    Give it a year or 2.. KTM is going to come out with solenoid controllable valving, so they will be able to map the track (just like on the ECU) and be able to adjust the valving in the suspension based on acceleration, front/rear bias, braking pressures, wheel speed, RPM, gear ...... literally everything they can do with that ECU, they will be able to use to adjust valving and suspension on the fly. Now THAT will be a game changer..

      @@justinmachado6957 Yeah the street bikes have a thing called homolugation which is dependent on the engine settings and also vehicle dynamics as one has to be certified. So that you can change even a little thing is crazy effort and is cost wise probably not worth it. There was a time where that didn’t fall into that so one could basically change everything but this time is over.
      It needs for sure more time todo than a the street version simply because off-road basically is military+ standard. I guess first some sensors for measuring expansion and retraction.

    Seems like every few years the engineers decide they need a super stiff frame then it takes everyone a year or two to soften it back up. I think really rigid frames makes sense on paper (or CAD) where it should be the suspension job to create plushness and traction, but then they cheap out on the production suspension components when even the very top of the line works stuff isn't good enough to make up the differences. Flexible steel frames was the whole thing that made KTMs good but I guess the engineers just can't help themselves.

And I'm absolutely thrilled you like your KTM better...in fact maybe you should just sell the Yamaha and get another KTM. I've actually owned several Yamaha and KTMs through the years. While a lot of this stuff really just comes down to preference, there is a reason most reviews and riders prefer the Yamaha over the KTM these days. It actually makes me a sad, as the previous Chassis was much better. But since you are talking about 250s, Yamaha has absolutely dominated the 250 class for the last decade. This is mostly true but to say the bike makes no difference isn’t right. The average Joe might not be able to tell the difference between changes in frame stiffness but it does make a difference for pros who are chasing every millisecond they can during a race. Anything that makes the bike more predictable and comfortable is a big help. Just think about how much work goes into suspension setups for pros when most people just jump on and ride. The little changes add up

    Anybody ever wonder like supposedly KTM had bomb flex characteristics on their older models and maybe it was too flexy not sure but then they just change change change until they ruin it. Like would people really not buy a bike if it's not completely different every few years? Yamaha still has essentially 06 forks and almost 20 years later they're still the best. Thankfully they haven't done anything drastic in that department or their sales would totally tank I bet. What are your guys thoughts?

    • @microsoft790
      @microsoft790 Před 5 měsíci

      I thought we all knew that a few different manufacturers do the two steps forwards one step back approach every 2-3 years.
      Honda and KTM are super guilty of this. Updates all the time to fix what they messed up.
      I can’t remember who they are but there’s quite a few pros out there that said the 06-09 Crf450 had the best motor and frame combo and would take that bike over a modern one. Had more power back then too.

    • @halvorsonmx
      @halvorsonmx Před 5 měsíci +1

      ya it was 06-08 i was actually thinking about that. I have a 09 crf250 and I just sold my 07 450. I would take my 09 and FI that bad boy over a newer model I think I could say that with confidence. Except the kayaba forks on the 10+ models worked much better IMO. That was a great way to put it and you're totally right. Don't fix what isn't broken!@@microsoft790

    This is all really sad. Back in the 70s and 80s-balls, technique and talent won races. I remember watching John Britten tune his race bike at Daytona in 1992 and knew it was just a matter of time before all motorcycle racing became a matter of cubic dollars, even on an amateur level. While the new technology is certainly impressive from a development standpoint; it's really just depressing overall.

  • @olasod1

    KTM/GG/Husky are all good bikes with a huge BUT. They are the most expensive and until this year you needed to get the suspension rebuild BIG time. To pay €12500ish and after that add another €2500 is nothing more than a fraud against the users. For me its still a big ”HOW ON EARTH CAN THEY STILL SELL DIRTBIKES”? I really hope the 2024 models have taken more than one step on the ladder.
