methods) and the horn didn't sound. Do you think this confirms that the horn itself is at fault?
      While the horn was off I cleaned all the connections to it etc.

    My horn is now, flat out. Only way to get it off is to disconnect all cables🤣

      Airbag isn’t aligned/seated properly, happened to me as well although mine was prone to just randomly going off in the middle of the night for a couple days and then we I drove the car it went off every time I turned left 😂😂 until I figured out it wasn’t seated right anyway 😂

    Those 2 wires are most Likely CAN bus wires, you definitly dont want to be adding those if you dont know what your doing

      I did think they were probably CAN wires, there doesn’t seem to be many wires in the loom for the steering wheel controls. Could peel the loom wrap back and see if they are twisted. I think most of the higher trim models likely come with them already but can’t be sure

      @@MendItModIt yeah, propably. But in my opinion, if your car cant accept cruise control from factory you propably shouldnt install it. Ive been a mechanic for long enough that ive seen a good few of those aftermarket kits fail.

      @@yourimeeuwisse711 that’s not what I did though dude, the wires in my car were there, in most cases they mean the car can accept cruise control 👍🏻 even so I’m plenty comfortable with CAN bus systems should the need ever arise 😁
